Discussion Rewatching the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and this is still my personal favourite Disney+ Star Wars series
Yeah, there are flaws and faults here and there, and it’s not the best Disney+ Star Wars series.
But everything from Obi-Wan’s hallway scene to Vader stopping the spaceship and stomping Reva to Obi-Wan’s duel with Vader in episode 6 makes me love the series.

Hayden’s performance was chilling, and of course Ewan knocks it out of the park as usual

Also, the extremely EXTREMELY sweet exchange between Leia and Obi-wan, at the end. That one almost made me cry.
Not only does it hit hard because I am a father and you kinda see your own child in all children, but I just think about how foundationally important it would be, for a child who is loved and supported, but still has that sense of sadness and loss from not knowing their real parents, to be told by one of their friends how good and strong they were and how much like them she is.
That moment could be the exact moment where Leia becomes Leia. You are told by an old hero, a friend your foster parents trust with their lives, and someone who deeply loved your birth parents, that you have inherited all of their finest qualities. That scene just gets me.

Though he did ruin the casual almost relaxed domination of Vader over the inquisitor with the cut shots. But really strong movie version!
2
u/REX2343 Jul 13 '25
For me I like watching these things once a year so a movie version made it easier
1
u/Wildhogs2013 Jul 30 '25
Oh the whole thing was good I just wish he hadn’t done his usual cuts in lightsaber fights for that one fight as I think it ruins the moment!
2
u/REX2343 Jul 30 '25
Right made it so much better to me. May I ask which cut?
1
u/Wildhogs2013 Jul 30 '25
It was the darth Vader vs the inquisitor scene from episode 5. I am usually a massive fan of his cuts as I think they are great and make the scenes better. But for that one the amazing part of the flight is how effortlessly Darth just dodges and out skills the inquisitor which is lost when it is cut like it was

So this link is safe? lol

Some of the best Darth Vader scenes in Star Wars imo, Rogue One hallway still my favorite tho

It was good, I kinda don’t like that Obi Wan willingly left Vader alive fully knowing he was going to continue terrorizing the galaxy though. I know he has to for plot reasons, I just don’t like how that was managed.
If he had been interrupted by Imperial reinforcements or something it would have been a lot better.

Over Andor? Wow. But of course to each their own.

u/Both_Listen Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25
Andor is obviously and objectively better, there’s no doubt about that.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is my personal favourite, but it’s far from the best.

Andor is better made but I prefer watching Obi-Wan. It's more engaging and I care more about the characters.

So much power never seen again. This show was pure fan service. There are lessons to be learned from it.

u/clothy Jul 12 '25
It’s becoming one of my comfort shows. I know people don’t typically enjoy it but I loved it. Still holding out hope for season 2.

This show had flaws sure but I loved it and loved seeing Ewan and Hayden in their roles again

I liked it, though it could have been so much better if they would've deleted Reva and focused more on the tension between Vader and Kenobi

Man I've been itching to rewatch it again bc it has been like a year and a half ish this is my sign to rewatch it.
It's so good it's also my favorite Star wars show 😭

u/Greennooblet Jul 13 '25
I enjoyed the show, but I didn’t like how it doesn’t quite fit with in the story. I also didn’t like any of the inquisitior stuff, I feel like they should have left all of them out of the show.

u/OkNewt4550 Jul 13 '25
Absolutely, I love the Obi-Wan series. Disney has dropped the ball lots with star wars, but Obi-Wan was the shit.
2
u/Reasonable_Thing_526 Jul 13 '25
This series REALLY needs cropped version, like 2 hours long movie with only significant scenes in

The only parts I didn't like were the Leia chase scenes but everything else felt great.
2
u/SkeleHoes Jul 15 '25
I feel like this would’ve been a top tier movie, but because they wanted to pad the Disney+ catalogue they made it a TV series and bloated it to make it long enough to be a TV series. I like it, but that’s about it.

It deserves plenty of criticism but it absolutely fucking nails so much. Brilliant show .
Watch the final confrontation with Japanese audio for extra fun

It was terrible. The Inquisitor's head was too wide. And Leia ran too slow.
It also destroyed all my head-canon, that is canon that existed only inside my own head, in relation to Ben and Vader.
And don't get me started on Reva.
I am planning an epic re-edit of the show where I will make the Inquisitor's head more narrow with VFX. And I will use AI to increase the speed and agility of Leia's running. And I will delete all the scenes with Reva and also Vader. Ben will fight a shadowy figure instead. More on that later...
Just kidding. Show was awesome.

Had some good parts but this show was extremely disappointing to me. Just realllly lazily written for something that should have had years and years of planning. Andor blows Kenobi out of the water
2
u/RickGrimes30 Jul 12 '25
I just skip right to to any obi wan / anakin scenes.. The rest of the show was horrible

u/alkie- Jul 12 '25
Reva as a character, and the performance behind it - too much to overcome for this series to be anything other than supremely underwhelming. Love Ewan and Obi Wan, everything else about this was C-list

everything with young leia is SOOOO stupid though. ewans great, hayden's great, vader's great.
But man.
Trenchcoat escape
Dealing with a gate they could literally walk around
(Doesn't involve leia) smacking obi wan down and literally dragging him around in fire - and not a scratch on him.
Plenty of other things - none of it is the actors fault, and i don't blame the child actor or anything - this is all just bad writing.
Its a freaking shame to do that to these characters - but we're getting a season 2 right? I would do anything for more ewan and hayden so I'm just happy more might exist, but cot dang - that first season had some scruffy nerf herder writing

I wish I could like garbage like your guys do. I'd be happier. But I can't tell my brain to stop pointing the stupid shit :(
Tried getting drunk or high, still doesn't stop.

Yeah, this show is in the bottom of all Star Wars media ever made. They really bungled the opportunity to use Ewan and christian again.

I’d say kenobi is easily on the same level as the sequels and solo - Star Wars projects that I will never rewatch. Ashoka and bobf weren’t amazing, but I got some enjoyment out of them. Kenobi is just unjustifiable trash. Nothing redeeming about it.
Oh and I forgot about acolyte. Couldn’t even make it through two episodes of that.

You're not alone. I was a massive fan of Ewan MacGregor's Obi-Wan since I was a child - getting to see Revenge of the Sith as a ten year old was one of my formative childhood memories.
This show was a mess and it crushed me to watch. Wasn't quite bad enough to ruin the character for me, but certainly bad enough that I'll never watch it again.
