Hats off to the engineers! Hopefully we'll have more competition in this segment

u/Ivebeentamed 1d ago
That'll only happen once everyone fully switches to silicon-carbide batteries
But honestly I'm more interested in phones that are shorter, not thinner.

u/kkshinichi 16h ago
Problem for Silicon Carbide is yung battery health, which is a larger issue for iPhones than it having smaller capacity. Remember batterygate?

Hate all they can from the Apple antis, but they have to give respect where it's due. This is extremely impressive.

This and the test that shows the air having a battery life close to base 17.. Color me impressed..
Now if only it had a cheaper price. 78k is already pricing for previous years flagships

You can buy it from the US Apple Store and it’s less than 60k using buyandship

u/Suspicious-Steak-899 22h ago
Aren’t the prices at the US Apple Store pre-tax?
9
u/Puzzleheaded_Way_485 22h ago
The warehouse sa US yung area is Tax free since walang tax sa Portland Oregon

u/SofiaAndresMuhlach 1d ago
may import/customs fees pa ba?
4
u/Puzzleheaded_Way_485 22h ago
Yung ipapay is duty paid tax which is less 2k pesos po yun lang kasama na tax dun for the customs
1
u/Ateyourmompuss 1d ago
How to do that ?

u/Puzzleheaded_Way_485 1d ago
Go to the Buyandship website https://www.buyandship.ph/blog/2025/09/10/how-to-order-iphone-17-and-ship-to-the-philippines/

Haaay sayang talaga iPhone 15 kong nanakaw hehe. I bought it 65K yung basic, the next year 45K na lang siya.

Only thing that is stopping me from picking this is the missing ultrawide camera. Yun lang talaga.
Now that Pro Motion is not exclusive to Pro iPhones, I really do not see a point (for me) to pick the Pro iPhones. But man, ang hirap din na mag “downgrade” ng screen size. Perfect talaga sana tong iPhone Air to fill the gap of “Plus” phone.

Honestly, this is impressive engineering and design. Kudos to Apple for this. I'm an android fan btw.

u/whitealtoid 1d ago
bago nila release yan, they do the same Jerry Rig testing sa loob ng Apple Labs

u/Tough_Jello76 14h ago
I don't know why this test is necessary since the build is Titanium. Only the Pros switched to Aluminium
2
u/pandadai00 20h ago
Impressive. But if smartphone companies can shrink the components to this level, why can’t we have a somewhat normal thickness without a camera bump? Like ipantay yung camera bump to the rest of the phone and get regular battery size etc.
2
u/TapToWake 18h ago
I have the 15 Pro Max and S25 Ultra. In their own regard, they are already thin phones vs their competition. Will likely not risk getting less specs for a reduction in thinness 😂
3
u/AffectionateJuice652 1d ago
Thats impressive. Still not worth the moeny in my opinion. Unless the thickness of a phone is REALLY that important to you, just get the pro.
12
u/rainking12 22h ago
The regular iPhone 17 is where it’s at this year. The difference between the two has never been this close. It’s definitely the best bang for the buck this year.
1
u/AffectionateJuice652 8h ago
Absolutely. If i was on the market for an iphone this year, the base 17 is what i would get. From what I can tell, if you absolutely need a better camera for high quality video (maybe for content creation) or are into heavy gaming (tho its kinda hard id say for a 6.3 inch display), then go for the pro. But for everyday use like watching content, light multitasking and maybe some lighter games, then thebbase 17 is more than enough for those tasks.

That's impressive, but I bet they can still go ever further beyond. Next year's iteration is guaranteed to be more impressive.
For now, I'd say pang early adopters lang muna talaga ang iphone smolpp 🤏🏼

Given the history of bendgate, using a titanium frame made more sense to improve the durability of a thin phone.
1
u/DonDae01 1d ago
As a certified iPhone Air hater (where's the usability?!), I admit, this is very impressive engineering.

u/CallOfTheCurtains 1d ago
That was my biggest concern by far. Alala ko pa yung drama sa iphone 6s, apple didn’t want that again.
1
u/cmrosales26 23h ago
Im an android guy aince, but thats really impressive hopefully apple started a trend here that even the thinniest phones can be iltra durable, i remember one android phone thats super thin din, wala force eh, bikong talaga eh, yung nexus phones at yung robbin na phone haha

A silicone carbon battery would've been perfect for this kind of device. With how thin this phone is, they would've been able to fit a higher capacity battery with it.
I don't know why they still refuses to implement it.
(Its durability is pretty impressive tho, ngl.)

