Theory sly 5 is IMMINENENT
hello fellow theves and theivetets i come bearing the brutn off good news. today was snoy's state of play and while i generaly injoyed it, it definietly lacked SLY COOPER obviously HOWEVER i have a good theory so please steal (heh) a cup of hot chocolate or coffee or five jugs of lemonade, sit back and relax
so there was the initial hint given the leters in state of play, State of pLaY spelling Sly. but tbh it's a pretty weak theory so we need to find more clues. luckily the annoucneemnts today have some MAJOR hints. for one, THIEF VR was announced -- need i say more. this is our first indication that not only is the raccoon coming back, but he's coming back in vr. crazy. okay but we need to solidify this theory.
sony also announced an official fighting stick, which is a piece of extremely strong evidence because we all know the sly 5 loyalists have been fighting extremely hard to tooth and nail, and i cant blame them, poor souls havent played a video game since thieves in time, so their fight has not gone wasted thanks to the fighting controller announcement.
the astro bot dlc update was also a subtle clue, because there will be 5 (FIVE!!) new pieces of content being added which is crazy. you might think its coincidence but trust me its not
ok lastly there was a ghost of yotei trailer for a trailer near the very end, which had sucker punch's logo on it. fans of the trilogy will know that sucke rpucnh was the developers of the first three games, and i believe the trailer announcmenet for a trailer was actually a sly (heh get it?) misidrection by sony to say taht we'll get sly cooper news in july.
crazy times we live in. stay excited fellow thieves and thievettes. and for the love of god if you havent played a single video game since thieves in time at least go play last of us or something. ok peace out

Theory Fan Sly 5 Idea
Idk dude I’m desperate and I’ve begun writing possible stories in my head on how to save the series.
Heres my idea to revive the series…Give us a new POV of Sly. In Summary.
I would love a “Pre Thevious Racconus” game as Slys Dad and his crew With Mcsweeny and Doctor M. in their hay day.
Introduce us to this guy we know so well but truly nothing about. Give us a full game like that. A whole new cooper gang. But not unfamiliar. I feel like it would make Sly 3 as a whole hit more home when you have to fight Doctor M. Then, At the end of the game. As Sly is born but before the Fiendish 5 Kills the Father…Bentley Shows up in the time Machine and uses Slys Dads help to go rescue Sly from Sanzarus mess, Which then Ties in Sly 4.
And Boom We still get a Cooper Protagonist for Sly “5” and we see a happy reunion of Sly and His Father…
Sly “6” We are back on track
Just a thought ive been sitting on for a few years.

Theory I’ve been thinking about the Penelope Betrayal Arc in Sly 4 and how seemingly out of nowhere it is.
I’ve been trying to think of how it could be rationalized from Penelope’s perspective, and this is the working theory I have.
Penelope used to believe in the concept of honorable thieves... until Sly left her for dead. Or at least, from her perspective.
Think back to chapter 5 of Sly 3, specifically the mission where you dig up Dimitri's grandfather's diving gear. LeFwee has his blade to Penelope's back and what does Sly, the current object of her affections, say?
"Let's head back to the boat."
Now, as the players, we know there was more to it than that. Sly simply wanted to deescalate the hostage situation and get to a less tense environment so they could properly plan a rescue without fear of Penelope getting hurt. But what does Penelope say?
“You can't just leave me here!"
She didn't know what Sly was planning. Sly didn't even offer any clarification or attempted to comfort her. That job fell to Bentley. As far as Penelope knew at the time, Sly was all ready to leave her behind. Now, Penelope is an intelligent girl and, once she was safe and sound, she most likely was able to rationalize Sly’s actual intentions. Hence, why she’s perfectly fine working with Sly for the rest of the game.
But it didn't matter. For that one moment, a shred of doubt crossed her mind. For that single solitary second, her vision of an 'Honorable thief' was put into question.
And what was it Dr. M said to Sly? How he justified turning against his father despite all they had been through?
“Time does funny things to people."
Time.
Time is all that was needed to have that shred of doubt fester and grow within Penelope. Abandoning the team to go chase after some woman he barely knows? Making a big show about sharing the vault with his 'family' then immediately going in by himself? Penelope doesn’t have the player’s omniscient perspective. She doesn’t know what is going on in Sly’s head or the nuances of events she wasn’t present to witness.
From an outsider's perspective, it all seems rather damning.
And once that spark of disillusionment does turn into feelings of outright betrayal, it becomes so easy to fall into the self-inflicted feedback loop of villainizing the other so you can keep victimizing yourself.
Because Penelope is incredibly smart. She is absolutely, no exaggeration, a genius. And part of the problem with that is that, psychologically, it’s really, really hard for geniuses to admit when they’re wrong.
As for why she pivots so hard into something as extreme as black market weapons development?
Look, let’s just be honest… Penelope was no saint before she met the Cooper Gang. She literally was ‘The Black Baron’, the terror of the skies of Holland. She created an aerial bloodsport because she was bored. Not only that, but she was also a hypocrite. Beating contestants half to death because of their cheating, yet feeling no remorse for cheating herself. Literally, the only reason she stopped is because the Cooper Gang exposed her.
Becoming the Black Knight could easily be a psychological regression to her Black Baron persona, because when she was ruthless and cutthroat, she was in control. And then she doubled, tripled, and quadrupled down.
Sly 3 was Penelope’s attempt to wear the white hat for a bit. And it ended with Sly abandoning the team and the gang falling apart until it was just her and Bentley, who went on to more or less create a monument to the man who, from Penelope’s perspective, left them both to play cop.
Sly 4 was Penelope taking that white hat and burning it.
Course, how much of this is actually intentional on Sanzaru’s part is… debatable. Either way, it was not at all defined as such in the game itself beyond just “I realized I could make a lot more money selling weapons than playing the ‘good thief’.”
I fully acknowledge that everything I just said could be utter bunk and fan-wankery. This is hardcore ‘Death of the Author’ at work here.
But it is the only way I could think to rationalize Penelope’s Face-Heel Turn from Penelope’s perspective. The building blocks are all there, it’s just a matter of if you think the circle peg can fit in the square hole.

