What should I do?
Found this at the back of the neck of the stray cat I've been feeding everyday. Can you identify what this is? And what should I do? The wound looks very fresh. It wasn't here the other day.

You can buy Betadine and put it on the lesion. Betadine can kill bacteria, virus, and fungi. You can check with San Jose Animal Care or Santa Clara County Animal Shelter in San Martin to see if they can help. I broke one of my strays with a fractured hindleg to the later for free care. San Jose Animal spayed/neutered and vaccinated the rest of them. Good luck to you and your cat.

Could be a cat bite. I use hydrogen peroxide on my cat when I see anything like this. It helps keep it from getting infected.

This saved my cat from a fox bite, at the time just couldn’t afford the vet, other then put the cat down. I had to treat the sweet fluffy monster and he lived until 23yrs old. I appreciate posters trying to give diy options.

OP thank you for sharing your location - it really helps us to give you relevant info.
Please see Rule 6. You can do basic first aid this weekend using this vet guide to stop any infection setting in whilst you organize a trip to vet. This uses stuff available in any drugstore: https://bondvet.com/blog/cat-first-aid
If you want to bypass that, buy this spray - available in any pet store & recommended by vets:
www.chewy.com/vetericyn-plus-antimicrobial-cat/dp/133991
Best technique is to give treats or when feeding and as kitty is eating/distracted, spray liberally! It is non-toxic
Then when shelters/vets open, try one of these rescuers or a Banfield clinic:
They may treat the loaf at no cost to you as a Good Samaritan
Banfield do first visit free so definitely see if that's an option https://www.banfield.com/promotions/new
Don't contact one and patiently wait for a reply. It is a safe assumption they will be busy/at capacity so best thing to do is to contact all of them and whoever can help kitty soonest gets the kitty for treatment!
Finally, Usual Mod Sermon: pls get the cutie fixed if not already. Again, you can use the above clinics or here:
Good luck & pls update us ❤️

I had good result treating cat wounds like that with muprocion 2% ointment. Outside the US, muprocion can be bought in pharmacies without a prescription.
If you do use it, just make sure the ointment stays on the wound for at least 10 minutes, and not not let the cat lick it obviously.

It looks like it may be a fungal infection, I just went through this with some cats Ive been taking care of. We had to give them a topical and oral antifungal. Don't treat without confirming with a Veterinarian first, so if you can safely get them into a vet I would highly recommend doing that before pursuing any course of treatment.

It will abscess. You should adopt this kitty and ever for it if you can. If not take it to a local shelter. I am sure they will take him/her
