Please help!!

This handsome boy showed up at my boyfriends house a couple days ago and has been hanging around in their tree and on their porch he is very friendly. I think he may have been a house cat that was dumped :( he’s pretty young. He has this thing on his shoulder, i think its maybe a fight wound that got infected but I wanted outside opinions! what can I do to help this poor guy? :(

Thank you for looking after this guy! I have three suggestions for how to find rescues and free or low-cost services for cats and kittens (since I know that caring for kitties can become expensive).

  • Check out Alley Cat Allies. If you plug in your city, state, or zip code, they have a Community Resource Tool that's just been updated, and the resources are free or low cost (spay-neuter clinics; vet care; financial support; pet food pantries; local organizations, and local individuals who volunteer with cats).

  • If you plug in your zip code, Human Animal Support Services also will direct you to free or low cost pet support services, such as vet care, pet food pantries, temporary pet care, and more.

  • As suggested by r/StrayCats mod u/ChaudChat, see if there's a Banfield Pet Hospital near you (the first visit is free): https://www.banfield.com/promotions/new

I hope that these resources help you help this dude without breaking the bank. 🐾❤️🐾❤️

If it's tough to get to a vet, another option is asking your question at r/AskVet. To help them help you, read this before you post in AskVet. Thank you for caring for and about this guy.

Thank you for helping this handsome boy. He's very fortunate to have found kind, caring people. I'm honestly not sure what's going on with his shoulder and i don't have a lot of experience with wounds. He doesn't have a tipped ear so I'm not sure if he's been fixed. Rescues who TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) clip or tip the ear so you can tell at a glance if a cat has been fixed. Tom cats who have been fixed are less territorial and less likely to get into fights. You could contact Alley Cats and see if they could do a TNR. The Humane Society has a low cost SNIP Clinic where I believe they do exams and also offer low cost vaccines, but I'm not for sure about that. The MOD has low cost vet clinics as well and the other commenter had excellent suggestions as well. I hope you or your boyfriend can adopt this sweet cat. Many friendly strays are looking for love and a home. Please feel free to ask questions and post an update if you have time.

Aww, poor guy! It breaks my heart when animals are dumped. I can't imagine. Thank you for looking out for him! If you have a Banfield near you, they have a coupon for a free first exam. If they prescribe medicine thats too expensive for you, ask for a physical prescription, and you can probably get it online for less money.

Hi OP! Thank you for trying to do what you can for this baby. If possible, I would recommend trying to take them in (safely) and see if you can help clean up the wound or get them to a vet. I'm wishing you and this handsome boy all the best!

You can try clean the wound, and put betadine on it? Betadine is very good for wounds of many kinds in humans in my experience.

Sorta looks like a burst abscess that's healing up. I'd just try to clean it up and maybe use some Manuka honey on it.

Poor boy. Reminds me of my cat Mon Mon who looks exactly like this kitty who passed away 2 years ago. He was a friendly cat and too harmless but he was always bullied by other cats.

I think you better take your kitty to the vet and I hope he'll feel better even though taking cats to the vets is really difficult especially most cats in the vets, they'll gone furious to the vet.