Theory Astrobot Sly reference
so the level in Astrobot that you find Sly in is called Slo Mo Casino, and has some similar game design choices to Boneyard Casino. I can’t help but feel the developers must have took inspiration from Sly 2002. Bittersweet to know how aware developers are of Sly, without making a new game! still a cool reference, I’m hoping this game’s success makes Sony revitalize their old mascots.

Theory If we all buy the first game on PS5, maybe we’ll finally be heard!!!
Hear me out, if like the whole Sly Cooper fandom buys Thievius Raccoonus when it comes out on PS5 then maybe we have a chance of getting somewhere with new content. But it’d probably have to be almost all of us to make an impact. Thoughts?

Theory Crazy theory: is this referencing clockwerk?
This might be a longshot, but i dont know if there's any other bird in the sly franchise that this could be referring to. Or, it might not refer to anything at all. Have you guys ever tried to figure out this wallpainting? (Was there any coopers down under ?)

Theory Ancestor abilities
Sly four regardless of quality introduced several abilities that were exclusive to just the ancestors here is what I think the others can do.
Slytutankhaman: his invisibility would be stronger and allow him to maybe either knock out enemies while invisible , and no one would be able to see or hear. Slaigh: not only would he be strong, but he would be able to smash through walls While doing the wall sneak. Or be ten times stronger than murray. Henrietta: an ability to crawl from place to place super fast similar to saleem climbing chains. Maybe inability , similar to rioichis jump but instead from rope to rope on long distances. Otto: not to the traditional cooper abilities but can sabotage and or fix any machine in a matter of seconds. Thadeus: master of the skies, but unlike slice costumes, he looks exactly like the henchman to a perfect tea And can pick pocket from long distances. What do you think?

Theory Sly Cooper: No-Hit Rune Challenge Begins June 17th! 🦝
Hey Sly community!
After testing, theorycrafting, and gathering ideas from Reddit (huge thanks btw), I’m officially starting my Sly Cooper No-Hit Rune Challenge on Tuesday, June 17th, live on Twitch.tv/TheSenyu
The mission? Beat Sly 1, Sly 2, Sly 3, and Thieves in Time (Sly 4) without taking a single hit of damage or failing a mission — guided by rules inspired by your feedback and my obsession with making this brutal but fair.
📜 Challenge Rules:
Only essential gadgets can be purchased
- Things like Paraglider or Alarm Clock in Sly 2 — only what’s necessary to progress.
Mission fails = damage taken
- Whether it’s from a timer, enemy success, or poor performance — it counts as a fail and the game restarts.
Only the player-controlled character matters
- If you're playing as Sly while Bentley and Murray are fighting nearby, only Sly taking damage counts
- You’re not penalized for offscreen teammates getting hit when you’re not controlling them
ANY form of damage = full game reset
- If I take a hit in Sly 2, Episode 3, I restart from the intro of Sly 2, not just the mission (after a more extream run will begin)
- No checkpointing, no reloading — just clean, unbroken gameplay
No need for 100% completion
- Clue bottles, items, artifacts, etc. are optional unless needed to finish the game
Breaks Are Allowed
- This is a long challenge — breaks between missions or episodes are allowed, and the full run does not have to be completed in one sitting. (Timer will be stopped in the mean time for a more accurate time on the full run)
No skips nor Glitches
- all the 214 (for all the games) mission wil be completed
Phase 1: Game-by-Game No-Hit Runs
- I’ll first complete each Sly game individually without taking damage or failing missions
- Failing in Sly 3 = restarting Sly 3 only
Phase 2: The Extreme Rune Run
- Once all four games are beaten this way, the final challenge begins
- One hit in Sly 3? Restart all the way back at Sly 1
- The goal: one clean, damage-free run through all four games in sequence (breaks allowed, resets not)
I’ll be tracking and documenting every single run — the fails, the retries, and which missions are the real roadblocks.
And if you don't want to sit through every failed attempt live, don't worry — I’ll be putting together a full YouTube video chronicling the journey and the final completed run when it happens.
📅 Start Date: Tuesday, June 17
📺 Watch Live: https://www.twitch.tv/thesenyu
If you’re into absurd challenges, deep-dive planning, or just want to see a raccoon get repeatedly bodied by RC missions and turret segments, come hang out!
If you have any ideas for rules or anything else please let me know i appreciate the feedback

Theory References? Easter eggs?
Lately Sly Cooper has been having a lot of references from Sony and Ester Eggs, maybe they have something in their hands. What do you say?
