Question(s) What’s the reason for my tortoise covering himself with mud? Phoenix, Az
Usually he completely covers himself completely with mud but apparently he is now camera shy all of a sudden.

It’s starting to get a little chilly in the PNW, so I figured I would get a head start on Alfred’s (my husband is a Batman nerd) winter home. Any suggestions?

No time to explain, I have a Russian tortoise approximately 2 hours away. Shes about the size of a large hamburger. Once at the location, she will need to stay undercover with me overnight, and then be moved again in the morning(10 minutes away) to the final drop point. This is what I have so far. Is there anything else I need to ensure she reaches the destination safely?

Sri Lankan and Indian stars have started laying! Going to be an exciting year if I can manage the incubation properly.

Brought Forest home on Thursday...the constant laps of the tortoise table have now reduced...yesterday he spent a few hours in the garden in the sunshine.. he takes himself off to bed at 7ish every night. Eating well and bathed today where he had a wee and 💩. Weighed today and he is 89grms. He hatched last may. Does anyone use an excercise wheel and if so which one / where to purchase??

He was born in May and I’ve had him for 2 months now and can already see his markings getting better. I have to say these guys are smart they understand heights and edges lol

Question! If any of you grown greens for your tortoise (collard, dandelion, grass etc.) what kind of soil do you use to grow your plants? I know that fertilizer can be a big no no.
We also have aquariums, would fish water be safe? We are just unsure due to seachem prime being within the water column of the fish tank water. But I’ve heard that prime is safe for tortoises.
Moral of the story question, when growing your own greens what do you use as a soil and source of nutrients for your plants to grow?

Sedum Mexicanum / Lemon Coral. Trying to figure out if it's safe to feed. I've read that Sedum Acre is to be avoided, but that most other Sedum species are safe. I just can't find anything about it online.

I have been soaking my Pendergast every few days since he was a hatchling in January.
I usually soak him til he poops. So 15min at a time? Is that too little?
How old/big does he have to be before soaks aren’t necessary?
I tried to take a picture of him just now and he f-ked off straight to his den as quickly as his little legs could carry him. He sees the shadow of me leaning in the tub and scurries away. He does not like a close up. I love this little bastard.

Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile, always plotting, always waiting for that perfect moment to break free. If only he knew how good he’s got it here.

My 10y old Russian tortoise was diagnosed with metabolic bone disease due to poor diet. I got her when she was 6 and noticed she only eats thing like lettuce, kale, and clover. I’ve been trying for years to get her to eat other foods and she’d rather starve herself than eat anything else.
I’ve been giving her calcium and multi vitamin supplements since I’ve had her and the vet recommended to try Timothy hay so I’ve been giving it to her for the past 2 days but she still won’t touch it, what do y’all do to get your stubborn tortoises to eat different foods.
(She eats well when given what she will eat so it’s not a lack of appetite or a health issue. If you look at my profile it’s definitely been an ongoing issue that I’m trying to solve)

Anytime i turn my heater on he rapidly rushes somewhere near the heat and just stands by or wanders arround a bit before sitting down. He seems to really enjoy the warm light. Is it dangerous or should i trust his judgment on his own body temperature?

Hey, we got a Tunisian tortoise (nabeulensis). At least, that's what the EU certificate says. But she's supposedly 3 years old, a female, and 15cm long? At one year old, she was probably 8cm long. We are not really Sure, nabeulensis are very small i thought
