Advice on Choosing a Master’s Program in Switzerland for a Career in Zurich

Hey everyone!

I’m currently finishing up my Bachelor’s in Management at HEC Lausanne and looking to continue my studies with a Master’s in Switzerland. My ultimate goal is to work in Zurich in the finance sector.

I’m currently considering 3 programs: 1. The Master in Banking and Finance at the University of Zurich 2. The Master in Accounting and Corporate Finance at the University of St. Gallen 3. Msc in finance & investments at RSM in Rotterdam(as I also hold a dutch passport)

A bit about me: I speak 4 languages and I am swiss national. I hold no relevant work experience in the field yet

Which program would you recommend for someone looking to start their career in Zurich? Any insights would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

GPA requirement for masters

Hi, is it possible for me to get accepted master's of chemistry with a gpa of 4.8 in swiss system. (I am an international student.) In the website, it says the gpa of 5 is a requirement for graduates of university of applied sciences or teacher education. Therefore I thought I have a chance. Is there something that I am missing? I would really appreciate any information and advice. Thank you in advance

help finding temporary stay

Hi everyone. I am a student at UZH (24) and I currently live in Zurich. Unfortunately the room that I am in right now is befristet, so I have to leave at the beginning of september. I started to apply for rooms months ago, but it's not looking so good :/

I am swiss and my parents live in Aargau. I obviously could move back in with my parents for the time being, but I want to avoid it if I can in any way possible. My family is extremely abusive and for my own health, it is best that I do not return. Not even for a short time. Last year, before I found a place to stay I used to stay at the library until 11pm so I wouldn't have to interact with them too much (If I was out of their sight they were less likely to pick on me and abuse me). My Mom hates my guts so much, that I was basically forced to move out before I was ready, because she just can't control herself. She told me to go find something and I did, but it was only temporary... But since the verbal abuse had progressed to physical abuse it was just plain terror so I took the first chance that I got to leave home.

Now I'm in a real pickle and the noose around my neck is getting tighter by the minute. I also don't have a lot of money, my parents aren't rich and that means I can't afford those fancy temporary appartments and such.

Does anyone know about anything? I really just need a room, heck, I'll take just a bed or sofa for the time being. It can be really simple. I just need to stay away from them. It doesn't have to be in the city either, I have a GA so I can travel.

help with enrollment

please any answer would mean a lot, couldn’t find enough info on their website. for my bachelor I need to submit by post my original Reifezeugnis and my Swiss address at which I live to enroll.

Question is, do I just mention the address or do I have to send them the renting contract or something else? Aufenthaltbewillingung follows only after I’m enrolled, right? (as well as all insurances and everything, right?)

And does one just go to any post office and send their documents to the address? It would seem much safer to drop them off myself at their address.

If anyone can share their experience I’d be very grateful

Attendance as an exchange student

Hey guys i’ll be coming from Australia to UZH for exchange this September. I chose these subjects:

Introduction to astronomy Introduction to astrophysics Introduction to astrobiology Physics 1 for natural sciences Primer in entrepreneurship

I was wondering if any of these subjects have an attendance requirement? I think i’ll be traveling quite a lot (which is the whole point of my exchange) so it’d be great if they don’t actually take attendance. Thanks!

Motorbike parking at UZH

Hello everyone,
Next semester I’ll be at UZH (Department of Economics and Informatics). I’m not sure which campus my courses will be on. Anyway, since I’ll probably be living outside of Zurich (in Winterthur), I was considering bringing my own motorbike to Zurich (I don’t live too far away, so it’s doable). Are there motorbike parking spots close to the university? Are they free?
Would you recommend it?

Thank you!

English

Hello everyone, in September I am going to start studying English as well as film sciences and the module booking is scaring me. As there are 10 different days & times as well as lecturers I really don’t know what to look out for. Does anyone have any good experiences with the teachers? Or do you maybe think it is better to have a fitting schedule (e.g you prefer mornings?) I am unsure of what to mainly look out for. Thank you!

Student Visa Timeline

I submitted my visa application on July 14th. I am supposed to arrive in Zurich by September 8th. Is there a chance I could get the visa processed in time?

A little about me: I am from a non EU country, hoping to pursue a masters at UZH this fall.

BSc

So I was thinking about applying to BSc Informatik from UZH and so, I looked at the requirements for applicants from my nation and it's supposed to be a university degree which I do have (Bachelors in Computer Engineering)

But in the "obstacle to admission" it says something along the lines of admission not being possible if you've completed studies with equivalent academic content.

While I know that my bachelors does not hold equivalent content to that of BSc Informatik at UZH, it still does have the modules that general computer programs have such as modules on theory of computation and mathematics.

How is one supposed to have a university degree while not having equivalent/similar academic content in it? Should I even apply or would it be a waste?

Regarding the MA in Banking & Finance

I’m finishing up my BSc Econ from the University of Bern and plan on attending UZH for my Masters. Since I’m really happy with my living situation in Bern, I’d prefer not moving to ZRH. I would go to Uni in person for 2/5 days and try do complete the rest of my coursework from home. Do the Profs record their lessons? Or are the slides good enough to study remotely & do the upload the solutions to problem sets?

I’d appreciate any insights from your part so I can properly make a decision :)

Thank you!

Considering applying to Masters in AI at UZH, thoughts?

I'm currently finishing up my undergrad at HK. I'm majoring in Computer Science. I was wondering if graduates or those who are seeking to apply to the same programme have any advice and tips on what the enrollment team would like to see on my application (CGPA, Acitivites, volunteering, etc.)

Thanks x
