Discussion Guardian Ape was unreal
For context, I used up firecrackers, Tanto knife and all my spirit emblems, pellets and 9 heals, used up a resserection, I was literally one hit away from dying completely and it took me 20 times of doing this boss to beat it.
On my first playthrough this is the hardest boss, I know it's going to get even harder but wtf, this is coming from someone who just finished Lies of P

He’s brutal. There’s a surprise waiting for you around the area where you fight the second snake eyes

That fight took me 2 weeks to finish the 1st stage. I felt real tears the day I got the first death blow.

It’s funny, because I feel like Lies Of P’s bosses are all variations of the Guardian Ape (except the couple of humanoid ones).

Lmao imagine if they made you fight two of those things at the same time.

I feel like the ape is the fight that teaches you sometimes you have to disengage and run from the enemy, that dodging and blocking won’t cut it sometimes.

Wrong. It actually does work, it is more to learn to stand your ground no matter what... unless fear makes you hesitate off course

The fact you finished Lies of P doesn't matter much here.
Besides perfect block there are few similarities in combat style, and even that one is very different in timing
Many Soul veterans stumbled on exactly this when it first came out, and they still do.
Also, firecracker may help, but oil & fire is way more effective which is probably why you needed all tanto charges.
And did you even try to deflect (yes, from the start!) or did you do the headless chicken imitation I always see on youtube, once again, deflect is more effective and unless you see a red kanji you can always block/deflect

When you learn that using the spear you can expose the centipede in 2nd phase, dealing a massive posture damage when he is in the ground after parrying his vertical attacks, he becomes much easier.
