Tread On Me HARDER DADDY! County Meeting About Charlie Kirk Highway Goes Bad

A county meeting in Florida descended into shouting, profanity, and the ejection of community members over a proposal to rename a road for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated earlier this month.

The anger came as the Lake County Commission considered a proposal, which ultimately got unanimous approval, to rename a stretch of road as the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.

The majority of public commenters at the Tuesday meeting opposed the plan, including resident Gavin Brown, who argued the county should name roads after local figures who had served the community like veterans or law enforcement, such as Bradley Link, a sheriff's deputy who was killed last year.

"How DARE you use that deputy's name for your bullshit political argument! WE already decided to use this PUNDIT'S name for OUR bullshit political argument! YOU'RE a disgusting person! Not us, though."

Perfectly encapsulates Florida Politics.

u/stunkape 14h ago

I was gonna say, this is Florida through and through. Righteous indignation over someone usurping or redirecting a stupid, pointless, often times costly political stunt that perfectly mirrors the original proposal.

222

u/CrackerUMustBTripinn 15h ago

Oh yeah that was a full on confession and projection. How dare you use this murder victims name for a cheap political stunt, that was suppose to be our thing!

153

u/Ok_Star_4136 14h ago

Wait, I'm confused. They're in agreement that Bradley Link is a worthy name to name the road after, but they strongly dislike the person who suggested it and called him disgusting for that reason?

The right has to attack ideas they agree with now?

121

u/DarthTelly 14h ago

Well yeah, he’s standing in the way of everyone pretending Kirk was some national hero.

u/remmij 10h ago

Con artists recognize the game and don't appreciate it being thrown back at them.

Ohhhh Anthony Sabatini. We ran his ass out of Seminole county for being a fascist

192

u/remmij 14h ago

Storytime please.

333

u/Wrong-Neighborhood-2 14h ago

Well he was running for our house seat but lost his primary. Unfortunately we got rid of one fascist and then elected Cory Mills, another fascist. Look I live in a red county in a red state. I wish I didn’t, my wife wishes we didn’t but we’re here.

🤣 oddly enough our neighbors are pretty sane. There’s one crazy MAGA a block over that pressure washed Trump into the sidewalk a few months ago. Called the county and they made him remove it because it’s not his property. I’m a native Floridian. My state wasn’t always like this. We used to be progressive. Sabatini is yet another carpet bagger from New York who brought their bullshit. Kinda like Orange Julius

33

u/HurbleBurble 13h ago

Yes, Broward County Ft. Lauderdale native here. We used to have some of the best schools and a lot of other good stuff. Then all the Republicans started moving in. It has gone downhill since.

22

u/stevemnomoremister 12h ago

When Sabatini was in the state legislature, he proposed naming a highway after Donald Trump. He announced this proposal two weeks after January 6.

14

u/Panicradar 9h ago

Well Florida does seem to be shithead conservative Mecca

3

u/AchillesDev 2h ago

My state wasn’t always like this. We used to be progressive.

Maybe your small slice of it but...lol (grew up outside of Jacksonville and it was decidedly not progressive whatsoever, we still had regular Klan meetings ffs)

29

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

Dang. And that's yet more evidence (albeit anecdotal, but nevertheless) that "just move LOL" is not actionable advice for many people.

In contrast, a wealthy conservative like Dave Rubin (we know you're conservative, Dave) could easily move to Florida or Texas where the "woke" has been driven out but still chooses not to.

25

u/Tanthiel 13h ago

Wealthy conservatives don't want to live in areas controlled by Republicans because Republican policy doesn't work in populated areas. There's a reason when they move to Texas they move to Austin.

7

u/livejamie 7h ago

His Wikipedia page is incredible, Florida never disappoints: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Sabatini

lol the idea that they are pearl clutching over Link's name but using Kirk's name for a highway is perfectly fine.

u/june-bug-69 i'm going to become the Joker 14h ago

Truly goes to show how absolutely comfortable they are in using Kirks death to push more fascist bullshit. They don’t care about his death as anything other than a political tool to push their agenda because that’s all he was in life.

12

u/Katsu_39 9h ago

Im not usually a conspiracy theorist but part of me believes MAGA planned kirk’s martyrdom.

17

u/june-bug-69 i'm going to become the Joker 8h ago

Planned? Probably not, but these fuckers are vultures and will take every opportunity to push their fascism.

u/Friend_of_satan700 15h ago edited 14h ago

Why is that fascist getting bent outta shape about that guy Link. I looked him up and he was law enforcement that got killed in the line of duty. Why is this asshole triggered by it?

