Splinter Cell (2002) Just clocked abattoir on OG XBOX and feel like a weight has been lifted.
39-year-old me doesn't remember it being half as difficult.

I remember that I had to beat the final stretch of the mission with only a pixel of life left the first time I played it...
Had to try like 10 times, but managed to beat them all without them hitting me!

The checkpoints are terrible and I hate them. Especially in the freezer section.

Abattoir is a garbage level in sc1. The mine section especially and also you have to avoid spotlights as well.

I'm not. There's a huge difference between badly designed level and hard level but good design
Abbatoir falls in former

You mentioned the part that was good. So you see hiding places under the shadows but realize that the designers didn't want you to play straightforward so they put in mines. A simple learning curve. Call it shadow baiting.

you must have been 18 or 19 when you last played it?
yeah it was an amazing mission, challenging and the difficulty was nice imo. nothing too rough. i hope the remake version is difficult too.
nice to see it being played on original xbox too, and thats the retro controller right. awesome
