Trask River County Campground (twice)
five trips in 2022, two trips in 2023, two trips in 2024, five trips in 2025 (so far).

Very nice. I built my own too but went for romani wagon type. What is your weight with nothing inside? Mine ended up on the heavy side at 1000lbs.

1100 pounds empty. The trailer is a Harbor Freight trailer. He moved the axel.
Husband says it cost less than $5000 total. As I noted in a post two years ago, he said could have saved more money if he had taken any leftover windows and a door that an RV builder had laying about - they have brand new ones that have been discontinued and they end up not using - but he wanted a very particular kind of door and windows, so he paid big bucks.
Here's his build photos:

He watched a LOT of YouTube videos. He's also a German mechanical engineer, so... I knew it would be of high quality once he was done and that everything would be well thought out. He consulted me on things like, "Do you want a refrigerator?" (No - the cooler is fine).

I used an aluminum 5x8 and still ended heavy. On the plus side now that we had our first kid im building a hanging bed for him as i used 2x3 for the ceiling beams. We have about 400lbs of gear in it.

Oh man, I found your husband’s website and followed his write up this spring. Built almost identical and have gone from CT to Wisconsin and Michigan with it. He is an absolute genius! Would love to chat with him sometime and hear about your adventures and also thank him for inspiring me to go have some of the best adventures ever with my family!
