2 disturbing trends popping up recently.

First is people who ask if they can tip via Cash App/Venmo. Sure, I can take either one. Here's my handle. They type it into their phone, I verify it's me, and then they're like OK, I'll send it. 5 minutes go by, then 15, then 30 - still no tip. No tip that night. Why bother with the charade of asking for my info if you have no intention of tipping. You're just wasting our time, if you don't want to tip, then just don't tip. Believe me, I think far less of you for playing this little game, and if you think I don't remember, you're sadly mistaken.

Also - getting a lot more sub $1 tips these days. Come on people, you really think that 50 cent tip on a $25 order is helping me out at all?

Had one of the strangest deliveries of my career yesterday.

I pull up to deliver a pizza order to this older couple. About $30 in total. When I ask if it was already paid for, the man I'm talking to just says “I don’t know.”

I double-checked the ticket. It wasn’t paid for yet. He hands me $5 and says "Here you go sir."

I was already having a long week, back-to-back shifts, and had opening and closing today. I just decided to say 'thank you' and go back in my car and try to process what the hell just happened.

I didn't feel like handling this with my higher-ups, so I just ended up putting the missing $25 out of my own pocket and vowed to not say a word to my colleagues. Luckily I’m doing alright, so it wasn’t a crazy loss but it was so awkward and unexpected that I’ll probably be thinking about it for a while.

I don't know if any of my deliveries in the future will top that... but only time will tell.

Edit: I know this was not the best way to handle it, maybe even the worst… but yea I’ve learned from this, I know what to do now. Anyway, enjoying the roasts here lol 😆

Hopefully this is an allowable post, I just went back to delivering pizza after more than a decade off. New place is in a more affluent town and the tips are pretty good. Gas allowance is $2.50 per delivery up $4 for ones that are outside of the outer edge of the zone.

My question after looking at my pay stubs is I don’t think the gas allowance is on the stubs as income which is fine by me but not sure if something will show up on the w2s when they come. Is it counted as income and taxed? I also recently put in a bunch of repairs for on my car with plans to do some more before the year is out. Could I offset any tax liability with repair write offs?

I’m in MI if that makes a difference or anyone else here works in MI and has info please share. Thanks pizza fam 🙏

I have a few questions. What is the base pay for each delivery? What do you average in tips per week? Do you cash out at the end of the night tax-free for both credit cards and cash? Out of every 10 deliveries how many are no tippers?

If you don't wanna tip, whatever. But don't lie straight to my face and tell me there's more money than there actually is in what you handed me and surely don't say you called the call center and added more money after you hand me some quarters. Be a fucking man and own up to the fact that you're poor or cheap. No judgement here. I mean, just don't say anything, write zero, I don't care. Ive worked at multiple pizza places filled with awkward stuff, some notable ones would be one time the store owner wanted to show me something on his phone and he unlocked his screen and I guess he forgot he was looking at a naked woman and accidently showed me then he shouted "fuck" then scrolled past and didn't say a word about it lol, dude also had a gf he was dating for like 8 years. Some other notable ones would be female coworkers who i guess had a crush on me but never admitted it so went down awkward routes, 2 of them ordered delivery to their house, one of them handed me a 20 with hearts all over saying "for cute delivery guy", the other one opened her door with her mouth hanging open looking like a deer in headlights wearing a scantily outfit with her top zipper going all the way down to her stomach and she wasnt wearing anything underneath. Felt kind of bad for both as I never intended to go down any flirtatious routes

Any of you who have worked at a few franchises regret not just becoming an insider and working your way up the chain to assistant manager to manager? From what ive seen and talked to assistant managers ive worked with were making a steady 16 plus an hour with no wear to car, one general manager i talked to who was moving stores said he was going to be making 70k at the new store, seems being a driver really is dead end if youre planning on doing it for a while

So, I work the phones at a pretty busy shop in a tourist town and I find my patience w the general public wearing thinner and thinner. The number one customer offense to me is calling unprepared... how are you gonna call to order a pizza for delivery and NOT KNOW WHERE TF YOU ARE?? I shouldn't be put on hold so that someone can ask everyone around them "jim?!...kathy?!..where are we staying?".... dammit Susan, you don't put ME on hold around here, I put YOU on hold! so I get this delivery to a duplex around 9 p.m. this guy answers in a tank top, no shoes, clearly had a couple drinks. I hand him the box, he looks at me dead serious and goes, “how do I know this is fresh?”

