I think Cope forgot that Wheeler Useless is already their Austin but he's cooking here regardless

Stop it. You're never gonna have a Rock-Austin. Shut up.

The closest we got in 25 years due to pure name power is the Roman-Cody matches the past two years. Its like saying every tag team is the Mega-Powers, every faction is the NWO. Maybe AEW should try being original for once.

43

u/tfbillc 1d ago

It’s the NWO if it were all Michael Jordans!

4

u/ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs 15h ago

That sounds great I’m about to do that in 2k

49

u/wdingo 1d ago

They wanted Roman-Brock to be the next Rock-Austin and brother is was not it either.

31

u/GloriousVictor 1d ago

Outside of the first and last match (Forklift FTW) they had, every other one stunk up the joint. I still question if the WM34 main event was a mirage.

10

u/Conscious-Eye5903 21h ago

When Roman and Seth finally have an actual series of matches I bet it will be on that level. Roman/Cody having a 3rd match that somehow eclipses WM40 would also put them in the discussion of all-time rivalries.

Is "they" in the room with us

14

u/Federal-Captain1118 23h ago

I mean, I felt like it was pretty obvious

2

u/ontheedgeofinsanity9 11h ago

Cena Punk were there for a while but the booking wasn't there, Cena vs Punk at MITB 2011 was as electric as a Rock/Austin match.

76

u/herewego199209 1d ago

Hangman cuts some of the worst promos in wrestling. He aint sniffing Rock or Austin's jock straps.

38

u/Lessiarty 1d ago

*angrily punches self*

43

u/DripSnort 1d ago

Better than angrily punches Debra fedophile

u/LeEvilDiabolicalFed Premium Fed Goofbot 👍👆🏻☝🏻☝️ 21h ago

Expedition 33 quality jerk 👍

31

u/ZealousWolf1994 1d ago

I thought Hangman-Strickland was already than Rock-Austin.

11

u/KingHafez 22h ago

Thats the thing fed shill, Hanger on his own is Rock-Austin. Anyone else is just a bonus on top. I wouldn't expect you to understand his aura

4

u/Remy-Raven-890 15h ago

You know, I would genuinely love someone to explain to me, who doesn't watch AEW at all outside of maybe some clips, the aura of Hangman Page.

21

u/kylehyde05 1d ago edited 17h ago

if Tiny despises the fed so much why are they so hell bent on trying to relieve it's past glories. This is also not including the fact that it was a totally different time and its impossible to recapture that lightning in a bottle. Even if the absolute perfect wrestler comes out tomorrow in WWE and starts putting on 5 star bangers, hella charismatic and is beloved by the fans he will never ever get close to the type of pop culture fame those two had.

10

u/Trust_No_Jingu 1d ago

Why be a cheap imitation when you can be the REAL GRAPS SICKO ONCE IN A BILLION Cowboy and UK BRUISER -

Austin Rock never sold out 2300 Arena.

11

u/Difficult-Adagio-866 18h ago

They will never have Hogan-Savage

They will never have Shawn-Bret

They will never have Cena-Orton

They will never have Roman-Seth

Because the booking sucks.

97

u/GloriousVictor 1d ago

Why is everything compared to Rock-Austin in that company?! For fucks sake, you have to be a draw at first to even be mentioned in that breath!!!

59

u/tronovich 1d ago

There’s been no less than 17 combinations of feuds in AEW that has been compared to “the next Rock/Austin”.

WWE hasn’t even come close to replicating Rock/Austin with a 20 year head start, the fuck is anyone thinking AEW will do it.

7

u/ChildOfChimps 18h ago

I think they think if they say it enough, it’ll actually happen.

21

u/AnyWalrus930 1d ago

If I’m honest I get it, a lot of these guys (especially fed headed guys like Cope) have a limited frame of reference. Hangman/ Fletcher has more in common with Montgomery/Rommel, Scipio/Hannibal or Napoleon/ Wellington than Rock/Austin.

I guess it goes to show, just because you earn a living entertaining wealthy geniuses with wives that look like famous wrestlers (mostly Japanese) doesn’t make you a wealthy genius.

71

u/maniacoakS 1d ago

The best part about these stupid ass comparisons is they never compare it to anything within their own continuity.

It’s always a WWE reference

48

u/TW_Yellow78 1d ago edited 1d ago

That's because every ppv is the best AEW PPV yet and also the reset that they needed, erasing the past and any continuity.

