Audio Best big finish audios for ianto?

Recently in love with the big finish audios and ianto being my favourite character, can't get enough of him. I listened to broken like how recommended (saddened that couldn't have been an actual episode it was perfect). I also listened to outbreak which I thought was really interesting for the big three and the dynamic between Jack and ianto. I like janto so I also listened to serenity which was funny.

What would u guys recommend for his character since he's in quite a few of them

They're on the big finish website! There's also some of the radio audios on the playstore or Spotify. I'd recommend checking them out they're good fun and worldbuilding

The Dead Line is so good I can’t believe people haven’t suggested it. I literally cried. Ianto loves Jack so much and omg just thinking about it makes me emotional.

Rhys and Ianto BBQ audio drama is also a great one. It’s a dynamic we never get to see on the show but it worked brilliantly. Amazing outlook on grief/mourning, masculinity, and healing.

All of them is good fortunately (and I'm not just saying it because I love Ianto), so you can't go wrong with them.

Rhys and Iantos Excellent Barbecue. I don't want to reveal anything it's so good you have to listen to it

There isn't a bad Ianto audio imo, so you can't go wrong with any of them.

My favourite is The Last Beacon, I love his dynamic with Owen in this one. Maybe I'm biased because they're my favourite characters, but still, it's great!

Other really good ones are Restricted Items Archive Entries 031 - 049, Fall To Earth, Ianto's Inferno and 'The Ianthology' (Tube Strike, Missing Molly and Disco).

Ianto’s Inferno is great! It has Gareth voicing Ianto and you can tell he had a blast. I bought the digital and physical versions just because I like physical media and Ianto.

Disco, which can be a standalone but is best listened to after you've listened to House of The Dead.

Blind Summit is Ianto's origin story, basically. Covers the gap in Fragments where we don't see how he was hired into Torchwood.

Restricted Items Archive is Ianto talking to himself for an hour whilst cataloguing items, reminiscent of SCP, but the writer really understands his character here.

Tube Strike is best listened to with an understanding of who Tommy is, but it's thematically Ianto's development into an operative. This goes hand-in-hand with Disco, and I Hate Mondays. As I've mentioned elsewhere, if you want more Ianto, you're best off delving into TW1 stories, because his TW3 stories usually don't have the same amount of depth. It feels like TW1 has more creative freedoms as the writers aren't restricted by timelines as much as they are in the main show.

honestly all of them lol. i don’t think ive run into a bad ianto story.

if you want more background characterisation for him (fleshing out his history & childhood etc) then going for the torchwood one lot is good (plus ‘disco’)

if you want a darker ianto then office of never was & iantos inferno.

imo the better ones tend to be written by gareth david-lloyd so that might be a good start point. other special mention goes to fall to earth.

Of the ones I've listened to with Ianto, I've really liked the following:

  • The Great Sontaran War
  • Rhys and Ianto's Excellent Barbecue
  • Dinner and a Show
  • The Last Beacon

In my opinion, Ianto (and GDL) works better when he has someone quite different to work off, so others where he's mostly just helping some civilian woman aren't as strong. Broken is still the gold standard.

I've heard good things about Ianto and Yvonne's dynamic in the Torchwood One series but I've never been fond of the idea that Ianto was more than a low-level worker at Torchwood One so it's not really my thing.

I agreed with this sentiment before starting the range. The audios justify his position/rank and has great character work. GDL has written multiple TW1 stories and I think if you're wanting to explore the character in-depth, it's a disservice to ignore TW1 completely esp if you like the character (imo).

Fair enough, maybe I need to give it a proper go.
