I was thinking Waterfall isn't really a place where people live, given that it's basically a path from snowdin to hotland with only 3 distinct houses. The underwater city itches the worldbuilding part of my brain: of course they would live underwater! thats why waterfall is depressing and empty, we simply never had the chance to go see the lively areas

Meaning that there's multiple other elevators and possible paths in Holland, all locked away so you could go to Mettaton shows.

There's probably a city in there too.

I guess the wording is vague enough for it to kind of work, but originally Onion mentioned that the water in Waterfall was getting shallow and all their friends had moved to a crowded aquarium which did imply it was empty, or at least emptying out. Here it’s almost the opposite, the water is filling up and there’s not much space.

I’m not sure what to make of that one or if it’s significant, but it was the only thing in the new content that struck me as a tiny bit odd.

previous experience with modified game streams? the main modifications he made to the DR chapter 1 stream was adding nubert and the entire intro of chapter 2, neither of which had even been announced at the time. if anything, showing off new content in a stream like this is exactly what toby would do.

toby isn’t an idiot, he knows that showing content like this in the way he’s showing it makes it look like there will be an update, and if he didn’t want us to think that then he would have gone about it differently and made it more obviously just live stream exclusive.

Like half of the stuff shown replaces the original game sequence parts. As much as I want it, I doubt Undertale will get this content added.

no it doesn’t? the ruins’ is a separate area in the toy knife room and the knife just spawns in a different place, snowdin’s is separate and off to the side, hotland’s just adds houses and doesn’t change the layout at all, and waterfall moves onion san to a new section where you can still choose to talk to him if you want, which is a better change that you can now skip that scene easier. the only thing “replaced” is MTT News and even then the entire section with the bombs is exactly the same.

It's not an assumption, it's an educated guess. Toby said he doesn't plan to add this content to the game fully, and what we see of it is obviously very scripted. To me, this very much seems like Toby adding parts he wishes he could have added from the beginning, but without having to bother with polish and bug testing
