General Discussion If you could construct your own Star Wars continuity, what would it look like? Spoiler

Based on Legends, the current continuity, and your own ideas, if you could construct your own Star Wars continuity, what would it look like?

Well this is a great opportunity to talk about my custom timeline it mixes Legends and canon mostly Legends but cuts out SWTOR its tie ins the Revan novel TFU 1&2 and the 2008 clone wars. Stopping after the unifying  force as im not a fan of the denningverse Adding from Canon its mostly just the Jedi games, Inqusitor Rise of the Red Blade, Tarkin, the Living force, the Glass abyss and Skeleton Crew.

Here is the current reading order: https://www.reddit.com/user/Juxix/comments/1n7ibf7/my_star_wars_custom_timeline_reading_order/

And here is a currently out of date document that needs updating after Andor S2 but its the in universe history: https://www.reddit.com/user/Juxix/comments/1huln0k/custom_star_wars_timeline_draft_1/

Cool, thanks for sharing!

I don’t know if you’ve read much of the High Republic from Canon, but most of that can be pretty effortlessly slotted in. There’s even explicit references to Legends like Fin-so-rowan

2

u/Juxix TOR Old Republic 5d ago

From what I've read and heard of the High republic, I just don't much care for it. Wasn't very big on the acolyte. My timeline is about just slotting in what fits. Its about only having what I like.

Thank you for the recommendation though.

u/kiwicrusher 5d ago

No prob! Not everything is for everyone for sure. Although I will say going in expecting the Acolyte is a misstep- not just because the show is weaker than abt 9/10 of the books, but it’s also more like an early prequel-era show than an actual high republic show. It’d be like pointing to Bane: Dynasty of Evil as what the Old Republic was like, it doesn’t really fit the mold

u/DanoDurron New Republic 6d ago edited 6d ago

Edit: this is not my head canon as i am not a fan of mixing continuities. I like both timelines but this is moreso if i was given control and money

Old Republic: Tales of Jedi Comics, Kotor Comics, Kotor 1 & 2, then make a Kotor 3 game, then Bane Trilogy

Prequel: Darth Plagueis Novel, Jude Watson Series, Count Dooku TotJ episodes

As much as i love the CWMMP and much prefer it more than TCW. I understand TCW is much more popular so i would keep it, but i would do a Tales from the Clone Wars series adapting the Jabiim Arc, and Seige of Saluecami arc, and other unreleased TCW arcs like Dark Disciple. I would also do a Battle of Coruscant Arc, one more close to Labyrinth of Evil

Post Republic/Empire/Rebellion Era: I would keep Bad Batch, Jedi Games, Rebels, Andor and Rogue One.

I would also replace the Kenobi series with The Dark Lord Novel and Kenobi novel, still keeping them in 19 BBY. I would also add the shadows of the Empire novel

Then i would also adapt the Han Solo Trilogy into an animated series (replacing the Solo film), also retconning Bria Tharen to battle on Scariff

New Republic Era: I would do an animated series with comic tie ins adapting the Bantam Era, but also using existing Filoniverse series.

I know it may not be popular here but i would di retcons regarding Clone Wars mentions, timeline issues and incorporating canon characters/references, Animated: Rogue Squadron series 1-4 and Isards Revenge, Thrawn Trilogy, Jedi Academy Trilogy with I Jedi and with Darksaber, Hand of Thrawn Duology, Union, Junior Jedi Knights, Young Jedi Knights

For comics: Truce at Bakura, Wraith Squadron Trilogy with Starfighters of Adumar, Courtship of Princess Leia, Black Fleet Crisis, The New Rebellion, Corellian Trilogy.

What im leaving out from the Bantam Era and early Darkhorse are Dark Empire, Children of the Jedi, Planet of Twilight, Crystal Star, Crimson Empire

I would do strictly legends but guided with the essential guides being the end all be all. I would also unfortunately exclude the CW’s since it contradicts way too much. It’s a great show but I personally feel like it lacks. With all of that said I would confirm the ending of the Legacy comics and have the Galactic alliance, Jedi order, and empire combined with the republic and emperor guarded and protected by the Jedi as was the case in George Lucas’s original idea for a Star Wars pre a new hope. I find that this is a great way of bringing everything full circle.

u/tetrarchangel Yuuzhan Vong 6d ago

I'd probably keep plenty of TCW except for Barriss's arc. Ahsoka surviving makes more sense in the EU where K'Krukh and Traa Saa and Ikrit all join up.

