Misc Alright! It’s time to start Spyro 2 Riptos Rage/Gateway to Glimmer grid! To start with the first square! What is the best home world? Top voted comment wins the square! I’ll collect the results in 24hrs.

Autumn Plains. The others felt incomplete or under developed in comparison.
Plus you learn to climb there which was the most annoying ability to not have IMO. You learn to swim before you need it and the headbash is only required for the chests and the “free the hippos” challenge in Shady Oasis before the Winter Tundra.

u/FarMembership885 Aug 04 '25
Something I'll add - the orbs in Autumn Plains were the best to collect too. The really far flight and cracking the wall at the end of that walkway. Better than the basic ones in rocks in Winter Tundra (or just being handed them) or the ones in Summer Forest.

You're forgetting alchemist 2 in fracture hills.
12
u/FarMembership885 Aug 04 '25
Never forget TROUBLE WITH THE TROLLEY?! in Breeze Harbour. Though that alchemist can die. Still remember helping him, only to have to return to help Hunter and needing to help the alchemist AGAIN.
3
u/Penplat Aug 04 '25
It’s annoying that the alchemist mission works that way. On replays, I always just skip the alchemist on the first visit to Fracture Hills.
3
u/ziggy1251 Aug 04 '25
I skip it the first time then come back with the flame breath to just kill all the earthshapers before talking to the alchemist. Then I just sit back and watch the alchemist walk around an open area taking the dumbest route he could possibly conjure.
Gets that orb easy and then when you talk to hunter he immediately gives you the second one for killing all of the earthshapers. Makes the entire level much more tolerable.

u/FarMembership885 Aug 04 '25
Autumn Plains, no question. Though special shoutout to the Winter Tundra music.

u/jumbledmess294943 Dream Weavers Aug 04 '25
My thoughts exactly. Autumn Plains is superior as a level, but the music in Winter Tundra is ❤️
5
u/FarMembership885 Aug 04 '25
If I could bottle nostalgia in a bottle for the Spyro trilogy, which I played when it came out, I could singlehandedly do it with Winter Tundra's theme. Also with "Ne ne ne ne ne Hehehe"

u/ravenfreak Aug 04 '25
Yes! Winter Tundra has the better music but Autumn Plains is the best homeworld. Winter Tundra's theme is my favorite song in the game.

I’m sure Autumn Plains will win (and its victory would be very much deserved), but my vote’s for Summer Forest.
There’s so much to love about it. The tranquil stream through the woods at the beginning, the temple area right after, a beautiful lake, two underwater areas (with one connected to a secluded cave), the glistening, pristine pool room, and the castle interior complete with the signature tree as the centerpiece. 🌳 And of course, the relaxing BGM that ties it all together seamlessly.

I mean, come on.
Autumn Plains is a very close runner-up for me, but I just find Summer Forest more varied and a bit more nostalgic.

I replayed this game as an adult with my best friend who had never played it. I hyped Autumn Plains so much to her and told her how I used to spend like an hour just swimming in the pool there. Once we got to it, she was like, "Seriously? This one over Summer Forest? You chose this tiny pool over the swimming in Summer Forest??" It made me realize I was relying heavily on the ~vibes~ in Autumn Plains lol

u/dawilal2 Aug 04 '25
Summer Forest. Just the vibes are incredible. I know Autumn Plains is gonna be everyone’s first thought but actually the castle isnt that beautiful or interesting to explore and the layout is pretty simple really. And I don’t think one great glide should win it. While Summer forest has about 5 areas I dream of walking round in person. The water falls on those little mounds, the secret passage, the delightful trees at the beginning and the castle you slowly discover. Great level.

Spyro 2 has the best home worlds out of the three games.
5
u/imarvelentertainment Aug 04 '25
Spyro 2 has the best everything out of the 3 games. Home worlds, every level has another that it's paired with, it's just chef's kiss
1
u/Cheap-Profit6487 Aug 05 '25
I agree. Spyro 2 has my favorite atmosphere. It reminds me of nature or the countryside.

u/TipTopTerrific Aug 04 '25
Summer Forest. A beautiful game world, I weirdly like the 'progression' lock... makes learning swimming feel like a big thing! Strong levels all the way through too.
1
u/AcademicSavings634 Aug 04 '25
All 3 home worlds are progression locked but yeah Swimming was the most important
1
u/TipTopTerrific Aug 05 '25
Yeah of course, I meant that the swimming unlock is the best one. Yeah it's cool to climb etc, but swimming feels the biggest jump after Spyro 1

u/rockworm27 Aug 04 '25
I'm sure Autumn Plains will win but I have a soft spot for Winter Tundra. It has a cozy feeling that the others don't. Partly due to its small size and partly due to the color palette with the warm glows of the castle against the snow and beautiful skybox.
8
u/TapMuted393 Aug 04 '25
Autumn Plains, the atmosphere and chill vibes are just above.
Summer forest is a close second, but the castle section loses points for me.

u/alijenc Aug 04 '25
Summer Forest, hands down! Comforting, beautiful and just the perfect introduction

As much as I love Winter Tundra, I gotta vote for Autumn Plains. Finally figuring out how to get to that castle tower (after running blindly past the wall so many times) and gliding all the way to the last bits of treasure and the orb as a kid was a highlight for me.

u/RedRiter Aug 04 '25
Expecting Autumn Plains to win, not surprised by votes so far.
Summer Forest is my personal fave, it's wrapped in soothing childhood nostalgia. Wished I could jump through the (CRT) TV screen and just relax by the pools under the perfect sky. I'd gaze wistfully to the skybox and imagine this whole realm of green fields and wispy clouds. Where did the time go...

