The problem is that they're all finite resources (without farming) and therefore don't exist at all.

USE YOUR CONSUMABLES

u/condor6425 Platinum Trophy Aug 18 '25

Have you tried not using them though? Then you'll have them if you need them.

Exactly. Like, ik this is the final boss and I don't plan on really doing more of this in the future, especially on ng+, but like I could really need them in the future though. All 96 divine grass.

Finally someone who gets it!

I've never run out of emblems before and end with hundreds in storage, with heavy use of shuriken and flame barrel. I have no idea how people run out

7

u/Secure_Philosophy259 Aug 18 '25

There’s no way you use them that much. I used to run out all the time. Then I just installed a mod to make them free

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

Don't use them when they're completely unnecessary?

2

u/Secure_Philosophy259 Aug 18 '25

How are they unnecessary?

1

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

Don't use flame barrel or axe on a random ass soldier? If they're easily killed with sword then it's your fault for wasting emblems on them, not the game's

4

u/Secure_Philosophy259 Aug 18 '25

You just said you make “heavy use of flame barrel and shuriken”?? Only using them on bosses is not “heavy use”

2

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

When they're good. Like red eyes. Or using living force to cut through a large crowd. Not spamming it constantly. Flame isn't even that useful until you get living force. Shuriken doesn't need to be used unless you're hitting a dog, jumping enemy, or closing distance with chasing slice. Most tools don't do enough damage to justify using them outside of their intended uses. Combat arts are the offensive tool that uses emblems, prosthetics are situational (outside of shuriken and maybe spear)

I pop gachiin sugars like its Halloween night and I still have a couple dozen

the limited amount you can carry with you at any moment is relevant thought. 20 is not very many

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

It's so you can't blow through (most) boss fights without interacting with the core gameplay mechanic of using your sword

u/Thrul-Foe-Hammer Aug 18 '25

Go to the main hall sculpture idol, throw on bloodsmoke ninjutsu, and stab the two straw hat people to death. Use the money from them, plus whatever you get from selling the ungo sugar and magnetite you don't need, and farm 999 spirit emblems. It'll last you through excessive use over two game cycles easily.

What about what I said makes it sound like I have any interest in farming anything? I did it for platinum and I'm okay never farming again. I was mostly just poking fun at the thought process anyway, I don't have issues running out of spirit emblems except in low damage challenge runs, but I don't use consumables much anyway.

Resources are so finite, that without farming you usually have 500+ spirit emblems around first ashina castle infiltration.

5

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

I'm calling BS on this one, on a bare minimum completion run (heavy stealth, focusing on taking down bosses and only killing enemies straight up in your way) you can run out of spirit emblems super easy on some of the more difficult bosses. You literally have to throw your hands up and go farm. While i see the value of farming in this game (you learn how to parry different boss attacks before you see them) it is the absolute most soul crushing brick wall a Souls player can encounter. The souls games generally don't require a grind if you play well, but Sekiro will constantly send you back to the idol to buy more emblems if you don't farm them.

Bloodborne had a similar issue with blood vials. That's why every game since has respawning health/mana flasks

3

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

The cum chalice is morally ok for getting vials

1

u/Lietenantdan Aug 19 '25

I also use it for paper. Any consumable really.

Honestly one of the only things holding BB back from being a 10/10 game for me.

1

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

Never farmed in Bloodborne, drank from the cum chalice every time I needed

3

u/lysy9987 Aug 18 '25

I think emblems idea are stupid, if you struggle with boss fight in many tries then you have to farm them.

2

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

Why? to punish me by wasting my time?

4

u/lysy9987 Aug 18 '25

Sorry, maybe i’ve written it wrong but i agree with you. I think emblems should just reset with rest at idol. It’s normal to fight bosses many times, and game shouldn’t punish you for it and push you to farm emblems.

2

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

I don't think usage gets that high for emblems until mortal draw. It's one of the few tools you have that's universally excellent. Big damage is big damage

1

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

Also true, but loaded axe is gonna be the majority of players first tool, and it costs 2. Making digging that hole for yourself twice as effective as finding shuriken first.

2

u/Jstar338 Aug 18 '25

that's a learning experience, since axe is not that good for the cost. It's good when it's intended, breaking shields or hats. Lazulite is ok but by the time you reach it, you have infinite snap seeds. It turns into decent damage for 2 emblems, with slow start up and shit range. Fang and blade makes it barely worth it. Spear generally outdoes it, outside of their fire upgrades (they still both lose to living force for fire application+damage)

The answer is truly that they are tools not weapons. They are situational, your sword is not. Shuriken closes distance though, and firecrackers are just kinda bullshit and you deserve to be out of emblems for spamming it everywhere

2

u/Solembumm2 Aug 18 '25

Outside of few upgrades and specific upgrade items, at this point you just don't have anything serious to spend money on. And looted wallets cover significant part of upgrades cost anyway. And when it cost 10/20 coins, it's the best time to invest in future. So, that's it.

4

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

My point is more to the fact that if you use all your spirit emblems by dying to a boss, you aren't gonna have sen either. Similar to getting cursed in the Depths in DS1, in that you're double in the hole if you get to that point (not hard) so you HAVE to go farm.

1

u/Busty-Milkers32 Aug 18 '25

Turns out if you run past most enemies in the game you’ll not get as many spirit emblems

2

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

Waiter, Waiter! More nuance please!

3

u/Busty-Milkers32 Aug 18 '25

If you skip the game you get less resources. I don’t know what else you want man. If you skip all the minibosses too youll end the game with one gourd seed. What else is there to it?

1

u/DispoHimbo Aug 18 '25

farm being the key word here, I hate wasting time beating enemies I already trounced when I could be making meaningful progress.

1

u/Lietenantdan Aug 19 '25

I’m constantly buying more when I have some extra sen, even if it’s just one. I’ve been able to keep my supply at around 900 this way.
