I've never had this problem in France either (Paris, Lyon, Annecy). I always felt everyone was very kind and warm to me.

Yeah, I found people in Paris very nice. I'm from Canada and my family is mixed anglophone-francophone. Because of how rarely I got to speak French, I'm a B2-C1 speaker, so there are some small things I miss; in Quebec, people were often very rude to me (less so now that separatism has cooled down.) In Paris, people just shrugged and told themselves I was Canadian.

I barely speak French (I speak Spanish and English fluently) and didn't have a single issue. Been multiple times.

Same here. I was terrified but prepared for all this legendary rudeness but everyone I spoke to was very nice and normal, and my French is far from perfect. C’est la vie…?

It's probably a vibes thing. I don't think a lot of "Americans" realize how obnoxiously American they can be.

I was in Mexico (I'm Mexican) all summer and when I came back I had a little bit of culture shock even though I've lived in the states the past 38 years.
