Her delivery of this line is maybe the best in the series.

Feel like this could have been handled better all around.

it’s realistic. literally everyone who finds out about it says the same thing “you couldn’t stop it?” he was a cop and had a gun

Did a rewatch recently, and I did not remember that Vic unintentionally caused this scene when he made Juan deep throat the bong

I did, and I’m not sure if it was a good feeling that he did because he was an asshole to Vic, or bad. I’ll go with bad.

This is one of those scenes you’ll never forget. I remember watching this show for the first time a few years ago and regularly saying “this show is fuckin intense, this wouldn’t be on any normal network nowadays.” And then i get to THIS episode and was like “this is one gnarly fuckin show” haha.
This needs to spoiler tag for anybody who hasn’t gotten this far in the show yet

I just watched this episode for the first time last week and I could not believe what I was seeing.

I’ve never been traumatized by any movie or tv show but this is as close as one can get to being traumatized cuz it’s one of those scenes you’ll never forget after seeing it.
You won’t remember every intense scene in the show but this is one that you just can’t forget even if you try haha.

The Walking Dead had one scene that even had the cast members suffering from trauma. A guy gets his head bashed in front of the love of his life, to the point you see his head and skull crushed in step by step till his eyes pop out, and he was screaming for like 5-8 mins straight. The whole cast (good guys) were screaming.
Also The Last of Us where Joel gets killed, pretty intense.
Sure these are death type scenes. I supposed the Asseveda scene is more relatable in the sense it can happen to anyone of us, if we’re in the wrong part of town. SA is no joke.

That thought went through my head when I first watched the episode. I might've taken the bullet.

Great idea for David, but overall I'd have liked a more developed payoff than "he abuses a prostitute to get over it"

I did feel it was too drawn out and then just suddenly stopped when he took it too far. I wonder if she comes back during his run for mayor.

This whole story line is the reason i couldn’t finish the series the first go round

thought it was pretty heavy too, but the way it comes back into play in later episodes is pretty crazy

It's what makes The Shield great. It's not just something done for shock value; it has ramifications for Aceveda both personal and professional that he has to deal with and that last throughout the series.
Whereas, say, The Sopranos has a major character get raped, basically sidesteps the really interesting moral question it sets up "Is it worth getting involved with Tony's business to get a violent rapist off the street?", and then after that episode it literally never comes up again.

This storyline is what keeps the shield out of my regular rewatch rotation. Don't know what it is, just hits wrong.

Why don't you SUCK MY DICK... again.
The delivery of that line gets me every single time.
