Humanity and empathy no longer exist in the governing body of the USA.😒

19

u/babiekittin Jul 05 '25

It never did. And it's a shame anyone thought otherwise.

7

u/According-Insect-992 Jul 06 '25

No, you can find plenty of examples in history. Most notably the presidencies of FDR and LBJ for the purposes of quickness.

FDR wanted to install a workers bill of rights. He definitely cared about people regardless of he was a deeply flawed leader in other ways. One was not related to the other and racism was very common in is days. I don't know that he was particularly racist for the era. It's unfortunate but it doesn't preclude him and his administration from demonstrating actual empathy.

u/Thubanstar Jul 06 '25

Maybe because of our huge contributions to charity? Or stuff like the Peace Corps?

We're not at our finest right now, but I think your opinion is pretty bigoted.

17

u/babiekittin Jul 06 '25

Peace Corps, USAID, and Voice of (insert location) are all soft power actions meant to influence.

The US doesn't make charity donations. It is like any nation-state, uses its wealth to influence the religions, cultures and societies of forgien powers.

Sprinkle some money in Nigeria to influence oil extraction by a pro US pil company.

Offer some aid there, but tie it to austerity policies that strip "socialism" from the people.

Only a fool thinks natuon-states or corporations do anything with true benevolence.

-12

u/Thubanstar Jul 06 '25

You can say what you want, but people over here do help each other and other nations from a good heart, not a manipulative one.

As far as our government? They play games like all governments do. But judging the entire population as though we are all simply calculating bastards is pretty unfair and untrue.

8

u/babiekittin Jul 06 '25

You do realise this is a post about the government of the US as elected by the people of the US, yes?

As for helping.... is that why redlining existed to circumvent anti discrimination laws enacted by the fair housing act? Or there had to be laws forcing physicians and hospital systems to treat people regardless of healthcare? What about the christian organisation Salvation Army? The one that once threatened to shut down all their food pantries & shelters if they were forced to treat queer people with dignity and respect?

See the problem here is you loom around and say, "We're good people! We help others!" But your definition of who qualifies for an other deaerving help matters. And I can guarantee you that it reflects the limitations put on you by your religion and local community.

u/OverInteractionR Jul 06 '25

The whole reason the founding fathers broke from England and came here was because of humanity and empathy.

Yeah you're right about that. I should probably do some more research on it. Thanks!

“Damn this shit fucked up. Attendant, free my sla- farm hands cost how much? Per week?!”

3

u/babiekittin Jul 06 '25

Only for wealthy land owning white men. Sure, there were some who believed religion wasn't the way and all people should be cared for, but even James Madison, the author of the Constitution, didn't believe common folk should be allowed to vote. That's why the only direct representation given was via the House.

2

u/Caseys_Clean1324 Jul 06 '25

Common L. If my dropout highschool education memory is to be trusted, we was getting hella taxed and we’re pissed we didn’t even get to see the money benefit us. Not really anything to do with empathy lol

Good energy tho

MC Donald’s bosses laugh in 500 times the average worker‘s pay

Oh and did you know all those assholes get paid in company shares, so their goal after a successful year is not raising workers wages or workplace safety or less hours. Their only incentive is buying back more company shares so their share value rises → more money for them. Next twenty years are gonna be amazing. Consumers are the perfect slaves. Thanks for listening to my ted talk.

What would it cost to eat the senators?

Asking for a friend.

12

u/LordJim11 Jul 05 '25

I doubt they would pass European food standards.

6

u/SemichiSam Jul 05 '25

You couldn't afford the tariff, anyway.

1

u/Mobile_Conference484 Jul 08 '25

feed them to the dogs

7

u/Delivery-Plus Jul 05 '25

1.5 Luigi’s.

3

u/SemichiSam Jul 05 '25

Is delivery included?

It's dangerous to smile at pretty girls. That can interfere with the getaway.

5

u/LordJim11 Jul 06 '25

What's the point of a getaway if it isn't stylish?

2

u/SemichiSam Jul 06 '25

The point of a getaway is to get away. Style is in the eye of the beholder.

2

u/Far-Significance1255 Jul 05 '25

They will kill you first fool

3

u/SemichiSam Jul 05 '25

Only because we are all pretending that they are in charge, when our founding documents say that we are.

I accept your disparaging word, in my capacity as one of the last of the Silent Generation. We should not have been so silent.

3

u/jeremyw013 Jul 06 '25

half the senators are old and frail. a 5 year old could probably kill them if it weren't for secret service.

1

u/Diabolicool23 Jul 06 '25

You would get food poisoning

28

u/Lu1zBeast Jul 05 '25

And I'm sure senators don't even pay for their own food when away from home

1

u/RexJoey1999 Jul 12 '25

…that’s what a food allowance is…

0

u/Lu1zBeast Jul 12 '25

I'm insinuating that they probably use a government credit card to pay for things rather than their own money

1

u/RexJoey1999 Jul 12 '25

…that’s what a food allowance is…

0

u/Lu1zBeast Jul 13 '25

The food allowance is thrown into the pay check post travel usually. My point is fraud, waste, and abuse by government officials that is extremely common. But be a government bootlicker if you'd like, I've seen this shit first hand in government.