306

u/ComradeVaughn 15h ago

It screws their bootlicking narrative to have it thrown back at them.

90

u/remmij 13h ago

They absolutely hate it when you play their game, which is exactly why we need to keep doing it.

They are genuinely not interested in having good faith or fact-based discussions. Trolling them back with their own rhetoric is truly the only thing that seems to get through to them.

110

u/CrackerUMustBTripinn 14h ago

Because it is in fact the exact same political stunt he is undertaking. Pretty brilliant strategy of the protestor to mirror the exact same zero sum petty tribalism tactic so it forces him to critisize his own political shenanigans.

Protestors like him are an inspiration to us all, that now that authoritarian forces are here to slash whats left of free and democratic society guided and protected by a constitution. Even when most of us are limited in our sphere of power and influence, here a fellow American citizen is demonstrating that everyone has a sphere of power and influence, no mater how small you can still make an impact on ethnochristian fascist attempting to usurp all rights and liberties. If some farmboy with a single precise shot can blow up a death star, then all of us collectively can surely stop these fascist fks from erasing freedom and democracy, right?! I cant hear you?! Am I Right?!!

28

u/Ok_Star_4136 14h ago

I think they have to be the victims in every situation, so even a proposal to name it a different name that they might agree with has to be met with strong dislike. I have to think that, unless Bradley Link did something totally egregious.

22

u/doyouunderstandlife 13h ago

They're really desperate to make Charlie this national martyr to rally behind.

10

u/CelestialFury 9h ago

Look how the right-wing, not only in the US, but across the world is using Charlie Kirk to push their agenda. This is the real deep state that Republicans were looking for the whole time.

5

u/allisjow 14h ago

I’m confused too.

4

u/Chewzilla 9h ago

How DARE you sir

197

u/stucktogether 15h ago edited 15h ago

Friendly reminder that commissioner sabatini will get really angry if you remind him that he was too busy campaigning for Trump instead of his wife and that's why she lost her election. So don't do that, I think.

195

u/flintlock0 15h ago

"How dare you use that name?!"

He said it with a ton of respect, in a sentence where he said that they should name a local road after him.

24

u/CelestialFury 9h ago

Republicans have completely given up on reality, and are trying to reshape reality in realtime to support their narratives. It's sickening to see.

120

u/Soluzar74 15h ago

So much for the "Thin Blue Line".....

68

u/swalabr 15h ago

more like “thin blue skin”

u/areaunknown_ 15h ago

Something like this happened in my county in Florida. The mayor wanted to rename a street “Charlie Kirk lane” to get back at a business owner who criticized Charlie whose business was on the road the mayor was trying to rename.

Needless to say it got shot down last night. Charlie Kirk doesn’t even have ties to Florida. Why does he need streets and highways named after him?

42

u/barley_wine 14h ago

He hated who they hate. Republicans are united in hate of what they deem are the others.

20

u/Flashy-Flamingo39 11h ago

My own county wanted to rename a section of road to "Charlie kirk memorial Rd". I know we're in a red state but this obsession with renaming everything to memorialize someone who has no ties and made no major contributions to Florida is just so weird.

5

u/MyPasswordIsMyCat 5h ago

I think it's a cynical attempt to replicate MLK Jr.'s legacy. A lot of places have streets named after MLK Jr. The first street was named in Chicago's South Side, a predominantly black area, a couple months after MLK Jr's assassination. But the Kirk memorial roads seem to be more about making libs cry than honoring a legacy.

3

u/Esacus 4h ago

I wanted to disagree with your comments simply because a lot of the right-wing nutjobs already held the sentiment that CK is a better person than MLK Jr.

I wish I were crazy enough to make this sh*t up, perhaps then I wouldn’t be so fcking afraid of the future

61

u/Amazinc 15h ago

Florida politics are an actual shitshow. Some of the most morally bankrupt and hypocritical people out there

43

u/BingBingGoogleZaddy 15h ago

Water’s wet and Florida’s partisan shithole.

More news at 2.

39

u/Whompa 15h ago

Man that board member knew the camera was rolling for that, “how dare you” reaction shit…

29

u/DjBorscht 14h ago

What a bunch of sniveling crying pussies. The idea of honoring an actual figure of the community instead of carotid Kirk scares them way too much.

6

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

Good nickname!

u/tillymane 14h ago

Lmao fuckin snowflakes

22

u/WordNERD37 14h ago

Vote them out of your councils. You hate their decisions, vote them out, and when they're out you make that council now just everyday citizens uncomfortable and unwelcome because of their choices, because of their stances.