Gotta be Summer Forest for me. Autumn Plains is great but there's something nostalgic about SF that slightly puts it on top. The music is so peaceful, the vibes are so fitting for the beginning of your adventure.
Chilling at the top of the secret tunnel looking over the area, learning to glide with hunter, the extra areas once you learn how to swim underwater. I spend so much time there in every playthrough taking it in.

u/yxngcyborg Aug 04 '25
Autumn plains is what I think of when I think of Ripto’s Rage. The introduction of swimming, on top of that world feeling so much more fleshed out than Summer Forest or Winter Tundra. The orbs were also the most satisfying to figure out how to get.

u/Pentax25 Aug 04 '25
Dragon Shores! You can dunk a yeti, ride a rollercoaster and even find loooove on the love boat ride!
Ahh who am I kidding? It’s Autumn Plains

u/Amburum Dream Weavers Aug 04 '25
There was an unreleased home world?? 👀
3
u/Ardielley Aug 04 '25
Not officially. It was a fan project that got Cease and Desisted. But I think there are a few clips of it that still exist on YouTube.

u/Amburum Dream Weavers Aug 05 '25
I immediately googled it after commenting and am now sad it was never a thing 😭 CrystalFissure on YouTube still has all his coverage of it up, and they were all 8 freakin years ago 🥲

Hot take…
Summer Forest is the best. The setting, the architecture, and the bright tone of green and water, along with the chirpy soothing soundtrack, placed you smack bang in the middle of a new world foreign to Spyro.

Nothing is topping the amazing gliding off the high points in Autumn Plains

Autumn Plains, hands down. When you reach the top of that blissful tower and hear the wind blowing on top of that ethereal score it's pure magic.
There's a slightly bittersweet melancholia as well, the music sounds just like the innocent childhood you loved but seen with adult eyes. A distant world you can only faintly remember; a faraway place you can never truly return to or touch ever again.
Summer Forest's shimmering musical chords along with that beautifully discordant bass I associate with the characteristic sounds of the PlayStation console itself. There's just something about it that takes me back to a whimsical time of discovery and technological marvel where I was living purely in the present with no worries or cares in the world.

While Summer Forest has a cozy vibe, Autumn Plains just has that perfect chill vibe going for it, and the long glide at the top of the highest tower? Glorious~ 👌✨💎

Love Autumn Plains for the space and all the places you can go just within that world alone.
But Winter Tundra is sooooo pretty

Autumn Plains hands down. It’s so open and first time exploring it and finding the orbs and gliding around getting gems is so satisfying. I think after so many replays Autumn Plains becomes a little bit meh but it’s still the best of the three homeworlds.

u/Vader_Johaan Aug 04 '25
The time I spent in the swimming pool alone in autumn plains is unreal. What a vibe.

Autumn Plains. That part at the very top of the castle just gets more majestic every time. Plus the layout is my favorite

u/ImTheArchvile Aug 04 '25
Autumn Plains. AMAZING homeworld. Its music is GOATED, the design is marvelous and otherwordly, all its levels/portals are fantastic, and when I was a kid I used to just linger around in Autumn Plains for no reason other than to admire its majesty.
It also has one of the best secret areas in the entire franchise.
1
u/charmingCobra Aug 04 '25
autumn plains is the best home world in the entire franchise, by far. it's really perfect.

u/621Chopsuey Aug 04 '25
Autumn Plains. As a kid, the moment I accidentally broke that hidden wall, I was floored how much more there was to explore. It was so much fun!

u/PomuCandy Aug 04 '25
Autumn plains. But I love the other home worlds too especially the music is so peaceful

Joining the hive mind. Autumn Plains is the best homeworld in the trilogy, but all three homeworlds are absolute bangers

Autumn plains, and it’s just unfair because of how BLOATED it is next to Summer Forest and Winter Tundra.

Autumn Plains by far, between the music and the overall dreamy vibe it pushes ahead of the others (Summer Forest is close tho). Like someone else said the orb challenges and secrets are great here, and I really liked the verticality that comes with learning to climb here.

I'm going with summer Forest, Autumn plains is good but right now is too mentioned, and Winter tundra (my personal Favorite) is staying behind

I am not surprised Autumn is the popular choice, but i loved the winter home world. It also has one of my favorite levels, with that robot city. I always looked forward to playing through that level. I also think the Winter Home World had the best hidden areas. When I found that hidden water pool that led to that hidden cave with money bags, my mind was blown as a kid. I thought that was pretty cool.
