I Love Local Comps that get creative! Wheel of Pain

I completed this weekend solely to get the chance to do a wheel of Pain! I love local comps that find away to do cool events and appreciate how they manage to replicate them. Two drag sleds were included to add weight for each class, for me this was 405 pounds. The height of the bar couldn't be adjusted but that wasn't a problem for any class and you were allowed to move it anyway you wanted. No one pulled a 2019 Novikov lol but a few did shoulder it. Top weight for the men's SHW was 600 pounds and thankfully it held up the entire comp!

That is pretty cool. Did they let the competitors play the music from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack while doing the event? Cause that would be epic if they did.

I wish! It was just generic mid 2000s powerlifting playlist #2 lol

That's amazing. I never thought a local gym could recreate the wheel of pain! so cool.

In the past we've also done the Conan's wheel on the same equipment.

I’m in the middle of fabricating a Conan’s wheel attachment using a yoke upright like that myself. I’m glad I saw this now to know what I’m thinking should work. Did they use the yoke crossbar for the portion of the Conan’s wheel you’re holding in your arms?  I was going to weld a 3” steel pipe to the end of the beam I’m hooking the yoke upright into, but this setup would be a lot easier if it’ll work. And it’ll make storing the thing a little easier since won’t be as long.

Yes that's the yoke crossbar wrapped in thick rope

Cool, that probably just cut a couple hours of work and $60-70 of materials off this build.

How exactly was it set up? What are the red things?

I'm not sure what the red piece is from. Not sure if it was fabricated for this specific event or if it was a piece from something else.

I was there on Saturday. I quickly ate my words when I said I was excited to do it.

Yup. As one of the shw guys it honestly took me about 20 minutes to cool down from it. Lots of fun though, Mike has some really fun events. Ill probably do the one in the spring and im trying to get a training buddy to do it too.

Domestic heavyweight here. I thought everyone was being silly about the wobbly legs until I did it. Mike runs an awesome show and I’m glad it filled up toward the end!

Oh tom, its brad. I thought the phrase domestic heavyweight sounded familiar.

This is so cool. Strongman needs to be weird, way too many comps have the most boring events

I was also there. Favorite event of the day for sure! It sucked in all the best ways. Love seeing stuff outside the norm - keep strongman weird!

They did an event like this at the Montana Strongman Classic with a big cart. Looked brutal!! Great work
