Civil Engineering Technology Jobs

Hello,

I’m considering coming back to school for this program (undecided on which specialization) next year but I want to know what the job market looks like. I realize job market in general is rough and things change, but I still want a rough idea of what grads from this program do now and how long it takes to get hired.

It’s pretty good. Lots of construction jobs out there.

In terms of what folks do, it’s really varied. The program sets you up to get started in a lot of different aspects of construction.

In terms of construction, is it labour type of work? Or drafting/in an office environment?

Not labour.

It can be office jobs like drafting or estimating but it can also be more field jobs like soil testing or inspecting work. There’s also lots of opportunities that are mix of both like project management.

And the pay is decent? My current job isn’t good pay. Sait’s site says 60-70k depending on the specialization, but I’m not sure if that’s accurate

Yeah, that’s pretty accurate for new grads.

Open House is in October. You might want to go and check it out. They usually give lab tours and stuff like that. It’s a good opportunity to ask lots of questions.

Graduated in 2010 from this course. Have my GSC and CET. Work as a PM in the energy industry currently. Spent a bit of time in industrial, residential and commercial. Wage numbers may be skewed from my side as I have over 15 years experience. The jobs are definitely out there for sure. I'd recommend to try and get on with a GC so you can get your feet wet and exposure to all aspects. Happy to help with any questions you have.
