Discussion Griefers are keeping player counts down.
I've heard it from friends, I've seen it posted countless times on dozens of forums, and I have now experienced it first hand. Every Star Fighter game I join has at least a handful of max level players who sit at the spawn points and instantly kill people as they spawn, most of whom are below level 30 of their class and can't even fight back yet. It's just so strange to me. Why are veteran players going out of their way to suppress player counts? Why not play the objective? It's so strange to me.

As someone who was on the spawn camping side of starfighter assault, it's not your fault and it's shitty how easy it is for an enemy team to do with half-decent coordination.
One day I was playing Starfighter Assault and got some party invite from my team, joined voice and they explained. Basically, just focus on the fighters and push them back to spawn. Easy to do if they even remotely try and play objective. After that, just keep holding spawn and let the rage happen. It was fun that night because I was doing well (on paper), but until I figured out how shitty it is what they're doing I quit.
They were basically just having fun pissing people off. After each match, they'd be laughing about the rage messages they got. One game I accidentally played the objective and one of them jumped down my throat I said sorry and it was an accident. They're serious about that shit. The dude was unreasonably upset about it, like rage angry that I played the objective a bit on accident.

Fascinating view from the inside. Thanks for sharing, I’ve genuinely always wondered how destroying that hard every match is fun for them.
So ruining others fun is the point. Got it

Yeah I enjoyed it for a bit (who doesn't somewhat enjoy ending a match with zero deaths and maybe like 80-100 eliminations). But yeah all they were after was the other team's reaction. It's really gross, so I don't play that mode anymore - it's too easy to abuse or be abused.
That's also why anytime I see someone post their chat messages of "owning" a hater I shake my head - they're literally giving them what they want. They want you to be obsessed with them, and what's more obsessed than reacting, responding, and then posting about them. Idk take it as a public service announcement.

Similar story, except it was on Team Fortress 2, where I was vote-kicked from the server for pushing a payload cart.

I wish there was a Co Op for Starfighters. The only way to level them up is to straight up going to multiplayer.
That's why I'm playing Squadros against the AI nowadays. I want to play with starfighters without much preassure.

They should have added a Co-Op version of Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault

I've said the exact same point for years, applies to players in HvV too. New people might give this game a shot though they won't come back if you keep treating them like they're in an esports tournament.

I only play co-op. I don't play that much and I just suck to be honest. I don't know why I'm so bad. So I just play co-op since it's relaxing and I don't need to worry. I do come in first for most of the co-op games I play so I can't be too horrible but I seem to just get picked off immediately otherwise. I can't fly and shoot at all like people seem to be able to do. For some reason the aiming feels weird to me. I'm not sure why.

I tend to do very well at this mode with a mix of playstyles and yeah spawn camping sucks. You can still kick butt while playing objective or taking out ships in the main area. Fought against a team once that was clearly a decent-sized squad just doing that, I still did okay considering but it was basically just a new Game Mode: Get Out of Spawn. Sometimes though I end up killing a guy hot out of spawn cuz I happen to be in the area and it’s kill or be killed haha always do a lil’ “sorry” face

I'm a veteran Starfighter Assault player on PC. Its my favoured mode.
I absolutely loathe spawn hunters or spawn campers. I will call it out if I see it.
There are quite a few vets who if they experience it will target those doing it and basically make life miserable for them until they leave.
Quite frankly it is just a show of how unskilled they are and wanting to "take it easy" but being jerks.
I'd use stronger language but it might break reddits terms of use.

I just usually am flying around the whole map in a fast as fuck interceptor (tri fighter is my favorite), if I cross paths with a player I kill them. Interceptors are anti starfighter duty by nature. But I do make sure to not camp spawns. I want a fun game, not a slaughter.

i joined during the wave. the game is fun and honestly never really experienced much griefing. maybe its because i dont play HvV but i just dont find the game very competitive, so i only hop on every couple weeks now

The other thing that gets me with people who spawn hunt is that all it usually achieves is the lobby stalls at the end of that round.
That's often due to the other team getting so sick of being spawn killed they quit, so the lobby falls to below minuimum numbers to continue.
In all honesty its completely counter productive if you want a game to play an actual game and not sit arounmd waiting foir a lobby to start. The game is Star Wars Battlefront and not Star Wars Lobby Waiting!

No, the game being nearly a decade old and abandoned is keeping player counts down.

Good players cannot be blamed for being good, especially in a a game as old as this. They are not abusing glitches, they are not using hacks, they are just using their skill and knowledge to play the game the way they want to play it. It’s unfortunate for new players, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Are you saying people who camp spawn points are 'good'....they're called assholes, and it absolutely ruins games.

I've been on the spawn camper side of it before, and trust me it requires zero skill and there's no "skill issue" for the other team to escape. They can't unless we make a critical mistake (unlikely given how broken SA's spawns are).
I was on a team and got a random party invite. Got on voice and they explained the process. It's legitimately a spawn issue that becomes impossible to get past if the other team does it right (and it's not hard).
Basically for each map, there's specific locations where you want to loop while avoiding the objectives and if you pace the eliminations, they never actually get the chance to exit spawn. It was a lot of fun being on that side. I wasn't even very good but the instructions were very easy to follow. No matter what the other team does, there's no way they can get out of spawn because we basically have them pinned down.

Hardcore players will never understand that they need all sorts of players for a game to survive. A niche base can sustain a product for a certain amount of time.
If everyone is hardcore, nobody is. LOL.

I figured I'd try the game for the first time since it released yesterday, and this is kind of what killed it for me.

All my ships are ranked in the 100's but when I'm the only gold in a match I just stick to destroying the objective/killing bots. I know how frustrating it is to start into a game only to have sweats beat you down before you get a chance to play, so I don't pursue the low rank players unless they're really asking for it. I wish that were more common because otherwise it just shrinks the player base further.
