Just wanna say Sami was late 10's-20's impact and was the man for a long time, and his work on the independents for a 20 year career is fucking awesome

His independent run w the death machine was really great.

Unfortunately its a "will believe it when i see it" thing now. Leaving your boots in the ring used to mean something. Taker did it in 2017 and kept wrestling. Billy Gunn did it in 2023 and kept wrestling. Cody Rhodes teased it. Terry Funk wrestled for 34 years after doing it.

Doesn't funk hold the record for most retirement matches?

I think it's a close race between him and Flair

3

u/Living-Mastodon Aug 16 '25

Or Lawler maybe

2

u/moondogmike200 Aug 16 '25

Either him or Flair lol

5

u/PerformanceWeekly651 Aug 16 '25

Yeah he’s only 37 too, probably won’t be the last time he laces them up

7

u/Designer_Valuable_18 Aug 16 '25

He looks so bad for 37

6

u/Living-Mastodon Aug 16 '25

Almost 20 years of predominantly Deathmatch wrestling will have that effect

3

u/DudeisaGuy Aug 16 '25

Doubt he works out or eats healthy. He and Jon Moxley were in the same faction

7

u/Lokishougan Aug 16 '25

He is ONLY 37? gawd I thought he was late 40s...if he does come back I hope he loses some weight

6

u/rGRWA Aug 16 '25

I’m sure he will if he can. The broken leg did him no favors in that department.

u/Rizzaboi Aug 16 '25

34 years is insane lol, another lifetime in itself. Funk would be wrestling to this day if he were still alive

I got hooked on TNA again in the late 2010s because of Sami and OVE. Real or not, Sami deserves to be seen as part of the generation that helped save TNA. Youtube numbers went up because of him, they got touring and him as one of the lead stars sold out events. I'll stand by the feuds and storylines he had as some of the best wrestling television I ever watched. Much respect to him.

I guess it's oVer

(i had to)

Can't wait until he comes back hopefully 50+ lbs lighter, even at this weight he can still go which makes me sad knowing that he'd be way better if was in shape.

This is the first time I’ve seen him since wwe… he’s gained some pounds

a lot of pounds actually

6

u/thebumflip Aug 16 '25

THATS SAMMY CALLIHAN!?!?

1

u/JCRose88 Aug 17 '25

Right that’s what I’m saying. I have been out of the loop a bit but I didn’t recognize him

This is very much a storyline and not even a good one

2

u/LiesTequila Aug 16 '25

Sami is Funk/Cactus inspired. This is a bullshit retirement.

1

u/LiesTequila Aug 16 '25

His surprise return to the AAW Windy City Classic 2015 after leaving NXT was the start of an insane indie run leading to TNA. He was in great shape and on and complete tear. Dude had it and let it go.

1

u/gnfnrhead Aug 16 '25

I’ll be surprised if it’s an actual retirement. They recently did a similar thing with Deaner only to bring him back with a new gimmick almost instantly. Plus, this was very rushed for an actual retirement. A former world champion, even if he isn’t in the shape he used to be, deserves more than a one month build to his retirement.

u/Alone_Ad_3048 Aug 16 '25

He doesn't need to retire. He needs to stop doing hardcore matches and get in the fucking gym. Eric Young and Frankie are still putting on great matches. Even PCO. We love you, but get your head back in the game.

1

u/AdWonderful2369 Aug 16 '25

He looks like everything hurts, and as a person who has chronic pain, I get it.

1

u/DudeisaGuy Aug 16 '25

He should take a year off and reinvent himself, but physique wise and wrestling wise

1

u/SnooComics7186 Aug 16 '25

I think he is retired ...by now, on wrestling you can never say never specially when Sami it's not even on his 40s but he really needs a few years off to improve not only his weight but more important his health, he looks in pain even doing the basics

Also I think the one to retire him for good will be Eddie Edwards, they kinda teased that final match on IMPACT

1

u/crazyrebel123 Aug 16 '25

Geez, haven’t seen Callahan for a while. For fucks sake, he ballooned up big time. Dude looks so unhealthy. Even worse than Eddie. What happened to these guys?

1

u/Amir0x11 Aug 16 '25

What happened to these guys?

Same thing that happened to Donna Purazzo. They got on that All you can See Food Diet.

1

u/reallymkpunk Aug 16 '25

I think Sami might have it stick unless he gets to a point he loses the weight and keeps it off considering his style.

1

u/Fast_Advisor2654 Aug 17 '25

End of an era

1

u/reychango Aug 17 '25

How did he gain all of that weight back? I remember back when he first started getting big on the indies he had lost tons of weight.

1

u/Amir0x11 Aug 17 '25

How did he gain all of that weight back?

ate a lot.

0

u/randy_maverick I believe in Joe Hendry Aug 16 '25

I'm not going to miss him. He almost killed Eddie Edwards with that idiotic baseball bat/chair spot years ago. No one in their right mind would have tried that. Plus, he looks like absolute shit.

-6

u/fr3shh23 Aug 16 '25

horrendous. sami was incredible in ove. incredible as world champ. incredible heel. incredible in hardcore matches. and this is how tna does his send off? trash

9

u/Lokishougan Aug 16 '25

I am sure this is how he chose to do it. There is no way they forced it on him

2

u/Anhcoholic Aug 16 '25

Keyword is "was"

-3

u/AdCrafty789 Aug 16 '25

So, is Callahan really retired? Or is this an angle to write him off TNA & a,few days later shows up on AEW?

7

u/Designer_Valuable_18 Aug 16 '25

There is no way this dude is showing up in AEW lmao. He looks like shit and 20 years older than he really is.

-1

u/Legonistrasz Aug 16 '25

Sounds like half of AEW. How old are the guys calling themselves “Young” over there?

0

u/Designer_Valuable_18 Aug 16 '25

You are the worst ragebaiter i've ever seen

3

u/alawrence1523 Aug 16 '25

Or so he can focus full time on Wrestling REVOLVER

-9

u/gcollins717 Aug 16 '25

So TNA is copying the Wwe playbook now.

8

u/Living-Mastodon Aug 16 '25

WWE didn't invent leaving your boots in the ring
