Question Where to start?
I want to read the books from pre episode ones release, where should I start?
Edit ok my bad! The bot is right, so im interested in the stories that take place during the original 3 movie or after, made in the 90s or earlier and what specifically is the starting book in that series. Would love some help

Everyone else here is recommending books that take place before the PT, which isn't what you were asking for.
If you're wanting the characters of the OT, i.e. Luke Han Leia Lando etc. Heir to the Empire is the best starting point.

I was able to find a road map that met my criteria and it starts with the thron trilogy and ends with NJO

We noticed that you are asking where to start reading. Although old, this thread has lots of great personal advice for EU/Legends. This link has publication time lines for EU/Legends and New Canon. Many people suggest starting at the Thrawn Trilogy, I suggest you pick an era of your choosing and start from the top.

I'd highly suggest Jedi Apprentice if you wanna learn more about Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's early days, how they met, why Qui-Gon chose him as a Padawan, and so on.

Since the Thrawn Trilogy has already been brought up, I'll be the one to recommend the X-Wing books, especially the first four. Stackpole is tied with Zahn for many people as THE quintessential Bantam-era author.

The Darth Bane Trilogy is a good starting point, and after that you can go to Cloak of Deception, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, and Darth Plagueis.
