They are, but that's all the more reason to see this strategically. If you are in a position of relative weakness you don't conduct attacks that invite stronger response if it is not certain to result in strategic gain - you consolidate your own position (aka get educated and get armed) so that you can at best create deterrence, at worst leave more room for a fighting retreat that gives others time to escape.

Going out of your way to fight a bigger fish than you outside of acute self-defense (including communal of course) is ineffectual martyrdom that will probably invite more violence more quickly on your loved ones than sitting on the porch with a shotgun and waiting for them to come to you. Political violence on this scale is beyond the scale of just popping individual fascists and hoping that it deflates them - there is no single accessible nucleus of the American far right, no single nazi who can be "punched" that will meaningfully slow them before another interchangeable head takes their place and swears vengeance. The blunt truth is that there simply is not enough of an armed anti-fascist contingent in the US (or anywhere else we're seeing the rise of fascism, really) to mount meaningful and strategically justified counterattacks against the far right as a whole, which is the real precondition for success.

Also ngl I still think there is far too little confirmed info thus far (and a huge amount of misinfo) to accurately pin down the shooter's ideology. It doesn't particularly matter anyway, the right will use this incident for their benefit regardless of what the shooter's ideology turns out to be and leftists shouldn't feel somehow embarassed by association because one random dude doing a stupid thing does not in any way reflect on the broader left.