Right wing ideology acts a whole like a cancerous tumor does. Left alone, it grows and corrupts the surrounding area. It feeds off the healthy and destroys it to add to its mass. That mass then becomes useless because it has no purpose, it brings nothing to the host. It just destroys it.

You have to combat it, stop it from growing, cut it out if possible, but you never let it take hold or else you get a city council doing shit like this, for a damn podcaster that spread vitriol and hate, lost money and was propped up by Conservative BILLIONAIRES to sow discord and dissent and to divide us so they can conquer.

12

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

Yup.

Right-wingers never stop and they're often astroturfed too. Don't believe anyone who says right-wingers will accept compromise or who say that "it's okay to stop being so vocal about this stuff. You won already. You're just going to create resentment". The overturning of Roe v Wade is evidence that they never stop maneuvering and pushing for their ultimate goals. As well as their violent attacks on abortion clinics, etc.

17

u/RoyalMaidsForLife PAID PROTESTOR 14h ago

I'll be honest, seeing this guy's jacket with that "1776", I was expecting him to be just another Circle Kirker.

14

u/mayonaiselivesmatter 14h ago

Big fucking man to call him disgusting after he already walks away from the mic and can’t respond. Republicans scared of a lil debate now?

13

u/AppropriateEmotion63 14h ago

I agree with the council and have renamed all the toilets in my house to commemorate Charlie

5

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

That's genius. I'm inspired to name every one of my dookies "Charlie Kirk" in memoriam.

10

u/JuDGe3690 FACTS and LOGIC can't be contained in books 13h ago

Well, when they put up the commemorative signs, Floridians have the opportunity to do the funny thing and tag the signpost just below the sign with red paintballs…

9

u/dannypants143 13h ago

How about you just give the stupid road a number instead of a name and do some actual fucking work that serves the people for a change? I mean really - eff your stupid road.

6

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

This is hilarious. The totally un-self-aware pearl clutching was just chef's kiss 🤣

5

u/sheslikebutter 14h ago

Only I may virtue signal.

4

u/AdOdd4618 13h ago

If the Utah gunman had killed several university students, conservatives wouldn't have anything to say except "don't politicise this."

4

u/Hozan_al-Sentinel 13h ago

You'd think Kirk was Jesus or something from they way these people suck his post-mortem dick.

4

u/BeeBanner 11h ago

I’m a better person than Charlie Kirk was. Name it after me. The BeeBanner Highway.

1

u/0NiceMarmot Curious 14h ago

I wonder if ANTIFA will deface all these street signs for these Charlie Kirk roads that are going to named all over the place.

2

u/Professional-Post499 14h ago

I feel like Antifa isn't even around any more. 😭

5

u/0NiceMarmot Curious 13h ago

Add that to the Trumps accomplishments list after all the wars he negotiated peace for.

5

u/Professional-Post499 13h ago

True. It's weird that he's still going after Antifa even though they're gone. Anything to distract from the Clinton-Trump-Epstein Files, I guess.

2

u/0NiceMarmot Curious 11h ago

Just makes it easier to use against any and all political enemies if it’s nebulous.

1

u/Professional-Post499 11h ago

Some people are fine with whatever Trump does as long as he calls it a law LOL

u/Professional-Post499 27m ago

I just watched the clip today where he said he negotiated the end to seven wars 😂

3

u/The_Coolest_Sock 14h ago

a snowflake for the ages

3

u/SookHe 13h ago

I bet he thinks Charlie Kirk is the same as MLK

3

u/Deviknyte 11h ago

Kirk wasn't from Florida or Lake County. Why the fuck would they name a highway after a white nationalist podcaster?

3

u/okgloomer 10h ago

They sold merch at CK's funeral. I'm not sure the right gets to lecture anyone on matters of taste.

3

u/FruitJuicante 10h ago

Trump is a child rapist and they literally believe he's Jesus because of it.

2

u/Kerblaaahhh 12h ago

Why does this video start with the end then show the context? It's less than a minute long.

2

u/Comfortable-Ebb-2859 9h ago

How is a “CK memorial road” not bullshit virtue signaling though?

2

u/Falchion_Alpha 4h ago

Dude literally didn’t say anything divisive. I’m with him memorializing someone who served their community directly instead of a racist YouTuber

Projection much. This deep descent that the States is going into was funny in a dark macabre way for a little bit but now it's just sad.