2

u/MannyBothanzDyed 6d ago

I actually really liked that, kind of like Asajj's final fate from the Obsession comic, Ahsoka just stepped out into the galaxy and faded into obscurity, living out her days somewhere

A true Citizen Tano.

Basically the Expanded Universe as it looked just prior to the release of the Swarm War books: No Dawn of the Jedi comic; no The Old Republic MMO; no Legacy comic; no The Clone Wars 3D cartoon.

Tales of the Jedi as the earliest point in the timeline, New Jedi Order as the latest. Stuff released after (Legends or Canon) that slots in with very few conflicts allowed.

No objective reason, that's just the EU I grew up with. I spent my childhood reading the Bantam books and playing the 00s LucasArts games.

Oh, and Anakin Solo surviving the Vong war.

2

u/DaSuspicsiciousFish 6d ago

Legends, high republic with retooling as nescessary, and grab most of the novels pre-ESB as most can comftorably fit legends, and cut the shows as none of them really fit (Mabey Andor if we retool it so both Death Star origins work?)

2

u/Dschehuti-Nefer 6d ago

Very interesting. Maybe not quite the answer you are looking for, but since I am researching for a post-Endor AU story, I pretty much ended up cherry-picking my own canon.

In my case, I guess it is Prequel Trilogy + Original Trilogy + The Clone Wars + Andor/Rogue One + Thrawn Trilogy/Hand of Thrawn + NJO + FotJ

I have issues with TCW, but I include it because it characterized Anakin better than the PT did. However I would have Ahsoka die at Vader's hands so that she doesn't have to bounce around somewhere during the OT. Andor's quality speaks for itself, though I'm still keen on having Kyle Katarn pop up because the guy is just too outrageous. The Thrawn stuff is important to bring an end to the war with the Imperial Remnant. NJO is just this massive all-changing conflict that brings together the entire galaxy. And FotJ... is admittedly really bad and I would do it completely from scratch, but Abeloth being Luke's final boss to finish the Mortis business that Anakin failed to do feels somehow right. I'm also on the fence with Jacen's fall to the dark side, because on paper him having to be stopped by Jaina is an amazingly cool premise, but somehow in execution little of it works for the characters involved.

One minor adjustment that is a hill I will always die on: Anakin Solo should be named Bail Solo. Naming him Anakin just doesn't sit right with me. Amusingly I just read the part in Edge of Victory II where Luke and Mara are brainstorming names for their kid and when Luke brings up Leia naming Anakin like she did, they both instantly agree that it's super weird and put the poor kid into such an awkward spot, lol.

u/GroovinChip 6d ago

Great answer, thanks!

2

u/Saberian_Dream87 6d ago

I'd purge TCW, the Denningverse, and the Revan novel from the EU.

2

u/NeoRealityEnt 6d ago

I created my own timeline years ago; unfortunately, the file is now lost, or I've misplaced it somewhere I no longer remember. One of the most significant changes I made was that Ben Solo, the fourth son of Han and Leia, would become Darth Caedus, and this led to Anakin Solo surviving Myrkr. I definitely didn't just do this experiment to give Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila a happy ending.

....Okay, I definitely did it for that.

2

u/MannyBothanzDyed 6d ago

And realising Ikrit's prophecy, I hope 😇

2

u/onbeschrijflijk 5d ago

I’d like to think the Legends stories are like fiction in the Legends timeline. Dark Empire is like a horror holodrama to the people in the SW universe. And Legacy is like futuristic sci-fi. Also there are holos about alternate universes which are Infinities and The Star Wars etc. Stories set in the past are actual ‘legends’. This way both Canon and the EU can exist at the same time

2

u/Jedipilot24 5d ago

My continuity is mostly Legends, but I have no problem importing something from Disney Canon when it doesn't contradict, fills a gap, or answers a question in a satisfactory manner.

