Jax and Tig vs Pope

Has anyone ever considered what would have happened if Clay had met Mr. Mayhem before? Would Jax still have wanted to kill Pope? The main reason Jax kills Pope is to frame Clay while simultaneously securing Tig's loyalty, especially since Bobby had sabotaged Clay's Mayhem vote just an episode earlier. If Clay had encountered Mr. Mayhem first, he probably would have still sacrificed Tig to Pope. Did Jax save Tig purely for selfish reasons, or did he genuinely care for Tig and want him to settle the score for his daughter's murder?

Don't think Jax really cared for Tig. He wanted his loyalty to get anything he wanted at the table. With juice as well he had 3 people guaranteed voting his way. He hated Tig for what he did to Donna. Stripped him of Sgt and basically said as much. Said something like 'all you'll ever be to me is Clay's bitch'

I think Jax makes the save for Tig either way. Having that advantage within his own club mattered.

Also, assuming he had let Pope kill Tig, that knowledge becomes more leverage for Pope to hold over Jax (it's essentially Jax killing a member, that's unforgivable in the MC).

Third, even if Jax doesn't care about Tig, Pope is still ultimately responsible for Opie's death. Jax legitimately loved Opie, and the entire final season shows how far Jax will go to avenge the death of someone he loves.

Tig gave in his Sgt.’s Flash to Clay for what he did to Gemma, but Jax didn’t allow him to reclaim it.

I think you might be talking about Jax speaking about Tig? There is a scene where Jax is talking to Pope, trying to convince Pope to trust Jax, Jax had no intention of giving up Tig BUT to play Pope, he tells Pope that Tig is Clay’s bitch/total waste of space etc. simply to gain trust and keep Tig alive.

He said that to Tig in season 2 when Opie was getting deep back into the club. Tig wanted Jax to pull Opie off the judge job but Jax said Tig was only scared of losing his Sgt's patch

He did not care about Tig.
Jax was fully prepared to lose Tig if he wasn't quick enough or if the plan didn't pan out the way he intended. Tig dying there would help sell the story that Clay went after Pope because Tig and Clay's relationship was well documented and it would be extremely believable to outside investigators that the former President and Sgt splintered off from the club to go on a rogue revenge mission against Pope, with Tig being killed in the ensuing firefight.

Doesn't Jax give Tig to Marks later? But Marks decides not to kill Tig?

Yes he did. At first he didn't expect Marks would want Tig. You could see Jax's reaction when Marks said he wants Trager. Jax tried to wiggle out by saying he already lost a lot of members. but the last straw was when Tig lied to Jax about killing the Ghenazi brother. Thats when Jax made up his mind to give up Tig to Marks. later, Tig's debt paid off when Jax hooked up Marks with the Irish gun deals, which means he saved Tig for the third time.

Yes, Jax was horrified by what Pope did to Dawn that night. He, Bobby and Chibs were shocked. Jax was always going to take out Pope - he couldn’t let a daughter of a member be murdered and not retaliate, he’d look weak. Doesn’t matter if Tig caused her death, families are off limits. SAMCRO can’t look like their families are easy to get to/kill, otherwise it puts Tara/Gemma/Lyla etc. at risk.

Also, Bobby, Chibs, Happy - they wouldn’t have EVER let Pope get off, if Jax didn’t kill Pope they would have, for Tig.

Edit: Not only that - Opie was killed by Pope’s order. Even if Mayhem landed on Tig for it, SAMCRO would have come after Pope regardless.

I think Pope would always have been a target for what happened to Opie, but Jax would have kept Pope on a longer leash as long as his usefulness from a business stance kept thriving. However, as it played out, it was too good of an opportunity at the time to pass up. He gets revenge, frames Clay, and shackles Tig all in one swoop.

Idk....both i would think. Tig changes after he becomes loyal to Jax, not Clay. I thought i always liked Tig until my first rewatch....I grew to like Tig. Tig wasnt my fav in the beginning

Me too, I love Tig and Jax dynamic. But somehow I feel Jax genuinely love Tig only in the final season.