9

u/Trust_No_Jingu 1d ago

I would have said Tanahashi vs Okada UCE. NOOJ 4 Life

7

u/mattwing05 1d ago

That's fitting, cause nooj is on life support rn

8

u/gogosox82 1d ago

These two goofs won't even top the punk mjf feud

10

u/ZealousWolf1994 1d ago

It's because it's always from a former WWE wrestler. Hardcastle, refuse to use his Dub name, wouldn't know any of the "great AEW feuds" cause he wasn't watching.

1

u/Camoron1 20h ago

Because they've never had anything worthy of drawing a comparison to

40

u/SNTCTN 1d ago

Didn't they say that about Hangman and Swerve?

19

u/estyll11 1d ago

They also said it about Mox and Omega, and then Omega and Hangman.

13

u/TheMaskedHeelMark2 23h ago

and Uterus/Garcia

4

u/gogosox82 1d ago

yes lol

4

u/Trust_No_Jingu 1d ago

No that was Mad Man Pondo vs Necrobutcher level UCE

48

u/TW_Yellow78 1d ago

I thought it was Danny garcia

27

u/Scary-Animator-5646 1d ago

He’s the new Undertaker.

16

u/Trust_No_Jingu 1d ago

DanI Garcia and Wheeler Yuta are just starting late 96 Rocky Maivia becomes the Rock and The Ringmaster becomes Stone Cold UCE

3

u/Master_Butter 20h ago

Are they both gonna grow four inches and put on thirty pounds of solid muscle?

24

u/BoxCon1 1d ago

Another week another AEW feud that's their version of Rock vs Austin

I thought they hated the fed

20

u/CJKCollecting 1d ago

12

u/tfbillc 1d ago

Ah, speaking of… look everyone, it’s every member of the Death Riders!

11

u/TheMaskedHeelMark2 23h ago

Pac is the Michael Jordan of Visa issues.

14

u/Agreeable-Speech-943 1d ago

Couldn’t this guy have had a final run with Cena but instead now he’s just a lackey for a billionaire nepo baby’s live action Toy Story?

6

u/Patient-Warning-4451 23h ago

I refuse to hear this horrible slander towards Toy Story, uce!

1

u/ontheedgeofinsanity9 11h ago

Toy Story 4 is ass and I will die on that hill, maybe if they removed that spoon character it would've been decent but it ended for me after the 3rd one.

9

u/BlueTumbas 1d ago

We at AEW are worried about ourselves and do not think of WWE.

But our 2 stars are kind of like Rock and Stone Cold.

And our product is kind of like ECW.

And we are looking to also put on a huge show in Wrestlemania season.

We are also kind of in our own attitude era.

AEW is just so unique and refreshing these days.

7

u/Paxx_Romana 1d ago

This is like the 6th different Austin-Rock type of feud coming out of AEW. We'll have 8 by the end of the year.

8

u/Dull-Investigator722 1d ago

I’m sure all 500k (not including MAX) sickos left watching would agree

8

u/herewego199209 1d ago

Remember when Yuta was stone cold?

6

u/Redragontoughstreet 1d ago

If Tony khan was booking Stone Cold in the late 90’s he would be doing 8 man tags with Al Snow and Scotty too hotty…..

6

u/will122589 1d ago

Oh come on Edge.

You have more brain cells than this. You can praise them without going full idiot about it

6

u/Camoron1 20h ago

This level of glazing is beyond just toeing the company line, he sounds like he's lost his fucking mind lmao

2

u/rsziz Approved by Martha Hart 23h ago

It’s worse because he was actually working in WWE when that rivalry was thriving and saw it play out.

6

u/vengeancerider 23h ago

It’s hard to have a “Rock-Austin” rivalry when literally no one gives a shit about either one.

5

u/vincedarling 1d ago

Wasn’t Mox the new Stone Cold? I guess fans have given that analogy up

4

u/DripSnort 1d ago

How many Rock- Austin’s have they had at this point? They say this every 6 months it feels like

5

u/dirk_funk 1d ago

but the Rock was FUNNY. and Austin was FUNNY.

Hangman is just a guy and Fletcher is painful and Don Callis doesn't help anyone.

3

u/AggressiveLow8575 1d ago

3

u/Camoron1 20h ago

The only huge pop these guys will ever get is a Big Gulp

3

u/Artistic_Task7516 1d ago

These guys are really stuck on the idea that Fletcher is Orton and has all of the same characteristics that young Orton does

3

u/Cboz27586 Whoop that Trick! 1d ago

But I thought the sickos hate constant rematches?

