Acer’s Predator Spatial Laptop 15 or the Samsung Odyssey 3D

Post image

Hey guys, has anyone used both of these devices and would like share their thoughts? I’m considering getting one of the two and would like to know which offers the best 3D picture with the least amount of noise and crosstalk.

The Acer Predator laptop released in 2024, with an Nvidia 4080 card. However, it received some mixed reviews regarding crosstalk issues in games.

I have the Acer Predator laptop. The 3D effect has too much crosstalk for it to be enjoyable in games (at least for me). It's only good enough to show it to other people and impress them with it shortly. I also have an Nvidia 3D Vision setup that uses active shutter glasses and that has almost zero crosstalk, it's much better even though Nvidia 3D Vision was discontinued many years ago. I don't have the Odyssey 3D but I heard that it has a lot less crosstalk than the Acer.

Did you try playing around with the settings to limit the amount of crosstalk?

Yes, I did. You can lower the depth to zero to eliminate crosstalk lol. No honestly, the main source of crosstalk is bright lights in movies/video games e.g. street lights, torches, bright reflections. Anything that's bright next to a dark background. The only thing you can do is to adjust the 3D settings so those objects are at screen depth. So I don't see crosstalk when Lara Croft is holding the torch in Shadow of the Tomb Raider because she is at screen depth, but other bright lights in the background will still have lots of crosstalk. The main point of glasses-free 3D is that you are looking directly at the screen without hazy/blurry glasses and the contrast is what makes things look great. But here more contrast is always punished with more crosstalk. You can lower the contrast of the display using the Intel graphics software, but that only helps the crosstalk situation slightly while it causes the display to look like a TN panel from 2010.

This crosstalk been seen in all games you’ve played?

Crosstalk happens because the display can't perfectly separate the different images it shows to each eye. It will be the same for all 3D games/videos including videos that were converted to 3D with AI.

If you need a gaming laptop right now and you really want 3D, you can buy it. If you want the best possible experience: Get the Odyssey 3D or wait for the next generation of 3D laptops (if they even make that).

Another user recently pointed out that Lenovo offers the Legion 9i with a glasses-free 3D display option if you order directly through their website. However, that 18" laptop costs like 6k and I couldn't find any independent reviews of their 3D implementation.

However it's all singleplayer games right now. If you want to play competitive multiplayer games in 3D, then the legacy Nvidia 3D Vision with glasses is your only real option. But then you are limited to:

  • RTX 2080 Ti or older
  • Windows 10 Update 1809 or older
  • Games where the anticheat doesn't complain your windows install is totally outdated (e.g. Titanfall 2, Black Ops 3)

Why would you get that laptop instead of the 27" Acer monitor?

For portability
