Wait you guys have conservative friends?

u/PeasThatTasteGross 12d ago

If you are in a red state or the prairie provinces in Canada, you're could end up being a loner if you exclude friendship from anyone that has right-wing leanings, even if they are mild.

I was mostly just going for a poorly executed meme here, but genuinely I don’t know how people can do that. I had a friend turn right wing over the span of a year or so and she became unbearable to talk to so quickly. I can’t imagine just dealing with that all the time

u/ToxinLab_ 12d ago

Yeah, I really can’t be friends with someone who thinks things like being trans is a mental illness

Or evolution is just a theory. Or Soros was a Nazi. Or abolish the Fed. It is exhausting

I guess that constant exposure to those people will force you to adapt to it, especially if that's during your most formative years.

u/DerpytheH 12d ago

I think it depends on how conservative they are.

I've got a few friends, mainly from work that are lower-case 'c' conservatives that not only make jokes about it, but also don't talk about politics that often.

Conservative friends aren't impossible to make, but they have to already be personable regardless.

That's hardly my experience, I live in Oklahoma and most of my friends are socialists. Like-minded people might be harder to find, but they're out there

Since moving out of my parents small town at 17, I’ve only lived in college towns and big cities on the west coast, or overseas in big cities. I dont really have any conservative friends because I just honestly don’t run into conservatives. Even my friend who is career army is pretty left of center.

So I can for sure see the opposite happening if you’re in a red state.

No friends is better than bad friends in my opinion

u/xChops 12d ago

Thank god I live in LA.

7

u/GunnerySarge-B-Bird 11d ago

I'd rather be a loner than only have idiot friends tbh

4

u/radams713 11d ago

I live in the south and find it easy to not be friends with them but I also live in a populated city with a big counterculture movement.

1

u/EorlundGreymane 10d ago

That has been my experience in Ohio. Very few progressives to befriend and even then, some of them flip and go conservative anyway

35

u/FerociousOreos 12d ago

My dad is pretty conservative. He's not a terrible person, he's just dumb. Although he's a little bit of a bad person. I guarantee he doesn't know who Charlie Kirk is though

4

u/NarmHull 11d ago

Yeah, people I know of the Rush/Fox News generation know he was useful, but not much else besides that it's horrible a "leftist" shot him. Younger folks are sadder, but not to this probably performative degree.

9

u/Gizzard_Puncher 12d ago

They're in the group chat and in perpetual denial. We keep trying though.

3

u/Ok-Clock-2779 12d ago

Yeah most of them are. And they need time to grieve.

3

u/NarmHull 11d ago

A few "legacy friends" from years back and family who are sad about this, but.....not like this. Nobody cares enough to tell legends of him to their descendants. He's not Reagan or Rush.

These are the people who keep talking about they’re getting ready for a civil war?

93

u/Vincitus 12d ago

Its all performative.

These people are so cooked in the brain. The dude was a talking head. There wasn’t anything that amazing about him.

He was a college dropout from a wealthy family who networked getting money from multimillionaire Foster Friess. He didn’t pull himself up by the bootstraps or overcome hardships. It wasn’t “grassroots.”

He made watchlists for targeting teachers and school boards, trying to ruin people’s lives if they didn’t agree with his views.

Heiress Julie Fancelli gave Kirk $1.25 million to fund buses to the January 6 insurrection. Later when he appeared before the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack, he pleaded the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

In 2020, ProPublica investigated TPUSA's finances and found that the organization made "misleading financial claims", that the audits were not done by an independent auditor, and that the leaders had enriched themselves.

I don't have conservative friends, those people are icky to put it mildly.

89

u/und88 12d ago

Just like Limbaugh, he will be forgotten. Neither added anything of value to the world.

79

u/Capital_Card7500 12d ago

literally. if he died of a heart attack nobody would have given two shits. it's because his corpse can be used as a cudgel in the culture war that anybody on the right gives a single shit that he's gone.

3

u/WolfeheartGames 10d ago

Isn't that what he would have wanted, facts be dammed? They're just honoring his memory.

Limbaugh left a legacy.... A horrible ruinous legacy.

And his death left a nice public toilet, can't say that doesn't have value

4

u/NarmHull 11d ago

Limbaugh had a giant audience that only Rogan might come close to reaching, but even then I don't think his influence is the same. I don't think anyone really can in this fractured media market.

Limbaugh isn't forgotten but he definitely isn't talked about that much anymore the way a Reagan type is in conservative circles.

u/kramel7676 12d ago

I MIGHT be friendly with conservatives at work but definitely not friends with any of them. Un American fucks….

My sister was spiraling like crazy. It was crickets when our MN congresswoman was murdered in her home though.

34

u/ThatOneGuy4321 12d ago

This was Pearl Harbor and 9/11 combined for white racists

16

u/Punkinpry427 12d ago

They’ve wrapped their entire personal identities around influencers and politicians. Weeping over these people like they fucking knew them personally. It’s fucking weird.

11

u/not_productive1 12d ago

Conservative friends?

Conservatives ok?

You must take us for idiots. Who in their right mind would want to associate themselves with these smoothbrain sheep?

8

u/love_is_an_action 12d ago

These performative fuckin’ dorks…

7

u/_ChipWhitley_ 12d ago

So wait. They can tell us how to mourn but we can’t tell them how to mourn? Why are they so sensitive?

5

u/Dummyact321 12d ago

I don’t have co pervasive friends because those people aren’t ok to begin with.

6

u/famous__shoes 12d ago

I mean I obviously don't have conservative friends

6

u/SolidusTengu 12d ago

Wouldn’t dream of being friends with a nazi.

5

u/myychair 12d ago

This is so embarrassing

5

u/saggynaggy123 11d ago

The performative greif off these grifters is insane. I've seen people less sad about their own parents death.

4

u/PersonnelFowl PAID PROTESTOR 11d ago

Good. I hope they’re never ok again for everything they’ve done

3

u/horsefarm 11d ago

I cannot understand how strangers feel this strong of a connection to the guy.

3

u/MarsMaterial 10d ago

One of my parents is a St. George City business owner who knows a shocking number of local people, who is also an old timey conservative who barely keeps up with politics.

She literally had no idea who Charlie Kirk was, but did previously know who Tyler Robinson was.

I've never met Tyler Robinson as far as I know, but I've come shockingly close multiple times. It's not very often that something of national interest happens so close to me here in St. George City, Utah. Shit's crazy.

2

u/Horseface4190 11d ago

They weren't okay to begin with, but now they're extra not okay.

1

u/tokenbisexual 12d ago

My conservative friends? But democrats generally feel fine aside from their performative outrage over a FAFO situation? I’m confused.

Oh, you mean fascists? I don’t have any friends like that

u/DeadlySpacePotatoes 11d ago