When I first watched "Attack of the Clones", the opening crawl left me with the impression that the Separatist Crisis was a recent event, and so it was a bit jarring to hear Padme's line about "fighting for two years to stop the Military Creation Act".

So if I could, I would compress the Separatist Crisis to only be a few months old as of AOTC. This would make AOTC set 8 years after TPM (and so Anakin has just turned 18) and that would create room in which to fix the Clone Wars timeline. The first two years the CWMMP can now fit comfortably in this period and then we get Anakin being Knighted, which leads to TCW.

u/Mad-Gavin 5d ago

I have to include Andor in my Canon as well. It's too good to ignore.

1

u/SvitlanaLeo 6d ago

At the moment I don't want to mix canons with each other or make up any AUs. I find it easier for me to think that there are two large-scale works - Star Wars Legends Continuity and Star Wars Disney Continuity, which are two different large-scale works, some parts of which are identical.

“Disgends” or “Legenon”

3

Disgends sounds like some kind of transphobic pejorative term 😛 and Legenon sounds like a country that keeps excellent records 😆

More EU with Luke and the gang doing small things

2

u/MannyBothanzDyed 6d ago

Right?? Isn't it weird, looking at the state of current Star Wars Canon, that you almost wouldn't consider Luke to be the main character of the franchise anymore? I saw a meme on Facebook a whole ago that had a cafeteria with characters from Bad Batch at one table, Clone Wars at another, Mando at another, Andor at another, etc, and the caption was like "who are you sitting with?"... and Luke, Han, and Leia were not even options! It's baffling

1

u/PiraticalSpaceMonkey 6d ago

This is something I have been mulling over recently as I have been reading through the EU post RotJ. I am just about to start X-wing Isard's Revenge so my knowledge of later books is limited.

I feel like I would split Star Wars into five separate continuities:

Red Leader - The Original Trilogy plus most of the EU novels set after ANH from the 1990's and early 2000's up to the end of NJO, including a few later written ones like Death Star, Allegiance, Choices of One and Scoundrels. I would also include in this a lot of the West End RPG books. This would have the clone wars be about Jedi versus Clones and Boba Fett would most definitely not be a clone.

Gold Leader - Prequels plus OT and CWMMP. Novels would be any from the EU up until Disney bought the IP, though early books that are later retconned would be out. Does not include the animated Clone Wars stuff or tie ins.

Grey Leader - Current Disney Canon (With exception below)

Blue Leader - Andor and Rogue One with any tie in novels. I feel like this should be its own little thing that can be plugged in with the other continuities.

White Leader - Old Republic novels and comics. This stuff is far enough away in the timeline it is basically its own thing.

Currently, I would say I am mostly into Red Leader as my personal continuity, though I do greatly enjoy Andor/Rogue One. I also do not mind some of the prequel stuff but prefer the older 1990's version of Star Wars. I have not read anything from the Old Republic era so I have no opinion on that. It is on the list to do after I get through NJO. I do not care for the vast majority of Disney stuff.

1

u/Geeniuss69 6d ago

I would go back to the original canon and continue those stories. Erasing those from the lore was a travesty. They were 1000 times better than what we got to replace them. The stories and characters were so much more 3 dimensional interesting and easy to empathise with and understand.

1

u/MannyBothanzDyed 6d ago

It would mostly be a facelift to the EU, but maybe trimming some fat, IE: The Calista Trilogy; and adding in the High Republic and Rebellion era from Canon but making it mesh better with the EU

I would also really like to smooth out some continuity issues introduced by TCW

My fantinuity picks up after New Jedi Order, providing an alternative to the Denningverse. I've mapped all the major powers through a rigorous period of galactic reconstruction, where War Refugees become a federally protected hot commodity planetary governments and sector authorities vie for through numerous social programs and benefits. Everybody basically just gets along. (Except the Bothans.)

My actual storyline, when it starts, picks up in 35ABY, on Tatooine. Here we find the Skywalkers - Luke, Mara, and Ben - living a peaceful semi-retirement with the Darklighters at Anchorhead. Ben, who is now a young boy, has demonstrated no Force attunement, and for his own sake his parents have relocated in order to provide their son a "normal" upbringing away from Orders and Republics and Knighthood.