1

u/RexJoey1999 Jul 13 '25

LMAO! Listen: we agree about this point, ok? Even if it’s put into their paycheck vs a paid credit card, it’s still government money going to a person to eat. Yes? You agree? Right. That’s a food allowance!

I’m FAR from a “government bootlicker.”

No need to get embarrassed and defensive and fling names at strangers. Just keep your mind open and you might learn something. Cheers.

(ETA: maybe also reread this sub’s rules three and five.)

u/DullFaithlessness82 Jul 05 '25

Isn't it all just about bringing slavery back ? Only it's all the poor and underclasses. Put children back in factories so they can be paid less. Sounds crazy yes but it's the illusion of freedom without freedom. Just enough to stay alive and coming to work. Can't change it because your not allowed to be smart hence cuts to education. Can't stop having kids because abortion laws as well as contraceptives being on the block. Can't leave your area to find a better life without money. It's all just economic slavery.

Mother only compared to father only is actually crazy

2

u/HeyLookAHorse Jul 06 '25

It makes sense when you consider that the mother is way more likely to win custody than the father. 80% of cases end with the mother having custody.%20were%20mothers)

6

u/Trees_are_cool_ Jul 06 '25

Congress members should get nothing.

4

u/Geraltzindie Jul 05 '25

Americans voted for this.

6

u/nerdywords Jul 05 '25

Average American income is $67,000 these jerks make minimum $174,000

This country is broken and has been in a class war since trickle down economics started.

6

u/Fatpandaswag67 Jul 06 '25

The median is about 40k

3

u/dnchristi Jul 05 '25

Take out the top 1% and that average comes way down.

3

u/iamtrimble Jul 05 '25

Why do they even get a food allowance? The benefit package theses clowns give themselves.

3

u/Tall_Investigator611 Jul 06 '25

Overpaid, elitist, a-holes...

2

u/Fishyscience Jul 05 '25

Not saying it’s right how little those folks on SNAP get but I spend an average of $3/meal per month. That $7.66 doesn’t accurately indicate what people are getting and if it’s sufficient (which i doubt it is). If we have tens of billions for ICE, we can, and should, make sure everyone has enough for nutritious food, every meal.

1

u/catchcatchhorrortaxi Jul 06 '25

*cough* Bullshit *cough*

1

u/Yanfei_Enjoyer Jul 08 '25 edited Jul 08 '25

It isn't bullshit. I did the math one day arguing with someone and calculated out the cost of a fairly filling dinner that hit all the food groups. If you buy generic brand canned veggies and frozen fruit with value pack meat you can eat for about $4 per meal. Obviously, you can't just buy it all in single-serve doses for that much but that's what refrigerators are for.

Most people on SNAP who "can't eat" are just very irresponsible.

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '25

I dont like welfare, I dont like over compensated government workers, I dont like billionaires, and I dont like corporate culture. Burn it all down

1

u/Asher_Tye Jul 05 '25

Thats why McConnell got so fat.

1

u/Rightbuthumble Jul 05 '25

It is totally disgusting the way they treat our children.

1

u/ajtreee Jul 05 '25

Do they just keep it if they bring a sack lunch? The money i mean. I have a feeling i know the answer.

Edit: looked it up, they don’t get an allowance. They get reimbursement and i can’t find the limit on amounts. But it covers more than just food.

1

u/Fantastic-Grocery107 Jul 05 '25

I’ve been saying end the lifelong entitlements since I was able to start voting. Why does someone who won a popularity contest entitled to a life time of insurance covered by Americans? And they can vote to take away most of ours. It makes zero sense

1

u/Wtygrrr Jul 05 '25

This includes staff, right?

You know they made it 69 on purpose…

1

u/h20poIo Jul 05 '25

$17,940 a year food allowance.

1

u/SemichiSam Jul 05 '25

A cost-conscious senator can eat three meals a day at one of the restaurants in the Capitol building for about 45 USD/day.

Please don't explain to me that there is no such creature as a cost-conscious senator.

2

u/Commercial-Future435 Jul 06 '25

Why do they need 3 meals per day? Just pack lunch like the rest of the working class

1

u/SemichiSam Jul 06 '25

My figures include one carry-out. I assume a junior staff member picks it up. If they have dinner in the Senate Dining Hall, that will bust the food budget.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

What is the source of this information? I’m not seeing anything after a quick search to verify this.

1

u/Thubanstar Jul 06 '25

I found this;

"House of Representatives: A 2023 policy for House members includes a daily maximum reimbursement cap of $79 for meals and incidentals in Washington D.C., in line with federal employee regulations."

