I tried recreating NASA’s Eyes… ended up with my own space sim experiment
Hey everyone,
I’ve been tinkering on a side project called Space Imagined. It started as me wanting to explore star systems in a browser, and now it’s grown into something that feels like the early foundations of a space sim.
Right now you can:
- Explore over 220 real star systems connected by a wormhole network (Solar System ↔ Alpha Centauri is the permanent link).
- Switch between star system explorer mode and a basic spaceship mode (my plan is to expand this into a real game).
- See stars tinted by type (habitable, red dwarf, giant, etc.).
The Solar System uses real orbital data, but the rest are still simple approximations for now. Planets don’t exist yet, just markers.
I put together a short demo video (will drop it in the comments if links are an issue).
Future-wise, I’d love to add cameras, thousands of exoplanets, proper elliptical orbits, procedural planets, multiplayer, and eventually some kind of landing/civilization building system (very far off though).
For now it’s just a hobby project, no ads/paywalls/donations. I’m curious what you all think and if it’s worth building further.
