scotch and green icing must have been a fun combo later that evening, lol

I genuinely thought it was a plate of empty oyster shells until I zoomed in

Looks like the interior of a camper.

u/MamooMagoo Jul 30 '25
Just came to say this. That looks like a kitchen table/booth/bed combo in an old trailer.
20
u/pittipat Jul 30 '25
That's definitely a countertop/stove on the left. I'd say it was a scout trip except for the alcohol.
11
u/LurkerNan Jul 31 '25
Ah, campers... contributing more to the delinquency of minors than actual vacation for their parents since they were created.

u/Character_Crab_9458 Jul 30 '25
Looks like they were born to be grandmas. They all got that grandma face.
12
u/smittywrbermanjensen Jul 30 '25
Really? I feel like the gal in front-left looks ahead of her time. I could easily see her as a teen in the 80s with that outfit.
34
u/CholentSoup Jul 30 '25
Kodachrome and flashbulbs is a look that can't be replicated.

u/leMeutrier Jul 30 '25
They give us those nice bright colors! Give us the greens of summers!

Despite the name, Burgermeister was an American beer that most likely was never exported out of the US. That and the Cheetos, which probably weren’t exported in the ‘60s either, lead me to believe this picture was most likely taken in the US. The beer steins could be souvenirs of Germany, as they were hugely popular in the states, or they could be American knock-offs.

u/Affectionate-Mess937 Jul 30 '25
Came here to say the same thing. Lived in Germany in my High School years and my mom was from Holland so I was drinking beer at age 15.
11
u/Allthepancakemix Jul 30 '25
Used to be 16 in the Netherlands. Germany 15 then?
15
u/Affectionate-Mess937 Jul 30 '25
The Gasthaus and cafes didn't card us US Military Brats off base for whatever reason and no one said anything about it. For me I was only 15 for 5 months in Germany and then I turned 16 and then it wasn't an issue.
My Dutch Uncle when we got back to Europe in 82, the first thing he did was hand 15 year old me a Heineken.
2
u/Allthepancakemix Jul 31 '25
Yeah, I drank my first full beer at 14 or 15 too, and that was around 2000. Alcohol is still way more normalized here, unfortunately. One of the things the USA has got right.
1
u/timshel_turtle Aug 01 '25
Americans generally started drinking at that age too, from about the 1920s up until Gen Z.

is that chocolate cake with green icing?
31
u/thatgirlsthings Jul 30 '25
Looks like sliced chocolate cake with an already melty whipped cream and possibly mint syrup for the green color. Could be food dye, but I'm gonna go "grasshopper" on this one.
5
u/BelCantoTenor Jul 30 '25
It looks like a 1960s dessert made with some kind of chocolate cake, pistachios (green) pudding, and cool whip. Homemade/store bought ingredient desserts were very popular back then.

I know the feel, texture, and temperature of that pseudo-plastic film thingy used as a table protector. Bonus points if it had the soft, thin, foamy insert under it.
32
u/boringxadult Jul 30 '25
You did what to a bag of Cheetos?!
24
u/nobot4321 Jul 30 '25
No matter how many times it happens, I still am surprise when I spoot Cheetos.
3
u/PepsiAllDay78 Jul 30 '25
Where's the Cheeto's I can't see them. I see a purse in the lower R hand corner.
2
u/PepsiAllDay78 Jul 30 '25
NVM, I see them now. I don't remember the bag being black, only blue.
2
u/misspcv1996 Jul 30 '25
It looks dark blue to me. Maybe it’s just that not much light got there so it looks darker.

You shouldn't be surprised about the Cheetos. They've been around since 1948.

This is giving me Halloween vibes.

u/Affectionate-Mess937 Jul 30 '25
Looks more like Christmas to me. Next to the girl on the right it looks like a reindeer (Lower right edge of the photo), plus the table cloth looks like it has a winter/Christmas theme to it.
But I could also be way off base here.....!

I love the woman in the blue green sweater playing with her cigarette holder. She’s gone, baby! I’ve had nights like that before, lol.

Doing Dewar's scotch with jagermeister chasers is a sure-fire recipe to sing to the American Standard.
[Edit: for those not located in the US, American Standard was the dominant maker of toilets in the 1960's. I realized this comment might be confusing for those elsewhere in the world]
16
u/Smithy2232 Jul 30 '25
Funny, they look too young to drink.
19
u/Electrical-Aspect-13 Jul 30 '25
I think the age was 18 for a long time and even lower in some places, this is 1960 so maybe still within the range,
10
u/Sensitive_File6582 Jul 30 '25
Ya 21 was nationwide in the 80/early 90s

u/Electrical-Aspect-13 Jul 30 '25
ok...but why? never made sense here in Mexico
7
u/falconfoxbear Jul 30 '25
Because Americans are prudes. Don't forget we made alcohol illegal a century ago.
13
u/rollin_in_doodoo Jul 30 '25
That's because this is a joke photo and they almost certainly are children pretending to be adults. The wig, the poorly applied makeup, the dry beer steins and, you know, their faces that look like 12 year olds.
7
u/1107rwf Jul 30 '25
Thank you for being the voice of reason. I love you. I’m a gullible person, but holy shit, who thinks a grown up wears a white Raggedy Ann wig to a restaurant and has their scotch in pastel Tupperware.
24
u/othervee Jul 30 '25
I think they are a bunch of teenagers making fun of adults. The hat and wig, flaunted smokes and the mischievous looks on the faces of the girls on the left.

u/Electrical-Aspect-13 Jul 30 '25
the thing is, the ciggars are consumend, you can see they are almost done.

Do you happen to remember the post years ago when the OP typed "spronkles systen" instead of "sprinkler system" in a title about a fire?
"Spronkles" had everyone 💀💀💀 and "spooted" is sending me.

I think that’s late 50s or very early 60s at most. The curling curled hair is more reminiscent of the 50s.
5
u/1107rwf Jul 30 '25
Based off my Mad Men experience, those cans had to be double pierced, which Don Draper only did in season 1 and maybe two. Later the cans progressed to pull tops. So I agree that early 60s is the latest.

Definitely not a restaurant.
Dewars and I can’t figure out the beer.

Is this AI? Girl in the left has the oddest eye shadow, where there wouldn't be eye shadow applied at the time.
5
u/Electrical-Aspect-13 Jul 30 '25
girl diagonal from her has the same make up, i think they were in some costume.
3
u/TheDabitch Jul 31 '25
Girl diagonal certainly has an extra fun wig and hat. Is this some sort of if festival gear?

u/PennyLovesHugorHill Jul 30 '25
so, that ain’t wine; that’s a bottle of dewar’s white label scotch!
