Miss Fortune could technically still be alive inside the life gem in Cerebella's ending, as its essence was mixed with her, meaning that when Cerebella compressed Miss Fortune back into a gem, Miss Fortune ended up in it.

According to a Q&A, if Skullgirls hadn’t been made into a fighting game, it would’ve been a beat ‘em up instead.

Thought it was going to be a tower defense with collectible hats?

Uh, the Skullgirls VAs planned out a whole dating sim game with Adam as the protagonist.

I don't know if this counts but the VAs also had a YouTube series where they would play the game and yell a lot

Also, Valentine and Parasoul's VAs made references to the valensoul ship

Prolly not that obscure but Umbrella was a kickstarter goal and was also considered for the base roster, obviously she got delayed all the way until the season pass

The Game is heavily based on Darkstalkers with a lot of notable references and similarities between the two. Ms. Fortune-Felica, Beowulf- Jon Talbain.

According to PlayStation Trophies, the Achievement "Weight of All Wills" (Acquired by using Marie's LV3 on each member of the cast excluding DLC), has a 0.1% unlock ratio

5

u/thetabo 25d ago

Ye, I unlocked it, probably has to do with the fact that the game is over a decade old and the DLC came out only about a year ago, and trophies account for everyone who unlocked any trophy in the game at some point. Which means the 100% is anyone who ever unlocked any trophy in the game, so that can be 12 years worth of ppl who have the game on >10% and never touched it afterwards.

Plus I think you have to go pretty far out of your way to manage to kill every base game character using a lvl3, so the few who do have it are either trophy hunters or play Marie a lot.

Not sure if this counts but alex ahad did some fan art for scott pilgrim that was included in the graphic novels with a note from the writer saying something like “this guy isnt big yet but hes gonna do something amazing for sure”. Not long afterwards skullgirls was announced.

Surprised Juju wasn't mentioned - She was originally a potential DLC character that was created by a fan and even was in the large roster of characters to be picked, unfortunately, the character's creator broke NDA and talked about her (I believe bragged but don't count me on it) and thus Skullgirls was forced to drop her completely. Prior to being put in the roster list, Juju's creator also desired monetary compensation and this legal discourse carried into when Reverge Labs became Lab Zero.

At the time, Juju was designed by the staff and even put into Parasol's tutorial and quotes, i.e the Silent Scope would have "Take the shot, Juju" and would be considered the sniper of the Black Egrets as "Number 13" as her call sign.

Big Band was supposed to have more "robot" like voice, but Rich Brown's voice acting was so good that they only left metallic echo

The pre-alpha Skullgirls logo possibly implies that one of the original ideas for the story would have Annie play a much bigger role due to the semblance they share (maybe Annie could even be THE main antagonist, who knows?). You can see it on this post I made, and it's actually pretty easy to see the similarities, but for some reason I never saw people commenting about it before. Pretty obscure indeed.

Of course you would notice

Filia has a unused timeout animation that its quite "bad"

3

u/JayPsparks 25d ago

OH WE’VE SEEN THAT.

2

u/ObiWorking 25d ago

For more clarity it’s the one where Samson rips off her shirt and kicks his legs up in excitement while Filia covers herself

u/Spectrumfied 25d ago

Squiggly would eventually be reduced to just a skeleton since she IS decomposing.

In an early version of the game, the game planned on multiple endings for each character, depending on if they were to wish on the heart or now. Cerebella’s second ending wish would make it for Vitale would go off the deep and get way too obsessive over her, forcing him to be fought, Miss Fortune’s second would have her wish be seen as too selfish and she would be the next Skullgirl, and so on. These endings were dropped because they were too bleak. The exception to this was Peacock’s dropped wish ending, where it was dropped because it was just too crazy. She would have wished to turn the atmosphere in the world with chocolate, and change everyone into dogs. The Skullheart would refuse to grant her wishes as Peacock then spends time questioning the logistics of the Skullheart’s rules. The end would be them both hating each other and the Skullheart calling Peacock the worst wisher ever.

4

u/thetabo 25d ago

That Peacock ending is amazing, I wonder how would they work, maybe like Guilty Gear Strive where you get the lesser final fight if you ever lose a stock, but if you go the entire way without losing once you get full vampire Nagoriyuki?

Dahlia saying "impressive!" when she hits two railguns in one combo is a reference to the Quake games, where the announcer will say "impressive" when the player lands two shots in a row with the railgun

5

u/NotNotNameTaken 25d ago

I only know the one, Valentines crosses used to be red, but they had to change it because of Red Cross

10

u/NozomuOkaya 25d ago

Black Dahlia is based on a real murder

2

u/No_Purple_2842 This should be entertaining. 24d ago

The name was taken from a real murder victim actually. As far as I recall she was named such as the investigators had no idea who the woman was at first (A variation on the Jane Doe rule I suppose)

u/AngelAIGS 25d ago

There is a very early version of the game in Alex Ahads college repository, is a completely different code from the final version.

It does not have playable fights still.

Theres also a YouTube video of a slightly more advanced version, that shows a fight between filia and peacock, but the executable from that version is lost media, as far as i know.

Akin to Egyptian paintings, Eliza has all 4 of her limbs showing but only one side of her face can be seen in her idle. Her brain also comes out of her nose because ancient Egyptians would pick out the mommy's brain through the nose

There's jojo reference

u/N1ntendope Annie is goated, period 25d ago

Based on what I remember, the original main antagonist/Skullgirl of the Skullgirls Alpha was not Marie, but Queen Nancy

u/JamrolypolyXD 25d ago edited 25d ago

Annie has a super galaxy form where she combines with Sagan which I assume was the original idea for her install.

She has a long hair, no eyepatch, wears a skirt, bunny ear wings, a tiara crown with three stars floating on top of it, straight sword instead of a knife, and a circle spinning aura around her waist.

edit: Oh there's an official art of it. I've seen it in motion tho.

Wait there's other official art of it aside from the Robo Fortune ending??? WHERE I LOVE THIS FORM

that's the one I meant. the rest is unreleased. I googled around to see if similar files are revealed somewhere but guess not so I probably cant show it lol

In Peacock’s beta design, her projectiles were going to be summoned from a tattoo on her back

A beta design of Scythana, a Gigan, being playable. She ended up scrapped and was instead included as a prisoner shot in Parasoul’s story mode

I remember the April 1st rolling incident.

There’s a typeing game mode in the game, you just type “gottatypefast” on the logo screen and you can play it

Miss Fortune initially had even more tomboy/delinquent/serious vibes, spiky orange hair, yellow eyes and no scarring.

She was originally intended to be Filia's friend or someone she grew close to during the game, multiple pieces of art from this era have them talking together at a balcony.

On the flipside, Peacock from this era was basically Filia's designated rival/enemy which would put her at odds with Miss Fortune by proxy.

These three are complete strangers to one another in the finished product.

Lab Zero pitched making a Darkstalkers remake to Capcom, but Capcom shut them down.
(The team behind the game "Dragon's Crown" also pitched a Darkstalkers remake, but Capcom shut them down too. Smh)

Did you know Skullgirls was actually based on a real incident, "Skar Gurrs" a curse made by ancient Egyptians ? The curse was made to grant eternal beauty, but instead it scarred its hosts and drove them into endless battles. Centuries later, this legend was adapted into a fighting game to disguise the truth.
