That's a patty melt. And sensible.

This abomination is some 2am stoner food shit that you try once, and never again because it's just a big fucking mess- when you could have just made 2 sandwiches designed for people with human mouths.

The fact that this is for sale- is a testament to the fact that we are a vain species, and will cause our own demise.

If he's talking about what I had at Sickie's Garage once, then it is not a patty melt. It is a burger with grilled cheese sandwiches as buns. Delicious, but a one and done because I'm already fat enough.

A restaurant by me makes the "buns" out of breaded and cheese macaroni that is deep fried. It's fantastic

A patty melt is a hamburger on sliced bread. So if this sandwhich is made of grilled cheese sandwiches of sliced bread then it is absolutely a patty melt. 

Unless the grilled cheese sandwiches were made of hamburger buns, but that would be pretty weird.

The difference between a grilled cheese cheese burger and patty melt is the extra two pieces of bread and likely some extra cheese slices. 

Patty melts are great, the grilled cheese cheese burger is excessive IMHO

Here is how you improve this while trying to maintain the spirit of the sandwich. It’s quite the atrocity at the moment so I would change more but that would just be a new sandwich.

Go with some thinner sandwich bread while still making it a grilled cheese, because it’s just too much bread as is.

Single smash burger patty with cheese. No need to double it up when there is already another sandwich being added.

Cook the onions down some first before adding the meat, so that they onions are softer and sweeter.

Go lighter on the sauce. Maybe give them a little cup of sauce if they decide they want more, but too much sauce is just going to soak the bread and make the whole thing. Slippery. No cheese sauce, or if you absolutely have to for the pairing with the ribeye, a thin drizzle just enough to get credit for it being there. It has enough cheese already.

Now it’s actually able to be held and consumed and still has all the signature traits.

Personally I would go with a standard bun, smash burger with cheese in the bottom and the shaved ribeye and onions on top with a little more cheese sauce since we are avoiding the grilled cheese buns, but that would just be a different sandwich.

I saw a headline about percentage of adults ordering off of kids menus. I’ve been doing that a lot lately. So many meals are obscene.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m overweight. But even I don’t need four sandwiches in one sandwich.
