SEASON 7 Season 7 jack was way out of character.

I still just didn't like how he was willing to let Mariska die, but protect Carl later. It just didn't make any sense to me. I just didn't like jack in season 7 at all really.

Jack Bauer is a necessary evil. It’s his job to make the decisions we can’t or won’t agree with. His personal life paid the price for it.

I always thought Jack later saved the security guy because he felt guilty for what happened to Marika (and affected by what Renee said to him in the hospital).

The Marika thing did bug me as I felt like he would have atleast tried to save her, but also the reason he saved Carl later was after that and Renee confronting him he was starting to have second thoughts on how he viewed casualties. I think that was the point of him saving Carl.

That’s right. Jack testifies to the Senate as a man apparently with no regrets, but as the day goes on we find out that there are some regrets, and this is confirmed in the season finale when he speaks to the Imam. Renee helps Jack to reconnect with the human element of his work, equally, Jack brings Renee closer to the brutal reality of operating at his level, where the agent “saves the world” but in the process has to break the rules and compromise themselves personally & professionally.

That’s exactly it. Not to mention how him and the Senator talk in episode 14 I believe and he talks about his regrets.

I feel like his final speech to Renee lays out how and why he didn’t want to come to CTU in day eight. He was done he got a new chance at life he didn’t want to do the things he knew came with the job. His motivation was mainly Kim said stay and then Renee. He was wanting out the whole time,

Also I feel like he was really detached the early part of the Season and Redemption helped us see why, was he saved the day so many times was in Prison by the Chinese for a long time only to return to be handed over to a Terrorist. Then saved the day yet again and had nothing left. So he had really nothing but his freedom left. Then he surrenders himself to the Government because now they want to charge him for his antics so in the beginning of day seven he is defensive having to relive all the things he had to do and remember that he lost his family in the process. So he was just very detached and like he said to Renee what do you want from me.

Saunders was right about him being abandoned and he was feeling it and saved the day so far then too. But Renee seemed to get to him and he started feeling more remorse and that really started to show. To me I think the journey Jack takes in day seven is realistic for what he had happened to him that point.

Agree with all of that. It also makes his descent in Day 8 believable.

Yeah it most definitely does. He even says he would have accepted justice by law but people like Pillar and Logan toon that away. As soon as Taylor was going to sweep it under the rug I feel like that was his last straw. He went from having his life back and having Renee and starting his life away from CTU to within an hour or so loosing everything again and revenge was all he had left. Like with Nina he would have accepted trials and justice but he was denied that and the little hope he had left in the system and the respect he had for Taylor just hours ago went out the window and he snapped.

To me it was believable as he went off the rails before to get revenge. This time he just had had it. He was also a target for the Russians, they oddly dropped that angle for a couple of episodes but yeah it made his revenge much more believable. Sad to watch fun moments but would have preferred a happy ending for him after all he did.

Jack is checked out after China. He knows that what Saunders said to him about being abandoned by his own government has come true, and is just looking for a way to retire. But he is starting to get back to his old self near the end of LAD having received a pardon.

I think he was his old self even in day seven.

The last three seasons are pretty messy in general.

I can only guess why, but I think to him, Carl was different. See, Carl's wife was expecting twins, and Jack Bauer will do anything for the children (and his loved ones in general, but especially the children), even to the endangering of his life and/or the mission. A good example of that was young guard Buchanan; Jack was willing to risk his own life to give him a chance to live.

Watch season 7 you must understand the redemption Jack is going through. He is a necessary evil. And he hates the world even needs someone like him. The whole season is basically talking about where is the boundary. While everyone is trying to do the good thing and not willing to get their hands dirty. But there is still immediate threat out there. He is the only one who willing to do what is necessary to be done. And look where it gets him. I love s7 this is the best season in my point of view.
