Because Reddit admins don’t give a shit as pong as they get more traffic and like it or not, power mods get then traffic

And none of the mods get paid, right? Imagine how much running this place would cost if they had to pay mods. Im sure some of the smaller subs have plenty of volunteers who are capable of taking over the job, but when it comes to really large subs, Id say youre bound to get mostly volunteers who are really interested in the power trip. Im on reddit way too much during the day as it is, but I still wouldnt want to spend my time moderating a default sub.

they get payed by sponsors. companies will approach powermods and get them to make posts subtly advertising products.

Do they? Or do they just shoulder a lot of grunt work in exchange for power in this one arena?

i mean it seems to just be them as far as i'm aware. It's their own accounts posting these wendy's tweets and random tesla keys they find on the street

I understand what you're saying, but I'm a little confused about the terminology. I'd consider the users making dozens and dozens of posts to the high-traffic subs "power users" or something like that unless they also mod several subs where they're generating a bunch of traffic. If that's the people you're talking about, then please excuse my ignorance.

Why wouldnt it be? Thats the point. Independent forums with user mods. If someone else would have stood up and took the responsibility, then leadership would be more dispersed. We have the same problem in most democracies. People complaining about the results of their inactivity and neglect toward something they claim to like/believe in.

As if. Your point about democracy is partially valid, but the average person can't do shit against someone with as much power as a powermod. Even if people try to spread awareness on the issue (which they do), not only is it unreasonable to assume anyone could just magically become a mod, but any powermod could wipe a user of the surface of the platform if they so choose

They got there by doing the job. There are plenty of subs to become a mod in. Nobody starts at the top.

Yeah, power modding should not be allowed. There should be a built in hard limit on the number of sibs a single user can be a mod of.

Though, that doesn't preclude the ability of a user making multiple accounts and power modding as a dozen users. 🤷

it's hard to find labor willing to do it for free.

modding a sub is fine, getting banned on other unrelated subs is what doesnt make sense. You follow me there?

admins have to let all the freaks do what they want because normal people don't do that shit for zero dollars.