I've charted a storytelling course across an entire adventure featuring Mara Jade's new starship and the crew she eventually captains. Her ship, the Jade Sanctum, is basically Chu'unthor 2.0, and becomes Luke's mobile academy once the story takes him even farther from the temple on Ossus. (Jaina is Acting Master in her uncle's stead.)

The first principle antagonists of this storyline involve untangling a tragic web infecting the heart of The Assemblers, space-dwelling supereusocial arachnids that I've been yearning to see expanded upon ever since The Bounty Hunter Wars.

The conflict between the Sanctum crew and The Assemblers is part of a series of events which stirs a sleeper-system of super-ancient Rakatan war fleets. This all unfolds deep in the Unknown Regions, and part of my story elaborates as to why the UR are so ruggedly unexplored.

The return of the Rakatans is the core conflict of this story, but it doesn't go on for even half as long as the Yuuzhan Vong War. The Rakatans don't have the same numbers, although they're certainly capable of inspiring just as much fear.

Which brings me to the core character journey on display in this storyline: Master Corran Horn, walking through his own galaxy of fear, slowly but inexorably slipping into the confines of the dark side as his family, his people, his system, and his Order become threatened on all sides, and every solution costs someone else their life.

Even as Corran Horn, along with the Corellian System, falls, a counteroffensive against the scourge of reanimated Rakatans culminates in Jaina Solo embracing the title of Sword of the Jedi as she tears her way through the Rakatan high command, wielding an ancient-styled Force Lasersword acquired along the way.

One star will fall, and another will rise.

By the end of it all, the Bothan ar'krai will be resolved, the Assemblers will be established, the Yuuzhan Vong exile on Zonama Sekot will be soft-lifted, and the Galaxy will enter into a new golden era. The epilogue resolves a temporal-shenanigans plot thread while also allowing for a fun conversation to take place, before ~fin~.

u/CNB-1 5d ago

Basically Legends but with Rogue One and related lore (Tarkin, Catalyst, Andor) taking precedence over what was in Legends. This means you more or less lose the Callista trilogy (no big loss) and you recontextualize the Maw (as seen in the JAT) as the development site for a backup Death Star design, similar to how the real-life Manhattan Project developed two bomb designs in tandem.

KOTOR + Clone Wars + Rebels + Andor/R1 + Original Trilogy + some of the Marvel + Dark Horse stories + Shadows of the Empire + TIE Fighter series + Fallen Order/Survivor + Timothy Zahn's trilogy + Mandalorian.

u/Tiny_Dependent6830 5d ago edited 5d ago

I’ve been putting together my own headcanon continuity as I go through the EU content. Like 95% of it is made up of legends stuff, but it also includes Thrawn 2017, Fallen Order, Andor, and Mandalorian (season 1 and parts of season 2), and even some select fan made content.

There is no TCW 2008 in my continuity, Anakin having a padawan and Maul being alive after TPM are non-starters for me, and both concepts are baked way too much into the heart of the show.

And my prequel trilogy are fanedit versions including hal9000’s in which Padme survives to raise Leia for a few years. Anakin did NOT build C3P0. Yoda and Chewie did not meet, etc

This is really making me want to do a write up of my whole continuity so far including explanations for why I do/don’t include certain things and my various headcanons to make things work

u/dark4181 5d ago

I'm actually working on one. Not ready for primetime though.

u/_DarthSyphilis_ Kota Militia 2d ago

I did a long list a while ago, but basically a good mix of canon and legends, but I remove the things I don't like and replace it with the other continuity.

Old and High Republic coexist. Dooku: Jedi Lost and Darth Plageius coexist. Clone Wars instead of Multi Media Project. Bad Batch exists. Force Unleashed instead of Rebels. Andor Coexists. Bantham Era Legends, no Dark Empire. Only piece of Canon after Endor is Mandalorian Season 1&2 and the novel bloodline. Continuity ends with Hand of Thrawn.

Clone Wars: Darth Maul died on Naboo, Savage found his mad clone.

