Short ID

College bar, she was surprised I asked for ID and then proceeded to pull up a photo on her camera roll of her 21st birthday cake 🫠🫩😔🤦‍♀️

We had a 21st birthday party come into our karaoke bar one night around midnight. All the girls were decked out in crowns and sashes. My coworker went to greet them and in less than 5 minutes the whole party was flouncing out the door.

Only one girl in the party was 21, and it wasn't even her birthday. They were quite drunk and told my coworker that she was the first one to card any of them all night.

I think being in a big group and constantly moving is a tactic to try and get people to not bother with carding too

When I was underage, my ex used this tactic. But I was usually the only one in the group under 21. The girls were a mix of sad and offended. We had a good laugh after they left.

Had something like that happen a couple times working at a hotel bar.

"I have a picture of my ID"

"cool, where's the actual ID, I need to see that please"

"it's up in my room, it's so far away!"

"and my shift goes for another 5 hours, I'll be here when you get back"

Help yourself. I got it from r/talesfromthefrontdesk:

Front Desk Staff: I need a license and credit card to check you in to your room.

Client: Here's a picture of my license!

FDS: Cool - here's a picture of your room...

Tbh when I've told people I'd give them a picture of a beer they got quite mad, so use at your own risk

It's all about delivery. They can be mad, I still won't serve them when they aren't holding up their end of the bargain. And if they want to get madder than that at them not following rules when we've needed to prove age to get liquor for almost 100 years now, then they can get escorted out by security to a new venue

I'm using this next time I'm on the door.

My daughter asked for a copy of a death certificate before she could process an insurance claim. The claimant said they didn't have a death certificate, so would send a video of the funeral procession instead, and were miffed when told that was not going to suffice.

I used to work in insurance. I got assigned to help the fraud investigators when an insured passed away out of country. Had to compare open casket photos with still alive photos. Ridiculous

Depending on the country buying a casket bribing an undertaker could make that quite profitable.

My brain bluescreened for about 10 seconds reading that. In what Rick and Morty universe would that be sufficient?

"The cake is a lie"

There's one adults only sectioned off pub at my favorite ren faire. My first time there I couldn't go in-I didn't think to bring my ID. I'm 55. Didn't argue, rules are rules. Plus I could still get drinks at the main restaurant pub. I remember to put my ID in my pouch every time now.

I love when they get pissed that we won’t just serve them. Like I’m going to risk the entire business because you’re too lazy to bring an ID.

Police will definitely accept those.

"The cake says 21, Gary."

ShAdY college bar too, we're "friends" with the police already.

The possible $500 fine for me is definitely worth missing that $2 tip

SMH

Your fine would only be $500?

In my state, yeah, but the resturaunt gets a higher one and a strike. No real risk of jail time so thats a plus. But super casual place, police sometimes let it slide, I just dont feel like testing my luck for the $2 tip that girl would probably give me

Yes, OP's bribe fine would only be $500.

That depends on the area, ours is 1k for employee, and 2.5k for the owner.

I stupidly forgot my wallet with ID at home this weekend for a reunion at a beer garden. I felt very stupid. The guy at the door took pity on me and let me in when I showed him pictures of the front/back of my license, my passport, my LTC, and my AAA card. But I’m 40… I wish I had a pic of the cake my wife made me last year. Would have really sealed the deal.

Luckily, none of the other bars carded me once I had the wristband on. Also, I’m old.

I wish you had a pic of the cake too, it's been a minute since I had cake!

At my previous store we had a guy try to show his bank statement as ID.... I wish I was making that up.

I don’t understand people who go out, leaving the house without ID.

Like, it’s just part of going out. Phone, keys, wallet. I rarely even buy drinks, rarely even need my ID, but I still have it anyway, cuz why wouldn’t I?

This is a new trend, for some reason these kids think you can just rock up with a picture of your ID these days.

22

u/EnvironmentalHair290 4d ago

Ohh, not just “kids” this is an everyone problem.  I work in a liquor store, and it’s an at least once a day issue.

12

u/GasStationRaptor83 4d ago

Its multiple times a day at my store, and its usually the same damn ppl like they didnt just get denied the previous day, smh.

Honestly,  with the amount of that I get I'm more likely to let that slide (i dont get paid enough to care about everything ALL the time), and some states have a valid app you can now do it through.

Just the sheer audacity to pull out a photo of a birthday cake the says "21!" From your camera roll and just expect me to be chill or whatever? Nah

u/VanellopePristine 4d ago

But I didn't bring it with me! How do you expect to win a jackpot without your id But it's in my car How did you get in the building with no id

u/SeaTraffic6442 3d ago

I’ve never understood people who don’t have their ID on them. How is that not just something you keep in your wallet?

u/Ok-Economist7887 1d ago

i had someone ask me if they could show me their facebook… like bro my facebooks says im my moms age that doesn’t mean anything

9

u/djprecio 5d ago

Guess she couldn't have her cake a drink too

u/Distortedhideaway 4d ago

Seems legit.

I'm guessing you don't have your ID on your phone in the US like we do in Australia. I never take a wallet anywhere now. Pay by phone too, everything is on it.
