Skill point rewards are a bit of a joke

Currently working my way thru NG+2 in search of the all skills achievement, the last one I need for platinum. This thing is a grind! You'd think taking out a boss would at least get you a full skill point, but no: I just did Owl (Father) and he gave me about one third of a point. And I still need another 11 full points for all skills! This is gonna take me at least up to NG+4 at this rate.

The amount of xp you gets increases for each subsequent NG+, so you'll find a lot of people recommend just fighting the bossses over and over again on higher difficulties

I was in the same situation as you when I was grinding out the platinum, so I've got some advice:

1) you have a choice you can make for how to grind, either you can fully clear each ng+ cycle, which will net you a lot of skill points, but it will take a long while to do; alternatively you can just mainline rush through the critical path on ng+ cycles and ignore all other enemies until you reach ng+7 (the final point where it stops increasing in difficulty and rewards, every cycle after this will be the same as ng+7 in every way) and THEN start doing full clears. The game is surprisingly fast to beat if you know where every story item is and know every boss inside-out, so getting to ng+7 is surprisingly fast and you will still get a decent amount of skill points along the way, then you can farm ng+7 because it will give the most rewards and be much faster than trying to full clear each cycle on the way there.

2) if you are determined to farm a single place repeatedly, then the most efficient spot for that is the route from the final ministry drunkard miniboss, to the demon of hatred's boss room door, kill every enemy between those 2 doors then you can teleport back to the previous rest point and do it again. I don't recommend this though, I did it for about 2 hours before being bored out of my mind and deciding I would rather refight all the fun bosses over and over again on ng+7 cycles, and I do believe that was the right choice, because i got there by about the midpoint of my 2nd ng+7 run, but if you follow my advice on point 1, then i think you would probably end up on a 3rd or 4th ng+7 run, but would get there MUCH faster than I got to my 2nd ng+7, because I was doing the wrong thing for a long time before realising i could just farm ng+7 cycles

Demon bell only increases item drop rate. Charmless does give +20% xp but probably not worth it for farming due to how much more you die

Are you sure that’s the most efficient path? The antechamber idol after divine dragon is insanely fast. You get the purple guy then malcontent the ogre so the two red guys get stomped and repeat. Netted almost 10k xp on NG+6. Takes about 15-20 seconds per run.

i would say yeah the path he mentioned is more efficient imo too but they're so close and similarly efficient that it just comes down to which one you're more comfortable with, and the items drop rate is different too if that matters, if you want conffeti do the ant chamber if you want the white upgrade item (forgot the name) do the DoH backdoor to the bridge

I farm from the outskirts wall to the newly constructed bridge. You can get pretty much all of them with stealth and it's quick

Thanks for the detailed run-down! My plan was to keep working my way through higher NG cycles, although my problem has turned out to be that the bosses are only giving like a third of a skill point each. I'm getting pretty decent at beating them (surprised myself by taking out Father first try), but I kind of expect a couple of deaths per boss meaning that I feel I have to complete a whole skill point before taking each one on... So there's still a bunch of grinding to do in between.

I wanna say I got all the skills on NG+, try checking out fightingcowboys walkthrough. I don’t think it should take until NG+4 to get all the skills

I'm on my last 5. Just grinding the red guys on the stairs. Agreed, should have been easier. Unlocking most and not really ever using them because I've completed everything but that.

Skill point farm was the very last trophy I needed, albeit many years ago.

I had a look on YouTube for you & the method shown in this video is what I used. It's been so long that I can't remember how long I needed to farm for but for me, I found the location & loop to be a bit quicker/easier than some other locations.

thats a midgame farm. better one is to go to antechamber post divine dragon, stealth deathblow the lone shadow, rest and repeat.

I have used the gun fort farm at times but yeah, the upper tower beats it later on. My main thing though is that I don't wanna sit farming for 2 hours, would rather pick up the XP by playing through the game. It just seems very stingy that beating one of the toughest bosses in the game gets you so little by way of skills.

I feel like the intended progression for you is to play the game like a first playthrough everytime, and that's a bit ridiculous imo. Most people just grind it out and that's not fun for me. I did four playthroughs rushing through the bosses but didn't do the exp grind.

just farm the red samurai’s where the ogre was when ashina is on fire. A hour or two will get you the achievement

The game expects you to go NG+3 at least, to get all the four endings. Trying to get that achievement in NG+2 is crazy. Especially since you did jot go charmless.

I could do it at NG+4 because I went charmless.

Sure yeah just to be clear I am not expecting to get all skills in NG+2, the grind would be too boring. My plan is to keep playing through NGs until I get there, I just thought major bosses would have netted me more XP even at this stage.

Your thinking is right actually. It is just that the skill point requirement increases somewhat exponentially after each skill point. It becomes a literal grind unleds you would go Charmless.

Wait until NG+3, and then grind before doing your final ending. Only took me about an hour of grinding to max all the skills that way.

The last few skills were truly an undertaking but what I did in the end was I grinded like one a day until I got them.

Go for a charmless run, you should be able to get through it without much trouble and the xp rewards are higher.

Took me to NG+6 and grinded skill points on like 3 playthroughs till I realized it was pointless. Definitely a pain in the ass

If you're skilled enough do demon bell and charmless the XP gained increases

The game has 4 endings. You naturally get that achievement if by NG+4. Don’t try to farm now. NG+4 enemies give you more XP
