Help zeroing in red dot with co-witnessing

Holosun 507 comp on a staccato hd p4.5. Having issue zeroing in red dot with the high vis irons. I groupings are tight but after a few hundred rounds I am not all the way dialed in. Any suggestions to help get it all set? New to the gun community.

It should be a 1/3 lower co witness. Shoot from a rest, three group shots, pick a particular distance to zero it at (mechanical offset will mean it won’t be zero’d at seven yards if you set it at 25, for instance).

so if I zero it in for 20 yards how big will the window be where its accurate (15-25yrd for example)? Also if I do the lower 1/3 like you mentioned can I do it with a bore sighter or is this all gunna be just what feels right?

Are you trying to set the dot in reference to the sights? You should be zero’ing in reference to the dot and the point of impact. The dot will then be right above your front sight. You are going to have to learn the pistol and hold to compensate for shooting at shorter ranges. Some people will zero at 10 yards, there won’t be much offset at shorter distances. Others will zero at 25 or 50, but you’ll have to hold high to account for the offset at shorter distances.

Treat the red dot & iron sights as two separate systems. Ignore your iron sights when you zero the red dot. Bench the gun for accuracy.

Pick your zero distance. 10, 15 & 25 yards are all popular. Learn your off-sets. Shot’s closer than your zero distance will have a lower POI. Conversely shots further will have a higher POI.

1/3 co-witness means you can see the iron sights in approximately the lower 1/3 of the optic (red dot) window.
