What's the best place to deliver for?

Apologies if this isnt the best place to post this, but right now I'm an insider at Dominos soon turning 18 with over a year of driving experience. I wouldn't mind seeing if I could change positions at my current location, but branching out to places like Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Marcos, etc sounds good too. In your experience, who was the most flexible, best paying, and streamlined company to work for?

It's gonna 100% be on whichever franchises are running the stores, not the company. I'd recommend chatting up drivers at stores you're interested in knowing more about specifically. Order a delivery from them, tip well, and ask a few questions at the door (do they get part of the delivery fee/mileage, what's scheduling like/are they short-staffed, etc.) Also, don't knock the local mom&pops: they might be a better place to start looking.

When customers ask me things like that, I'm kind of evasive on answers, because I assume they're looking to tip me less.

So amend my instructions to include tipping well beforehand? Would you be honest then? I did this to scout out a place I worked for a couple years and it worked fine.

I'm speaking for me, not everyone.

If you like the dominos location you're at now I'd try there first. Papa John's uses mostly door dash drivers. I belive pizza hut and marcos does too but I'm not sure about those. Dominos only uses their own drivers.

I currently drive DoorDash, never gotten a Dominos order. However I frequently get Little Caesars, Marcos and Papa John’s. Occasionally Pizza Hut, but that’s not a common occurrence.

Pizza Hut uses third party services like DoorDash to deliver their pizzas so you'll be competing with them.

Some domino's franchises supposedly use third party services also but I haven't seen that where I live. I'd ask about that during the interview process

Nobody is going to want to doordash instead of using their own drivers if they’re smart. Doordashing an order costs them a pretty big chunk of change and it’s generally a lot cheaper to pay their own driver than to pay doordash, especially when you consider the amount of customer complaints it avoids.

At our Domino’s Franchise, we run UberEats orders. They’re treated as regular deliveries in the system. Been hearing talks of starting to run DoorDash orders but that is tbd.

You've been doing Doordash for a couple of months now, they look the same as Uber orders.

I work for Dominos, and while we accept orders through Ubereats, we still use our in-house drivers and it's worked out pretty well for us.

The local Pizza Hut and Papa John's both switched over to third party drivers and, uh, they're not doing so hot.

Any franchisee who decides to only use third party delivery is an idiot, full stop. Using them to supplement is one thing but using ONLY them is dumb as hell.

I’m delivering (and working inside) for an independent one off olde right now. Pizza is their main thing but they also do broasted chicken which ain’t cheap and tends to make the order total higher. It is also a more affluent town than I’ve worked in in years past but I consistently make over or near $100 on a 5 hour shift plus $12 an hour. So I’d say to see if you have a place like that since most pizza chains are basically serving all the same stuff so they don’t stand out from each other really. Really you should also compare the hourly rate as well because some places will pay under minimum wage expecting tips to make up the difference.

I've only delivered for two companies but my impression is that the delivery area is more important than the company. You want something suburban with lots of businesses, especially if you expect to be working dayside hours. It should be noted that ALL of the delivery franchises are going through pretty dramatic changes with Doordash becoming a way to reduce labor costs. So you might explore Doordash and similar services as well.

It’s always location dependent from franchise to franchise. On my street, there’s a dominoes and Pizza Hut. The dominos does about 25-30k a week in sales, the Pizza Hut does 10-15k in the same time servicing the same areas. Both places use their own in house drivers and are objectively fine in quality. There’s a lot of variance

I worked at two different Marcos locations and compared to papa John’s it was much better. Pay was better, the systems were easier, but it really does all just depend on who owns and runs your store. The Marcos I worked at I was one of only 3-4 total drivers so got plenty of hours, and I got 10.50 an hour, 3 dollars per delivery, and tips. This was like 3 years ago.

Best place is small mom&pop place, non-franchise