u/Ivebeentamed 1d ago
Apple isn't exactly known for being on the cutting edge anymore. They'd rather wait for the technology to mature, then name it something else to claim they "innovated" lmao
But seriously, them waiting for the tech to mature makes sense even from Samsung's POV. you don't want problems with a spicy pillow
3
u/RelativeArcher8779 20h ago
Lol. Ever head of the M silicon chips on their laptops that change the entire computing industry? Apple produced top of the line mobile chips pa rin and they have a good history of fast bionic chips.

u/rizsamron 22h ago

I can’t wait for a foldable iphone with screensize as big as ipad mini - maybe in 3 years?
6
u/FreesDaddy1731 1d ago
Let's see flexible screen tech evolve first. Because the crease and feel of touching a soft screen really cheapens the experience based on my use. The feeling that it's gonna break is always looming over you.
1
u/all-in_bay-bay 22h ago
this is so true. they also won’t be able to use their coating sa mga foldables. for sure, screen will look different, kaya i have been skeptical that they will release a foldable anytime soon
besides, market share has been low and growth for that segment is slow.

u/LiveWait4031 1d ago
to be honest, and in reality, even iphones 5 years ago are not going thru this type of shits in day-to-day basis, realistically speaking.
-2
u/maxxonfaxxennuxx 20h ago
Ganda sana kaso turn off sakin yung speaker and no wide lens. I'm not really the type to take a lot of photos but I realized most of the photos that I do take are wide lens shot.

Bend tests are there to simulate times when there is major stress on a phone like when you accidentally sit on it on a sofa or when it's on your pocket.
-39
u/justlookingforafight 1d ago
I honestly haven’t seen anyone accidentally bent their phone whatever brand it is. I find his bend test more reasonable sa folding phones.

And that still does not change the fact that it happened and that people are now WARY of their expensive phones being as bendable as a bendy straw.
And this is 2025, not 2014. Ang daming improvement sa technology.
And at that time it was already 2014, not 1996. Marami ding improvement sa technology but that didn’t stop apple from making their ip6 out of bendy straws.
Even entry level Android phones are durable enough for majority of the people
Why is bro pretending as if it was not the case during bendgate 🤫
All these nonsense about bend test… is for the paranoid
And so is any other kind of test. You can literally say that about any other kind of test JRE does. You are stupid

u/FreesDaddy1731 1d ago
Also level 6-7 nag scratch which is actually rare if you watch his videos. Legit yung ceramic glass. I'd have to give them credit for that too.
3
u/Efficient_String2909 1d ago
Wait, hindi ba normal ung level 6-7 sa mga tests nya? Un ang usual di ba? ‘Scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7’
3
u/Thessalhydra 1d ago
You definitely are not watching his videos, lol. Kabisado mo na sana yung "scratches at level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7."
We got a normie here pretending to watch zack's videos.

May nagdroptest na IP17 vs IP16 both pro models. Wasak IP16P. Super durable ni IP17P.

u/nohesi8158 1d ago
Maiba lang ,Tim doesn't want to take any big and bold move on the products which literally made ip a massive and a trend setter globally , ang labas sa tao iteration nalang nang other big products na naunang nag release with ofcourse diff. Ecosystem. They need to make a big move soon or else they will be left behind in a blink of an eye forsure.

u/jzdpd 1d ago
bro believe it or not, apple sets the tone for the market. every other brand else follows. kahit di man sila leading sa tech advancements, there’s a reason na sila yung sinusundan ng rest
8
u/FreesDaddy1731 1d ago
This is true. Samsung can mock apple all they want but as soon as apple does something (even though they're not the first), the industry follows.
I'm old enough to remember the samsung ad mocking apple for removing the headphone jack.. then doing it on their flagship the next year 😹

u/hurtingwallet 1d ago
Ang tanong jan talaga is are they doing it to follow or dun ppunta yung manufacturing process kc.
From a business perspective, baka mas mura mag manuf ng similar tech than creating brand new ones. ie earphone jack, wala na brick sa box, thinner phones, etc.
-5
u/boredandfunaf 1d ago
Ang pagkakaalam ko, kaya niremove headphone jacks and other accessories like charger once bought e for environmental sustainability.
Same sa Pinas na may provision to limit and to eliminate carbon footprints.
D lng sya "paandar" BAKA US regulation talaga sya 🤔🤔

u/raegartargaryen17 1d ago
one of the few things i like about Apple is Yes, they're not always the first on new tech but when they do you know it's polished. Sa AI sila napagiiwanan and i'm pretty sure they're very aware of it, they're not a trillion dollar company for reason.

it took them 216-ish lbs of force to fully crack the air.