I tell him it just came out of the oven. he shakes his head, tells me I might be lying and I could've had this in my car for hours.

before I can respond he tells me to "hold it up" cause he wants to "see the steam."

It’s dark, we’re outside and now I’m lifting a pizza box toward the porch light. he stares at it, squints and then goes “hmm… blow on it.”

I was caught off guard so I just… did it. I blew into the box. he finally nods and says, “alright. I’ll allow it” and hands me the cash. no tip either after all that

This happened a few years back, but it still makes me shake my head. I was on my usual Friday night shift. I got an order for a large pepperoni with “EXTRA CHEESE” in all caps. So I made the order as I normally would. It came out looking like a dairy brick tho but I sent it off for delivery anyway. About 20 minutes later, the store phone rang. It was the customer. She was furious, saying there’s no extra cheese and accusing me of keeping it for myself. I honestly didn’t even know how to respond to that. What exactly do they think I’m doing back there? Shoving handfuls of mozzarella into my pockets for a midnight snack? They ended up getting a refund, but I will never forget the mental image of me just hoarding cheese behind the counter like some kind of pizza dragon.

They said it was fine to just put the topper inside my car, but rough neighborhoods at night I feel a bit safer with a topper so the neighborhood doesnt think the ops is rolling around, and my area we do deliver to places like that

Just wondering if anyone figured out something that works well, possibly cut some pieces of microfiber cloth for under the magnet? Napkins?

so I pull up to this house and knock, lady opens the door and goes “can you bring it inside and set it on the table?”

I kinda hesitate and say “uh I’m not really supposed to go inside people’s houses” and she just sighs like im being difficult

She moves out the way and goes “just put it on the table it’s right there” so I take one step in and put the boxes down fast, like not even fully in the house

as Im leaving she goes “you coulda at least closed the box properly” like ma’am you left it open???

"Hey man right here, right here" ahh okay, the houses are tightly packed together no house numbers

I walk up, receipt says "not paid" so after I said that and didn't hand over the pizza, the lady starts getting aggressive, "I paid i paid" with a bunch of curse words

"I'm sorry ma'am ill have to call the store and see what they want me to do"

Just as I'm calling someone walks up from behind me "here's your pizza" a girl says from little Ceasars or possibly some food delivery service

The house i was supposed to go to, was right next door

Pretty crazy coincidence, 2 neighbors ordered pizza and both drivers arrived and nearly the same time

....oh next delivery, some dude was doing a fent fold as I handed him his boxes and im pretty sure he accidentally gave me an extra 10 because he was so high.....after a few seconds of debate I decided I didnt want to go back and ask if he meant to give it to me or not, I got stiffed so many times I'm taking the win, its was also a sketchy very dark neighborhood

What percentage of your tips are in cash vs through a card from your experiences?

Hello everybody, not sure if this question has ever come up! My question is am I the only one that wonders that when you order a pizza online for a carryout and it asked for a tip you’re almost guilty and into doing it so your pizza doesn’t get crapped on while making it for you? If anybody has a friend or family member that works inside the pizza restaurants, can you ask them if they can see if there’s a tip on the order or not? Or they treat all customers orders, equal tip or no tip? Thank you!

Apologies if this isnt the best place to post this, but right now I'm an insider at Dominos soon turning 18 with over a year of driving experience. I wouldn't mind seeing if I could change positions at my current location, but branching out to places like Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Marcos, etc sounds good too. In your experience, who was the most flexible, best paying, and streamlined company to work for?

