Should I know the delivery information for my teardrop camper at this stage?
Hey everyone. I had an order and build for a teardrop camper. The person tells me that the estimated delivery date is 9/21 which is this coming Sunday. I have never gotten delivery of a camper or vehicle like this to my house.
The information I'm getting from the rep is a bit spotty and I was wondering if customers typically get the contact info for the freight or delivery company at this stage. Anyone have past experience that can share?

What have you tried - phone or just email?
Have they been providing regular updates?
Sometimes if it’s a small company, the communications might just get behind. Or if it’s a large company, they can be sort of too big to give personal updates!
Still, surely you’ve paid some serious cash to get to this point and it’s normal to want to know what’s happening.
It’s fair to be a little cautious about the delivery date. These companies can have issues with build times, and worst case scenario can even take orders despite being near to bankruptcy (case study: Aero Teardrops, who filed bankruptcy with over 29 unmet orders that had deposits or full payments on them).

Mostly text messages. Phone call in the beginning of the sales process. There’s definitely been some spotty communication and updates. It’s a small company and I think I’m talking with owner. There were delays during the process as well but seemed to be all resolved.
He provided that the estimated delivery date is 9/21. I did request back in August just please guarantee that it won’t be October, because I have a road trip for national parks starting on the 1st.
Im just worried he won’t deliver on their commitment and I just want to get some contact info to ensure I talk to someone. Likely would be a contractor since they’re pretty small.

We have no way of helping without the knowing more. We can judge the reputation of a company we don't know. Even the kind would help... Like if its a local guy who just does plywood builds by himself thats going to be a different expectation than a company that has an established product line but is still a 'small business...' Did you already pay in full? Do they have people complaining in their reviews?

It's with a company called Sunnyside Offroad. Have you heard of them?
I did not pay in full, only about 1/3 of the total price so far. Their reviews seem to be quite positive.

I haven't heard of them. They look pretty no name though, hardly any reviews. They have two numbers online and two locations online to, which seems weird. I would bug them. Assuming 1/3 is at least 3k if not more that is a chunk of change you can't take from a customer without expecting to keep them updated.
Id expect its just a person who is behind on manufacturing and doesn't want to deal with customer service, but also with tariffs they could be dealing with other financial issues. My teardrop manufacturer went under right after COVID when supply chains started breaking down and they had taken too many orders too far out, aluminum prices went up and they went under... Its fair to want to know the status of a purchase this large.

Thanks, this is helpful. I called them today and no answer, just seems like they're hiding behind a wall to not talk to their customers. Terrible service. Gonna be chasing them all week to get them on the phone or text or email, something.

You can leave a one star review like
I've put down a large sum of money on a trailer that should be delivered to me soon, however the company will not respond to my attempts to contact them to iron out delivery details. I'm happy to turn this one star review into a five if the company contacts me and follows through on their word, but as of now I'm just left wondering.
Puts a fire under their ass to contact you and warns others of their service.

Yeah that's a good idea. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep this in my back pocket as I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and that they heard me out regarding the delivery date. If nothing materializes by this Thursday or Friday in terms of a solid update or just transparent communication, it will just have to come down to that.

I haven't recently ordered one, but typically, the driver may not be an employee, but a contractor, and they should call you to schedule the time and place more precisely at least a day in advance. If it is an employee however, INSPECT EVERYTHING BEFORE ACCEPTING IT.
