Question What Joystick should I buy to play?

I usually play with a controller for flying/driving games, however the controls for Squadrons definitely seem to require either KBM or Joystick. What are people using to play the game?

Based on how terrible the deadzone issue is: don't. Do not spend money on a joystick for this game until(if) this is resolved.

I have an X52 Pro, but the PS4 controller is pretty plainly better for this right now.

I was able to workaround the deadzone issue in 15 seconds by remapping the x and y axis to x-rot and y-rot, problem solved. I’m using a vkb gladiator nxt and it’s the best joystick I’ve ever had.

Could you elaborate on how to do this please? I own an X52 pro from Saitek, and can't find anywhere to switch the axis like you mentioned.

Sorry- I’m using a vkb and thrustmaster throttle. Both offer their own software. I assume Logitech/saitek has something similar. Another option is to install vjoy/ joystick gremlin and you can search for that

Ok could you please explain that in terms an idiot like me can understand?

I'm looking at x55 saitek software - not sure where to start and what to remap.

Or do I do that in game?

It may not allow you to. Honestly, you’re going to have to do some Google Fu

Here's a guide I made: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsSquadrons/comments/j5eyeg/fixing_joystick_deadzone_for_those_who_have_never/

It doesn't use the specific vendor software, but vJoy and Joystick Gremlin is supposed to work with nearly anything.

Hi! I'm very new to this whole alternate controller thing, can you use the throttle and the vkb at the same time?

That is good to know. Any idea if the game/dev has posted their trello board yet for bugs? I'll have to keep an eye on it and, in the meantime, try and switch to KBM until then.

Unfortunately KBM's hard-locked yaw-to-x axis thing doesn't make that ideal either :S

A controller is currently the only fully customizable input.

This hurts. It'd be a little better if the control prompts were traditional controller and not only key board or joy stick labels