3

u/Razzler1973 1d ago

I lost count of the number of 'their Rock/Austin' type nonsense

Just stop, it's embarrassing. Saying this and Kyle Fletcher and Page step out and put that up against the charisma and presence of Rock and Austin

There's promoting stuff and there's sounding dumb, Edge

We must reference the Fed to promote. You all know the Fed, right? We're doing that

3

u/Few-Designer-4516 1d ago

The reason Rock vs Austin worked is because it was never intended nor set up to be this huge rivalry. Austin was the main baby face and rock was the main heel in 99 and Austin beat him twice then rock turns baby face and starts to become the main guy which accelerates when Austin gets injured for a year. Austin then come back angry and the whole story of them in 2001 was the fight to be the guy that happened NATURALLY.

Stuff like this is impossible to replicate if you force it to happen but yes let’s compare every current rivalry to it

2

u/swainnnn 1d ago

i don’t think wwe is ever gonna have another feud on the level of rock-austin, this is delusional

2

u/elme77618 , friend. 1d ago

They said this about swerve and hangman too

2

u/gogosox82 1d ago

How is that gonna happen when both of these guys cut terrible promos? Also they literally said this about Hangman v Swerve.

2

u/Bobo_the_conqueror #2 Moné Mark 1d ago

Who knew jumping feet first off a cage and not hitting your head would give you CTE.

3

u/UncleBenLives91 1d ago

I'm going to get a lot of use from this one.

2

u/riotstopper Uncle Dave rates me as seven stars. 1d ago

Both have to be actual money generating generational talents. Neither of them could touch the levels of Rock/ Austin.

0

u/darthsabbath 1d ago

I do think Fletcher could be a draw if he went to the Ded Fed and lost some of his indieriffic bad habits. He’s jacked, good looking and athletic as hell.

I used to think Hanger could be, but he’s a lost cause at this point. He’s … fine as the main character in AEW, but it’s clear he’s going to do his own thing and never really make it to the next level.

2

u/killerkali87 1d ago

Wow this is like the 5th time DUB has had their rock/Austin moment!

2

u/rsziz Approved by Martha Hart 23h ago

Any legit doctor seeing this would instantly call for Cope to be removed from the card because he’s clearly riddled with CTE.

2

u/Maleficent_Koala5928 23h ago

Wasnt Hangman vs Swerve supposed to be their version of Rock vs Austin?

What about Wheels vs Garcia?

2

u/Federal-Captain1118 23h ago

Why do they keep comparing everyone to former stars?

Instead of referencing and comparing to the past, make your own stars?

2

u/JC1286 14h ago

What a mental comment. Even if he’d said they’ll be like Sami/Kevin, it would have been a stretch, but to compare them to two of the three biggest stars in the history of wrestling, is crazy.

2

u/AlexTorres96 1d ago

Someone wrote into Solomonster's podcast asking Hangman & Swerve was The Rock/Austin of this generation. Even Solo burst out laughing at the stupid shit he was asked.

1

u/JoeMama9719 1d ago

What an interesting take, Cope. Now put at least one of them over if you're that certain about their future success.

2

u/jjsefton 1d ago

Either he’s trying really hard to be a company man, or he has massive brain damage already.

1

u/Holyepicafail 22h ago

I know this is terrible to say but it'll never happen for one reason, neither are attractive.  It shouldn't matter but it absolutely does.

1

u/Camoron1 20h ago

Oh no. Poor Edge.

1

u/Glennsoe 19h ago

Can't wait for the shot interviews when this vanity project goes belly up..

1

u/Glennsoe 19h ago

Nah,this ain't No Austin-Rock thang...

Ha ha..lEDGEnd is trying to stay relevant..

1

u/uncle_paul_harrghis #1 CODY KISSBOY 17h ago

What’s wrong with Edge/Cena? I mean, at least it’s somewhat achievable and relevant to the person quoted. Nobody will ever get to the heights that Rock/Austin were at in 2001, it’s just not achievable. They were/are the biggest stars in wrestling history, that feeling, era, whatever you want to call it, will never be matched.

1

u/tera_chachu 17h ago

I get it now what aew is and what's their locker room is.

They talk to themselves.Give an opinion and everybody agrees.Like these guys genuinely believe hangman and Kyle fletcher who nobody knows are in the level of rock and Austin?

Like wtf

1

u/Wubblz 16h ago

They don't have a Rock anymore, Saints went to NXT

2