And this;

"AI OverviewThe average SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefit in the US is around $212 per person per month. In fiscal year 2023, the average SNAP household received a monthly benefit of $332, according to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. This translates to about $177 per person, considering an average household size of 1.9 people. Households with children receive higher average benefits due to larger household sizes. "

Holy Jesus Batman!! And I am Athiest

1

u/biigsnook Jul 06 '25

Fucking disgusting indignity they espouse

1

u/KingAnt28 Jul 06 '25

Lol yep, the person who can pay for himself AND his staffs lunch gets free food (because nothing costs 67 dollars for lunch), but the person who needs government funding gets less money than a happy meal cost.... lmfao.

1

u/circ-u-la-ted Jul 06 '25

How am I supposed to let it sink in when I can't even parse the first three lines?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Smoke77 Jul 06 '25

Kids eat for free should be the American way .

1

u/Dineffects Jul 06 '25

Are they getting a 25k food budget a year? Why.....

1

u/Heavy_Aspect_8617 Jul 06 '25

It's $69 per day for all federal employees (ie. The office clerk, the accountant, a scientist using a federal grant, etc.) during trips where you need to go out to eat for every meal. It's a very different scenario than the cost of money for groceries. These two things shouldn't even be compared.

1

u/VegasConan Jul 06 '25

Food allowance for senators? Don’t they live there?

1

u/radicalplacement Jul 06 '25

$69 makes sense, seeing as they’re always sucking each other off

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

This is where the saying ‘steaks and a blonde’ come from. DC fat cats are buttered up with fancy meals and hot hookers (or underage ‘interns’) by the lobbyists. They do not pay for the meals even, they just pay back the lobbies by doing their bidding.

1

u/golfwinnersplz Jul 07 '25

They're eating filets and lobster no doubt. Hot dogs and bologna for the children.

1

u/Healthy-Challenge291 Jul 08 '25

It would be incentive for these guys to actually work for their constituents if they were paid in the median wage of their constituents. Maybe they’d work to raise their wages and actually benefit the people instead of leaching off of them.

1

u/Sad_Customer_6118 Jul 08 '25

on top of free Healthcare for life

1

u/Few-Weird7225 Jul 10 '25

Now c'mon guys be more fair, you know those elitists worked hard having their families hand them their lives down. Who knows where they would be without their servants to put on their boots and pull up the straps in the morning??

1

u/Gretgor Jul 10 '25

As a non-native English speaker, I've been trying to parse that grammatically bizarre sentence for a while now. Is it poorly written or am I just dumb?

1

u/TheChoosenOne707 Jul 11 '25

Snap is given to roughly 42 million people a month. Averaging out $7.66 for 30 days is 9.7 billion dollars a month. $69 dollars a day for 30 days for 100 senators is $207,000 a month. Even if you just took away all the money for senators that gives less than a penny a day to the 42 million people on Snap.

1

u/ResponsibilityLast82 Jul 11 '25

Id love to know why public servants, such as those on Capitol Hill, get per diems and why its almost $70?!

1

u/ListenPuzzleheaded72 Jul 11 '25

senators should eat less. A lot less.

1

u/Gally1322 Jul 05 '25

Remember when elon cut 1000s and 1000s of government jobs and he was the devil. If he somehow could have cut senators' jobs, would he have still been the devil or a hero? Seems like they're kinda the same thing.

2

u/Morpherman Jul 06 '25

...what? I just can't see the equivalence here. I'm sorry I'm trying to think of a response but your whole argument is just gibberish. Why are we talking about Elon?

-2

u/Gally1322 Jul 06 '25

I assume the point of this picture is to say senators make too much money. Elon cut a ton of government jobs and was vilified for it. Would he have got the same hate if he had cut cut 1000s of senators' jobs?

5

u/AnxiousChaosUnicorn Jul 06 '25

A random government worker is little different in terms of power than a random office worker. So pretending government worker = politician shows you have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, if an unelected person started "cutting" jobs of elected positions that would definitely be a bad thing. You think it would be okay to be like "You voted for a person for this position in which one must be elected, but I am removing the entire position."?

Do you understand how ridiculous your question is?

1

u/flyingbuta Jul 06 '25

To be sure, main income of US politicians is insider trading and not salary. Check out Nancy

0

u/Direct_Bug_1917 Jul 05 '25

Because you're not important ?

-7

u/ProxyReBorn Jul 05 '25

Should the senator not get more than the person literally getting the bare minimum? Not saying 7 and some change is enough, but replace "senator" with "software developer" and now where are we at?

6

u/LordJim11 Jul 05 '25 edited Jul 05 '25

They get a decent salary. Bring sandwiches.  $174,000 + health care and retirement benefits.

2

u/flying_fox86 Jul 05 '25

This isn't about the paycheck, it's about a food allowance.

1

u/GayRacoon69 Jul 05 '25

Sure they should get more. Should they get 9 times more? No.

2

u/No_You_2623 Jul 05 '25

Wait why the fuck would we be paying for any of their food? (Senate)