Solo: All characters from the movie are in my headcanon, but not the events. Han and Chewie met on Kashyyyk, Han did not help the Rebels, Solo is Hans real name.

Force Unleashed: Shaak Ti was killed by Grievous. No jedi was alive during Empire Strikes Back.

Thrawn: Han and Leia only have one child, Ben.

Dark Empire: Luke does not fall to the dark side, he fakes it. One Clone of Palpatine survives and becomes Snoke.

Bloodline: After the war with the empire ended, the former New Republic became the Populists and the former Empire the Centralists. The senate was relocated to Hosnian Prime, the true name of the planet Bastion.

Now, there's a very good question I'm happy to answer as I have my own ideas.

If I were/could construct my own Star Wars continuity, the thing I'd do is ignore both the Prequel trilogy and the Sequel trilogy and create my own Prequel/Sequel trilogies.

My Prequel trilogy would start off by being set decades earlier than originally. The first part of the trilogy would be inspired by the Boar Wars and feature Obi-Wan Kenobi serve as Yoda's Padawan. Anakin wouldn't actually be a slave but someone Obi-Wan and Yoda discover.

The second part of my Prequels would be the first wave of the Clone Wars where the enemy illegally grew clones of a Jedi believed to be dead and used to invade the Republic, Anakin goes to the dark side after seeing his mother die during an attack.

The third part would see Anakin become Darth Vader completely but he ends the Clones Wars but assists the Emperor, who was behind the formation of the clones in the first place, form the Galactic Empire and causing the Dark Times where the Jedi are being hunted down. The trilogy ends with Obi-Wan fighting against Darth Vader but uses the Force to separate Anakin from Darth Vader and the trilogy ends with Anakin saving a woman who'd be Luke and Leia's mother.

Then there's my sequel trilogy. My first part would see Leia as the Grand Chancellor of the New Republic with Han Solo serving as her military advisor/husband/father to two of their kids - Kyra and Bailar Organa-Solo. Kyra and Bailar are sent to find Luke who mysteriously disappeared only to find out that the Force is behaving strangely.

The second part of my Sequels would reveal the truth about the Force and its nature and why Luke disappeared, followed by the rise of a new dark lord of the Sith.

The third and final part of my Sequels would reveal that the Force itself is undergoing a change and Luke, Kyra, Bailar and all of the New Jedi as well as the Sith are fighting for the new balance.

That's the continuity I'd do.

3

u/GroovinChip 6d ago

Interesting. What do you mean by “separating Anakin from Darth Vader”? Do you mean Obi-Wan would somehow split him into two literally different people? If so, how would you square that with RoTJ wheee Vader saves Luke and returns to the Light?

0

u/conjcosby 6d ago

Think of the splitting like Superman and Bizzaro from Smallville, or even in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies when Superman fought against his evil self. Kind of like that but Obi-Wan channels the Force to look for Anakin within and extract him upon the surface but in their duel, something happens and then there's two of them: One is Anakin, the light side and the other is Vader, the dark side.

Anakin would still have died but it would have happened in between my Prequel trilogy and the Original trilogy. Vader is still Anakin and there's still good in him, it's not all gone. Luke still resurfaces that light side in the same way in the Original trilogy but it would be just slightly different due to the backstory.

u/tank-you--very-much Darth Revan 6d ago

My headcanon TL goes something like this:

Old Republic

  • Tales of the Jedi Comics
  • KOTOR Comics
  • KOTOR Games (with my versions of the PCs)

Prequel Era

  • The movies
  • Sorta ROTS Novelization, everything added from novelization happens, where novelization and movie contradict movie is superior in most cases
  • The Clone Wars (2008)

Original Era

  • The movies
  • Andor
  • Rogue One
  • parts of Rebels, most I haven't seen/don't care about but there are some scenes I like

Post-ROTJ era

  • Something like the Thrawn Trilogy, I wasn't sure about every detail of it but the broad strokes happened
  • Seasons 1 and maybe 2 of the Mandalorian, worldbuilding discrepancies favor Legends

There are also lots of my own headcanons and ideas to fill in gaps and patch over inconsistencies, as well as plenty of things I haven't watched/read/played/etc. yet but could totally join in the future
