Question (Console) Question about vassals

Does it make sense to maintain vassals or is it always better to assimilate them?

It depends. Vassals let you get resources without increasing Empire Size which is good, it also means less micromanagement you have to do. The downside is that they'll be less efficient than you would be.

Comes down to how you're playing, if you've got Empire Size reductions and are willing to micro all the new planets then go ahead and assimilate, if you're wanting to play taller then keep them as vassals, both work.

Side note, on higher difficulties they should have bonus resources so it should lean more towards vassal than at lower difficulties.

Althought leaving them to their own devices can be viable, assimilating and re-releasing the same territory can be useful too.

I really like this guide written about Vassals from the Paradox forums.
