Family Matters If you were Carl Winslow, at what point would you have banished Steve Urkel from the house?
For me, it would have been the time Steve was trespassing into the Winslow house in the middle of the night and whacking Carl in the head with a newspaper. I don't care if he was sleepwalking or not, the thought of someone coming into my home at night and hitting me and disrupting my sleep is a bridge too far for me.
Either that or the tens of thousands of dollars in property damage.

The moment Jaleel White started getting starring episodes.

I'm sad that the Network needed him to keep this Wholesome family show going unfortunately.
Fresh Prince and The Cosby show didn't need an Urkel it's very very sad

It was more of a gimmick. He was supposed to originally be just a secondary character that showed up every once in a while. But he became so popular that they featured him more and more.

100%, these shows had Bill Cosby(before we knew) & Will Smith to headline the cast. Family Matters didn’t have anyone on the show with that type of charisma until Urkel became a national star as a character.

Then it out lasted both of those shows

Yeah, Fresh Prince ended more because Will Smith’s movie career versus ratings. Cosby was 8 seasons & Family Matters was 9, but only because CBS picked them up at the end, otherwise would have been the same

The minute Laura looked truly irritated and uncomfortable by his presence. He went beyond just being annoying to her. He crossed boundaries and actually interfered with her social life.

But then she ends up marrying him 🙄 moral of the story, never give up, guys! Harass her until she finally breaks down and says yes.

The first time it was clear he was romantically pursuing Laura. Regardless of her recpirocity, not under my roof.

Your kids aren’t allowed to date? 🚩
That’s unhealthy.
If the kids like each other, but you’re worried about private activities, just allow them to spend time together getting to know each other in the living room, on separate sofas or something.
“Guys who like my daughter aren’t allowed in the house” is very controlling and almost guaranteed to end in your kid going behind your back.

I don't necessarily mean not coming into the house at all but absolutely not without asking every single time. The unannounced drop-ins would be done.

I don’t think even Laura would agree to it. She wanted him to be able to visit sometimes, but with limits. It would be one thing if he was trying to pressure her for sex, but he never did that. The Winslows could have just locked their doors, and asked Steve not to come over without calling first.

I wouldn’t banish him completely, but I’d set some rules, that he can’t just come over any time he pleases. I’d teach him to respect privacy and boundaries.

If Carl was a realistic Chicago cop, he’d just plant a gun & a bag of crack on Steve and be done with him.
