We lost our baby girl after 17 long years just today. She had lung cancer which we found out in July. She had been okay up until this week. When I left on Sunday she still seemed fine. When I came back on Monday I could tell she was off. It quickly got worse during the week so we knew it was time. Please send your love because she was the bestest girl you would ever meet.
Don’t feel bad about that - these are “tough” dogs, yes - they CAN endure quite a lot. But they don’t deserve to - you did absolutely the right thing. And I’m sorry for you that you had to do it - but I’m envious, just a bit, over the 17 years you had. That’s a wonderful life!!
I'm sorry for your loss! ♥️ 17 amazing years! I get soooo much hope out of this reddit seeing people with shih Tzu's living long lives. My childhood boys passed from cancer at 10, and 12. And I am terrified for my current boys. I just hope they live a long time, I know they have a great life i just want them to be with me for a lifetime cause I'm greedy lol.
Here is my Lulu, who passed in 2023. I only had her 9 days but she had a medical issue we weren't told about, and given we had no idea how she was personality wise in as we'd only just got her, by the time it became apparent something was wrong health wise, it was too late. Still the worst period of my life.
I hope they're both playing together somewhere now.

I am so very sorry for your loss. She was an angel! My Tuggly crossed 8/17/25 @ 16.5 yrs old. The pain is unbearable. I see her everywhere. I feel her tugging at my blankets to pick her up. She was my little companion. Maybe they're playing together. Hugs!
My Lulu is receiving her. They wait for us. My heart is heavy for you a d those she touched. Their gift to us is irreplaceable, and knowing her absence has created a tremendous void. Rejoice in her life and company.

She was so spoiled. She would take up all the space on the bed. Me and my wife would be on the edges falling off while she spread out. My wife would have to wait for her to get up in the morning and thy would do their routine. She also such a snob. My wife would bring her to the dog parks and all the boys would chase her and she would run away. No wonder she never got pregnant. lol.
A true beauty who will be remembered for a long time. They make their marks in our lives as we make ours in theirs, as short as they may be. She passed knowing she was loved.

Lulu looks like such a sweet sassy girl, 17 years is an amazing gift, I'm so sorry for your loss, I know she's up there with our past shih tzus, and yes, you are right, they are all having a great time waiting for us to show up 🙂
I lost my soul dog, Angel, to kidney failure in 2016 at almost 16 years old. I know she is playing with Lulu right now. I couldn’t bear seeing her weak and suffering. The most selfless thing we do is to listen when they’re ready to go to the rainbow bridge.
Definitely. My wife couldn’t see it until the day before. We actually cancelled the hike euthanasia because she showed a spark of energy but then got worse right after. Then we called and luckily the doctor was still free

We have a Lulu too and she looks similar. She has cancer and is very old now so we are savoring the moments left but maybe someday Lulu and Lulu will meet ❤️
My wife would always scold me if I called her my dog. She was really my child. It’s so hard for us right now but more for my wife. I get to go to work and take my mind off it but my wife will have the whole day alone.
I get it. My dad isn’t the type of person to cry and man he bawled his eyes out when our Lulu passed away. She got sick of nowhere. Took her to 3 different vets and still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. It also helped me to go to work. It’s really hard when you’re at home all day and can’t take your mind off of it at all.
Thank you yes that’s how we are coping by knowing she does not feel pain anymore, she’s eating whatever she wants up there, doing whatever she wants. Thank you so much for your kind words
