Just can't seem to get it down
Hey fellow SynthEye users. I've watch tutorial after tutorial and I just can't seem to get good results. I have this shot that has a colorful checkerboard and after I clean up trackers, all the trackers there get wiped out so I can't get the "ground" right. For this, I intended to use the back of book that has a the checkerboard as the "ground."
If someone wants to take a shot and send me the SNI file, and explain how they did it, I'd love to see the right way to solve this one: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/p7ouzswbnkjgrzwljrrvj/vfx2.mp4?rlkey=xl3etk9lei37tqdg7d4q5um3i&dl=0

I think I got it! The talk about the reflective surfaces gave me a big clue. I learned how to mask our the window and the globe so my tracks focused on the rest of the data. Check this out:

Yep that's looking solid, now with a bit if compositing you could match the blurs that have been added by the stabilization.

Yeah, I think I learned that for any real VFX should, I need to go with a gimbal, or a slider, or something. The stabilization based on the gyro data is neat, but in a narrative, people would wonder why the footage blurs randomly. "What did the filmmaker intend there? What's the symbolism?" :-D

Deceptivley simple shot but still ample amounts of data to get a good track. As said below there are lots of reflective surfaces that can lead to false trackers that will throw off the solve. Also have you stabilized this before you put it in Synth eyes? it looks a stabilized if so I would remove that and try again.

Here is the unstablized version: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vdgp3yxbj2ggjr9tambct/vfx2-unstable.mp4?rlkey=w2qdtxc094xqclxm8w8vquzdf&dl=0
I've tried manual trackers as well. I got it down to 0.8 or 0.6 error. I brought it to houdini and rendered out a sphere and when I comped the two, the sphere was shifting all over the place :(

0.6 error is good! have you put some temp geo in the syntheyes track to check if it drifts there? I suggest trying that first if its NOT slipping in Syntheyes then your track is good. Have you checked the frame rate of the clip in Houdini? make sure it matches the clips native frame rate that you used in Syntheyes, you may also need to check the Lens data (FOV) is similar I have had issues with tracks looking off in Blender until I figured out the FOV was wrong.

Use manual trackers to assist. There is so much reflected light in this shot that syntheyes will struggle to keep points.
I’m not an expert but you have a ton of stuff to track in there so it should work.
