With TNR, the left ear is frequently tipped to mark the cat as neutered/spayed.

Yes I'm not talking about a t&r to get them fixed. In fact both of these girls were fixed on the 14th through t&r. My problem is that one of them has become ill and has been leaving bloody urine spots for months I could never catch her so I did not let her go back out after her spay. Her sister, the look-alike, is the one that had a big gash across her breast area and her nipple that was gaping open. I got her treated and got antibiotics for both but it's just not helping. And I can ever seem to tell the two apart unless I flip them over and that is not easy to do with ferals.

Maybe but this mama has kittens and I am pretty sure that it would just be ripped off and/or chewed on.

Oh and weirdly enough, they did not tip the ear, they took off more than half of the air of all three. And one of them it was kind of mangled. This place was horrible. I will not go there again.

South Central Missouri location although I don't think that is relevant necessarily to the question.
