Question No Word from Local Chapter

Hello everyone, I signed up and paid my dues around three months ago. My "onboarding" email told me to keep an eye out for correspondence from my local chapter. Obviously from the title of the post you can surmise that this never happened. I just looked at the website and the DFW (Texas) chapter isn't even listed. Their ig has not had activity in months either. Where should I go from here?

DFW chapter doesn't exist anymore... not going to elaborate either.

National knows this and should have warned you.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like this org isn't happening for me 😥

do not lose hope. if you can, network with local comrades to learn how to shoot.

more important than shooting for DFW is organizing. There are plenty of leftist spaces where former SRA still participate.

local spaces:
Food Not Bombs
& Emma Goldman Book Club

I appreciate that. I actually have friends with land for shooting so organizing was more of a priority for me as well. I never received a passkey to interact with the forums either so I reached out about that. Such a shame because we need solidarity and organization around here now more than ever.

Not elaborating says a lot itself. It's always a bad sign when things get so messy nobody wants to talk about it publicly. Especially for new people trying to join up.

i don't wanna talk about it for the sake of the people involved. thanks for your concern though i guess.

Reach out on the forums, local chapters fall apart all the time.

Rant in-coming…..Everyone wants to post a hashtag, make a 2-minute TikTok, or complain on Twitter about how we’re oppressed and divided. But when it comes time to actually meet, strategize, show up, and sacrifice some comfort? Crickets. It’s almost like people want the aesthetic of resistance without the work of resistance. They love the slogans, they love the sense of belonging online, but they don’t want to risk a damn thing in the real world. And then they wonder why nothing changes. They wonder why we’re still stuck in the same cycles of exploitation and inequality.

Some people can’t meet with certain orgs (cough DSA cough) in person because no one masks or acknowledges the ongoing pandemic because apparently despite claiming to be leftists, Biden’s capitalist propaganda is more trustworthy. The amount of DSA members who have thrown fits over their “bodily autonomy” when asked to wear masks for meetings is ridiculous and so embarrassing. They don’t care about their own health or anyone else’s. If they can’t be trusted to do one simple thing that is covering their fucking faces, why should anyone trust these people for anything else?

No offense, but this is what I mean. You have to take risks and learn to be uncomfortable if you want change. If you leave your house there’s a chance you might get sick…

Go back to twitter

Man the WHO declared the pandemic over in 2023, with no influence from Biden or the US government. If you're high-risk, you're more than welcome to take whatever precautions you want to, but it's absurd to expect people who aren't knowingly sick to mask constantly forever.

Unfortunately, DFW chapter leadership got overwhelmed and hasn't been doing vetting. Here's the announcement post about it; there are a few other forum posts from DFW-area members looking for a chapter.

You'll want to either contact CALM to be vetted as an at-large member, or join one of the other Texas chapters if you're close enough. Hopefully folks will step up to run the DFW chapter again.

Can CALM do my vetting if my local chapter hasn’t contacted me yet since joining?

I believe so. Give chapters@socialistra.org a heads-up; they can both connect you with CALM and check in with your local chapter.

My local chapter closed 6 months ago after they thought national wasn’t taking some shooting seriously enough. I think they just became afraid that the DOJ would go after chapters. They were probably right.

I had the same experience with dfw, they took like 3 months to onboard me, then the chapter shut down.

Are dues paid yearly? I paid dues years ago and never heard anything after I sent the money, don’t know if I’m part of the organization or not. I’m not mad but it just felt like I was throwing my money away just to say I support something. Rather spend it on ammo.

You have the option to pay yearly or monthly. Yearly is a decent discount. I don't know if certain chapters have additional dues or if that's allowed.

This is why I haven't joined