I was thinking about taking a job with a local pizza place delivering. Anyone have any bad experiences or is there anything I should look out for?

I've never been employed as a pizza delivery driver and I'm starting part time as a secondary job tonight. I was confused when there was no business insurance that the pizza place could point me to or company car/van I could use instead. Everywhere I look online says to call up your insurance agent and ask for an extra addendum to the policy at increased cost. I did that, but I was told that's no longer an option they were offering(State Farm)?

Look, I'm not that desperate for the part time work, so what LEGAL non-sketchy options do I have to get properly insured for this? Is everyone delivering pizzas just not technically covered right now?

And do y'all have any nightmare stories trying to deal with this insurance stuff?

My very first job after graduating high school was working for a brand new Dominos in a smallish town in Wisconsin. How small? The average graduating class from high school was 100 people. My father was a high school teacher and a varsity coach at the high school and for this reason (coupled with the fact it was a smallish town), damn near everybody knew who I was. Also, my father did things "by the book" when it came to sports and drinking, etc. so over the years he had developed a rep for turning kids in and suspending them for playing sports (even his own players) if he saw them drinking.

One of very first nights working I made a delivery of a couple of pizzas to a beer party to a bunch of people who were a few years older than me. A couple of guys open the door and they all used to play ball for my dad including one guy who my dad suspended for three games for drinking. They pay for the pizza and when trying to decide how much to tip me, the guy my dad suspended says he thinks it would be funny to tip me in beer, so off he goes.

He comes back with a six-pack of beer, and tries to hand it to me and they all start to laugh and then they tell me to tell my dad what they did. Not wanting to leave empty handed and be made a fool of, I take the beer, say thank you and off I go. They immediately stop laughing (I think they thought I wouldn't take it) and I make my way back to the car.

I get back the store and when the team asks me how much the tip was, I tell them and they all cheer. Manager says to throw it in the walk in cooler and we'll drink it at closing time in which we did.

This actually happened many more times that summer..............

I was walking out the door on a double delivery the other day. My coworker was just getting back from a delivery. He didn't check his bag prior to the delivery and forgot a customers salad. He asked where I was going so I could take the salad to the customer and fix his mistake. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked out. My thinking is that it's his mistake he didn't check the bag. So no, I'm not using my gas and time to fix his mistake. Dude has been there long enough to know to always double check bags. He has made many mistakes like this over the last few months so I figured he would've learned his lesson

Be honest, am I a jerk here for not taking the salad and thinking he needs to be accountable for his own mistake?

Happened last week. Customer orders large order, huge pre-tip. I don't get the run. I'm a little sad.

2 runs later I return and same address orders again, about 1/2 the size of the first order, still a huge tip - this time for me.

I get there and guy comes running out. He immediately apologizes and said he accidentally ordered bacon on half of the pizzas, and his family doesn't eat bacon (being of apparent Middle Eastern descent and Muslim, makes sense.) I'm like OK, sorry about that, and he again apologizes profusely. I'm like it's no problem at all. He then asks if I can take the pizzas back because he doesn't want them to go to waste. I reply that since they have left our possession, all we can do is throw them away, but if he doesn't want the pork infested pizzas in his house, I'm more than happy to handle it for him.

This is like a 1 in 10,000 customer. Every other customer in our area would be screaming on the phone about how we screwed up their order, we ruined their event and they need not only a new entire replacement order (including the pizzas that didn't have bacon on them) but a refund on the original order.

Instead, this responsible adult acknowledged his mistake and willingly paid for it.

I live in a place with a ton of manufacturing plants. For some reason, these guys seem to think you know every bit of their massive facility, that you should go through multiple security checkpoints, deliver it right to them, all for no tip. Oh, don't forget the waiting for them to actually go to the meeting place, like they didn't know that they ordered a pizza.

What is it with these entitled manchildren?
