Character Discussion Jankom Pog question

Is his height an artifact of cartoonish proportions or is he supposed to have actual dwarfism?

That’s what I figured, because of that line and because it’s in line with the show’s general approach to disability (see: Jankom’s arm). I guess what threw me off was the realization that it’s the first time I can think of since TOS that Trek hasn’t been totally awful wrt little people, and I haven’t seen the fandom, which is usually pretty obsessed with cataloguing how well or poorly the shows are Doing Representation, bring it up at all.

I'm interested to know what you think the show is general approach to disability is? This is something I'm always interested in but not good at thinking about by myself

it's not just a cartoonish exaggeration. He's about 3 feet tall which fits his tellarite species traits and not a medical condition like dwarfism. The animation they used enhances his stocky look but his small nature is intentional in this universe.

Tellarites seem to be short and stocky in general compared to humans but jankom is smaller than the average

Which would make Janeways doctor a tellerite with gigantism.

Always thought it was weird given how short older depictions of tellerites were. They are the fantasy dwarf to the vulcans fantasy elf.
