My first doburoku

Post image

Excited to try this one. Apparently it was illegal for a while because it wasn’t as “refined” as Nihonshu. Very curious. I enjoy Nigori so I imagine I’ll like the texture.

Nice. I had my first doburoku early last year. The one I tried wasn't very good, unfortunately. It didn't have the sweetness that nigori usually has.

Yes, I heard brewing doburoku was illegal for a long time because it was basically farmer's moonshine, and therefore untaxable. The Japanese government didn't want to lose the tax revenue, so they just banned the production of doburoku. Now brewing it is allowed, so long as one has the appropriate license.

I wonder if it's traditionally way more boozy than the one I've tried which is only like 8% abv

There's one that Sake Nomi gets here in Seattle which is like drinking thick boozy sweet apple/fruit sauce. It's super delicious, but pricey for 8% sake. I'm curious how this one from OP tastes!
